risse seemed very sluggish and so is pennant. Both wings were shitty. Apart from that all looked good to me. Hopefully we become more clinical in future

Not sure of the better footballer remark (could be true)....but rio is one of the best headers of the ball in the premiership (among centre backs) along with vidic and terry.....I think thats why he keeps getting picked even though he makes costly mistakes in quite a few games.

Really hope agger improves his heading though (if he wants to be our 1st choice CB).....

tbh i dont rate fanciful defenders. Ferdinand has better control but   he's definitely not a better defender. Carager always is

the fact we got 3 points to start with means a great deal but the performance will need to be better. but a good thing i got from the game is that last season and others before that game would have finished 1-1. the winner from gerrard (perfect free kick by the way) is something we wouldnt expect in an away league game usually so hopefully we will see more of that
The devil on the badge represents the equality of manchester united with satan and his many demoish minions downstairs. just like the many twisted devil worshipers accross the world it means you have to posess the same sick minded mentality to follow that pathetic excuse for a football team.

Well, a happy face is what I'm wearing right now, but I still have a couple of concerns.
Torres spent too much time on the right wing for my liking. Kuyt couldn't hit a cow's ar se with a fukkin banjo. Yet again we relied on Stevie to get us the three points and that's what will cost us if our current crop of strikers continue to hit everything except the onion bag.
Someone needs to be havin a word with Mr Pennant about his arsy attitude too or we'll be finishing games with ten men, and you can bet it'll be when we can least afford to.
Other than that, we looked reasonably comfortable out there and we just need a couple of shock results on Sunday to make the weekend as sweet as Kendal mint cake.  :D

I would have liked to see us dominate the flow of the game more.  The game seemed to evenly matched, and it almost seemed like we were complacent with being 1-0 up.  Their left flank was vulernable and I wished we could have exposed and capitalized on it more often.  Maybe we should have tried Babel out left, although I understand about taking Pennant off for having a hissy-fit. I can't see him playing in France and possibly not Chelsea either.  Look for Yossi to do well in his debut, Babel to start on the left, Crouch and Torres up front, and riise dropping to LB, and I certainly wouldn't rule out Mascherano replacing Xabi in one of the next 2 games even though I think he played well.

Sorry my post is late i only just got up after that gerrard goal went in it knocked me out  :eyebrow

You know they say it every year a team that can win when they dont perform well.

That team is made of strong stuff and can go all the way.

Come on the pool one game at a time is one step closer to the prem we have faith in you.

MoM for me was  close call but ui give to kyut he worked his socks off today was very good i dunno why people slag him off he always shows he was amde for liverpool football club , goals will come in time he got 7 years left of playing time.

Remeber the time a striker hits his peak is normaly between 26-32 so give him a chance and he has played all his football before this in a lower league to us so take him a while to raise his game.

Great result from a decent and, late on, gritty performance.  Gerrard was immense--what a free kick--and clearly revelled in his return to CM.  He could have had a hattrick today.  Torres showed flashes of promise and Kuyt's industry--his calling card--produced our first goal out of nothing.  I also liked the look of Babel when he came on--pacey, willing to take defenders on and with an eye for goal.

Some have expressed concern over Carra and Agger's aerial ability but Destro's got it right: most centrebacks in the league will struggle with Carew's height.  We dealt with the knock downs and flick ons well, which is what mattered.  The only real danger they caused were moments when Barry or Bouma crossed the ball in from the left--they cannot be given that much space to put in their crosses or a lad like Carew can punish you.

I've already raved about it but another mention needs to go to Gerrard's free kick.  Make no mistake, he threaded a needle with that curler: getting it up over Carew and down, into the very top corner (otherwise the keeper stops it)...outstanding.  That's the kind of moment of brilliance that can be so crucial to building our momentum this season: we turned a draw into a win (never our strong suit and especially not on opening day) and Gerrard's off the mark.  That's the kind of platform we can build on! :nod

Risse went to take it, and I shouted at the screen for him to :censored: off! I said, "watch this sh*t! Here it comes. Goal of the season already!". And there it was. I didn't celebrate. We shouldn't have been in that possition for a wonder goal to bail us out...again.

:bowdown Congrats to heimdall & red37 for their predictions, 2-1 to Liverpool (see pg9).

So it's just a little over 5% of us here predicted it correct.
