ASTON VILLA VS LIVERPOOL - The countdown begins

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Superb "take" Rafa and very well written .................

I'lll settle for ANYTHING better than the 0-0 last season at the Villa, quite possibly the worst Prem game I've ever seen and I've seen a  few ! ???

No wait, I was at Burnley in 2005 when we actually played better in the postponed fixture the week before ! :D

well folks i'll be there at the sh!thole that is Villa Park. Hopefully my prediction of a 2-0 win will be wrong and we'll stuff them 5-0 but if not then my prediction will do just fine. I have Stevie G down as scoring the 1st, with a pen and Danny Agger scoring a screamer from 40 yards. Come on the Reds.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

just coming from work; and i think we are going to win 4-1 with a brace from Kuyt and one from Torres and the other from Stevie G. I think Youssi will have an immense contribution, he is a football prof:D

Rafa-Dodd wrote:The ten week wait is over, Liverpool kick off their doomed-to-failure-by-the-end-of-August title assault at Villa park tomorrow live on Sentanta. In a break from the norm the noise coming from the majority of Liverpool fans is that we won’t win the title this season. Bollocks. They’re all just pretending so they won’t look stupid at the end of the season when we’re battling it out with Spurs for the final champions league spot, the deluded fools. We couldn’t even beat Portsmouth.

We take on the villains of Aston in our opening game in what many fans consider a ‘must win’ tie if we are to take home that much coveted 19 title. Make no mistake, this is a must win game. If we lose, we don’t get any points which will leave us in the precarious position of being level on points with bitter rivals Manchester united with united having a game in hand. That leaves us a paltry 37 games to make up such a massive deficit. Forgive me for not being too optimistic.

Benitez has a wealth of attacking options at his disposal and is liable to go all out to win this most crucial of encounters. Newly crowned Golden glove award winner and loveable slaphead, Pepe Reina will continue between the sticks leaving the Madonna toothed Scott Carson wondering what his future may hold. A trip to the dentist if he has any sense. Steve Finnan will deployed at right back to handle the threat of old timer and former Liverpool pin up, Paddy Berger. Given Finnan’s history with pensioners Berger should probably turn up in a Sherman tank or he could be leaving in a body bag. Local thief Jamie Carragher will partner Daniel Agger in defence as it looks increasingly likely that stalwart Sami Hyypia’s career could be Finnished. Fuck knows who’ll start at left back I’m just praying John Arne Riise, the ginger freak, is at Craig Bellamy’s watching the USPGA.

The midfield is anyone’s guess. Jermaine Pennant, who finished last season very strongly is likely to join his partner in driving crime down the right. Mr Liverpool Steven Gerrard fresh from receiving his liverpoolfc.tv award for player of the season 07/08 will be partnered by one of Xabi Alonso, Javier Mascherano or Mohamed Sissoko. Harry ‘last chance saloon’ Kewell is just one of 3 options available down the left. He’s fighting it out with new boys, Yossi Benayoun and Dutch Starlet Ryan Babel. Kewell is likely to get the nod but expect him to hobble off after tipping the ball off. He will however miraculously return if we reach any major final.

The most intriguing question of all will be who starts up front. Peter’ What in the name of Christ do I have to do to get a game’ Crouch will be erm…crouched in the dugout for the entire game. Dirk Kuyt is sure to start and will likely be partnered by record signing Fernando Torres because Andriy Voronin is fucking shite.

Regardless of who starts the game it will unfold in exactly the same way. We will dominate for long spells and pepper the Villa goal without ever looking threatening. Pennant will skin his man 14 times in a row and yet not get one decent cross into the box. Gerrard will run around like the headless cunt he is without ever doing anything useful. Same goes Kuyt. Torres will be busy making sure his hair looks ok throughout the game. Kewell will watch the game from Birmingham general hospital. Riise will shoot as soon as he’s within 80 yards of goal. And so and so forth for 90 minutes. The only plus point will be that we’ll leave the ground knowing there is at least one team in the league more boring than us. Villa.

Luckily for me I’ll have been in the pub from 1pm so I’ll be too pissed to give a flying fuck.

F.ucking great post, I'm off to the pub now to see if the sherbert can give me the same kind of slant and writing skills as you mate.

Well it's finally here. I'm cautiously optamistic for the season ahead.

If our new signings gel and we start performing from the off, i think we will be able to sustain a title challenge.

We have good reason to be optamistic, because this year things are a little bit different.

Firstly there was no summer torney and we've brought in quality players (imo).
Secondly no injuries to worry about, and thirdly a more settled side and hopefully rotation on a minimal basis.

If rafa does rotate (or should that be when) i think that the quality is there to make it work. No more mention of rotation from me, FOR NOW ANYWAY :D .

Aston Villa have been impressive in pre-season by all accounts ,with very few signings, but we should still be beating them pretty comfortably.
What i'm looking for today is for our players to be at it from the off. I know it's only the first game ,but we should be able to gage how good a pre-season the players have had, therefore how were going to perform in the coming weeks.
Rafa has stated that the prem is the priority, so he should have the team well and truley geared up and ready to go today. No lacklustre performances today please lads.

I would be well happy with a win today, but wouldn't be upset with a draw and a good performance, having said that if we're going to be more attacking i want to see the strikers putting there chances away from the off. So in theory if they do that we should win comfortably.

I'm not going to make a prediction regarding the line up ,as i regard it pointless with rafa's track record.

So let the games begin and COME ON REDMEN!!!!

3-0 to the reds by the way. :buttrock

Just got a gut feeling it'll be 1-1.

We'll control the game, but fail to win.

Thank Robbie the football is back, some people said that the previous  89 days without premiership football went really quick well for me it fooking dragged and dragged.

Im parking myself in front of the couch all day and with the big one on at 5.15. AS everyone keeps saying it is important for us to get a good start and away to Villa are the type of games you have to win if you want to win the league. When you look at the two teams on paper its a game we should win hands down but I think it will be a bit more cagey, I do think we will win it but I can see it being far from comfortable maybe 0-0 at half time and 2-0 at full time with Gerrard getting them both. Villa are no great shakes and although they are at home I cant see them setting up for a win, they would be happy with a draw.

Come on Redmen off to a flyer and put everyone on here in good form.

Well I want Liverpool to get 3 points ... but depends what Rafa's want. If he play "no to lose or neg" (4-5-1) , it will be draw and if he play "to win or pos" (4-4-3 or 4-3-3), we will get 3 points.

Yep it dont seem 5mins since the CL final.
Today is going to be hard. i still dont think Rafa is 100% on the team he is going to put out.

I hope Villa come at us as we will stuff them if they do.
