If i were benitez i'd put hyppia on drogba in our next PL match... only to show agger that "hey kid you need to work  on your aerial battles"...

Hyppia also struggles against drogba. The thing is 99.9% of defenders will struggle against drogba. He is just a freak of nature. The only way to counter drogba is the cut the supply to him and make him isolated. Thus i expect rafa to play mascherano in midfield with MR MBE.

BTW, we should have really gone for sylvin distin in the summer. He would have made a good backup.

Then the Mancs drop a couple at home against Reading. Couldn't realistically have asked for more from the opening weekend.

More goals for the pressure will hopefully come, but great stuff so far.

Sorry but not for me. As I remember for the goal which was debated at some length in the immediate aftermath of the game, Riise went missing leaving the whole left side channel open. The ball got played in there and Drogba half muscled and half skilled Agger out of it before playing Cole, who had been criminally allowed to drift in behind by Arbeloa. Other than that, in a Liverpool team who were significantly second best on the night, Agger was by no means the worst performer.

Those clamouring for the reintroduction of Hyppia against Drogba would do well to remember the 4-1 defeat at Anfield of a couple of years back. Now that day, one of our defenders did get destroyed and it wasn't Agger.

The big fella would be just about the best centre-forward of his type in World football at the moment and as somebody said earlier, he will cause everybody problems if they get the ball to him in the right areas.

I would actually be more concerned about our right side. As somebody alluded to earlier, Finnan got skinned a couple of times yesterday bb Ashley Young. It wouldn't exactly be a Sixth Sense style twist in the plot, were Steve Finnan not to look quite so reliable when he has Jermaine Pennant playing in front of him rather than Steven Gerrard.

Did he ? I must have missed all the HEADED chances that Drogba had in that game, did he force a save,hit the woodwork have a header cleared of the line ?

He may have out classed him for the set up for Cole but what does that have to do with Aggers arial ability or Carras ?

i thought finnan looked a yard off the pace myself, but i dont recall seeing that much of him in the pre season games so hopefully he`s just a bit undercooked in terms of match fitness rather than lacking form.
the way malouda has started he will have to be on his toes next week.

both carra and agger are not very good in the air but carra can make up for it with his experience...

I like agger alot... only if he can improve on his aerial defensive strength he'd be perfect... one thing he can improve on is his positioning against long balls and not let the opposition forward bully him physically... this is where hyppia is good at even against forwards taller than him...

I'd prefer to remember the champions league semi-final 2nd leg when Carra had Drogba in his pocket for the 120 minutes. That was as good a centre-half performance as i've ever seen. It's true the back 4 had a few problems with Drogba in that first game but Ragfa clearly had a game-plan for it come the 2nd leg and it worked a treat. Last time out Carra contested the majority of headers with Drogba, Agger dropped off to clean up 2nd balls and Riise tucked in to offer support. It worked a treat. I'm not the slightest bit worried about Agger. I still have a lot of confidence in Hyppia but also remember the torrid time he had against Drogba a couple of years back so let's not pretend it's a fail-safe solution.

what a good weekend liverpool showed real determination in this game and i have a really good feeling about this season,I watched the mancs today and i thought the mancs were gonna steel it, playing john oshea up front whats that all about hopefully thier buys turn into flops they haven't really got a out and out striker.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             just a quick word for wayne rooney.Hope your out for ages you horrible little tw,t:laugh:

Getting behind the team permanently is something i feel neccesary, and is also something that Villa do only away from home really. Also, on the 1935 from Aston back to New Street, there was some great banter coming from Liverpool fans, and I'm very dissapointed with the Villa fan's origingal reaction. Your song that goes on about 'campiones'? Is there a link to a video or any words I can find on the internet? Because I felt that was a very well thought out song, as they always are coming from a superb, and very special group of fans. On a final note. How good was Gerrard's Free Kick!?

why is everyone banging on about always relying on Gerrard to win games? he's part of the team, so it's part of his job. i don't care if he rescues us in every game this season, the main thing is we keep winning.

i agree he is our talisman thats what he does

do man utd fans complain when ronaldo wins game after game for them

or drogba does the same for chelsea

it is a team game true but there are always going to be match winners and 1 outstanding player

we should be greatful that we have gerrard and not worry about what we would do without him
