Not sure of the better footballer remark (could be true)....but rio is one of the best headers of the ball in the premiership (among centre backs) along with vidic and terry.....I think thats why he keeps getting picked even though he makes costly mistakes in quite a few games.

Really hope agger improves his heading though (if he wants to be our 1st choice CB).....

the most thing im overjoyed about is Torres needed no time to settle into the premiership

hes strong enough, fast enough, aware enough and tricky

just hope he gets his finishing sorted

Its simple, Terry and Jamie are the same type of player, Rio is a different type of centre back.

He is going with Rio so its a toss up between the other 2 and Mc Clown wants Terry

Simple as.

BTW, did anyone see Martin o'neil rolling up his sleeves and gesturing a lot near the end of the match ? I mean who does he think he is ? Robert de-niro ?  :D

That will come...He is getting into scoring positions.

Im impressed with him so far, at one point in the game i'd have expected him to curl up and hide after one or two of the tasty tackles meted out. He didn't and that is a good sign. He also looked 'up for it' in terms of desire and tenacity.

He will settle in and start adding more to the team a lot quicker than some would have imagined. (Torres).

Liverpool Magic

Once Aston Villa were given the penalty it fired me up. Despite Barry's tendency to score on PK I was believing and hoping for a miracle. Then he scored and I held my scarf up and started singing - Liverpool, Liverpool, Liverpool.

Once the ball was in the back of the net I went completely crazy. Gerrard had saved the day with an amazing goal.

That second that ball went in I knew I would be a Liverpool fan forever.

Cheers guys and congratulations on a beautiful Liverpool day!!

Excellent result. Gerrard is our best player but Torres had a good debut - Kuyt played well too.

By better footballer i mean his distribution of the ball is a lot better he is a lot more comfortable on the ball and his ability to take the ball out of deffence (mainly due to his experience of playing midfield) is a lot better. Even if his memory is a bit suspect :p

But i would take Carra over him every single time

Another opening day fixture ends with a win for Liverpool ( I wish for once we could draw ) and more importantly, more headline news for our local lad and No. 1 hero, Stevie Me.

He played fantastically, as is the norm for Mr MBE on the opening day and I hope he has the conviction to carry it on at least until next weekend when we get to turn over the walking wounded of the KBG. Then he can go for his annual soul searching crusade, happy in the knowledge that we've got 6 points in the bag and he won't have to spit his dummy out for being asked to play on the right.

Mr Dirk Diggler Kuyt,  the ex - pornstar famed for such roles as "The Shagging Donkey" and "Only a workhorse" worked wonderfully hard all game and actually contributed to the game. He was here, there and everywhere and actually showed that with the right front man and possibly a full season behind him he can actually play the game of football and he is not briefed to "chase the ball Dirk, chase it like a dog".

Torres actually looked a lot better than I imagined, I am sure he's had a facial as those unsightly spots seem to have vanished the moment he put on a Liverpool shirt, either that or Athelitico Madrid have pulled a fast one.

Riise once again informed the masses that to play him at LB would be sucidial and he knows he is definetly on borrowed time with the impending arrival of the whinging Argie.

Pennant proved once again how hated he is around the country. Awww bless.

3 points in the bag - thats all that matters.

Good night and god bless..
