I wouldn't trust Traore at all, don't rate him. Liability, its like giving the opposition a goal from the start. Agger was brought in to replace Sami long term so a game there won't do him any harm and see how he copes, theres no way he can be worse than Traore so in this case i'd go with the "devil you don't know" rather than what you do.

Kromkamp's looked very promising for me, looks a good alround player so lets give him a go and for once lets try Steven Gerrard and Xabi Alonso in central midfield and see how it works. You never know, it might actually work...

I have a feeling this could be our yearly big win, wouldn't suprise me if we banged in three or four.

Kromkamp on the right's an interesting one Stu.

I actually think that Cisse could do ok against Man City but I still feel like we are taking a big risk everytime he is starting as we could waste an hour and get bob all (not that any of our strikers offer much at the moment). I really think Gerrard playing behind Crouch or Nando could do something and he could link nicely with Kewell and Garcia on the flanks.

I still see Kromkamp as a defensive option on the right hand side to shore things up later on in games. I don't think he really offers enough going forward and it would be seen as being a bit of a negative move.

I would perfer to play Kewell on the left hand side of midfield rather than Riise. Kewell offers us more in attack and supplies a much better service to our forward men then Riise. Altho it's pretty much wasted if our forward men can't score.

For all his flaws, I am still a massive fan of Garcia. With the now familiar scenario of our strikers not scoring, we simply can't afford to leave a goal threat like Garcia out of the team imo.

Gerrard has to play in the centre now, and that goes from now til the end of the season at least. With Momo out we need someone in the centre who can cover a lot of ground and play box-to-box. As good as Alonso and Hamann are, they're not box-to-box players, both like lying deep and I think especially at home it wouldn't be a good combination.

Can't believe anyone would suggest playing Traore, the definition of stupidity is not learning from your mistakes, if Benitez plays Traore it's a bloody stupid move. He can't be trusted, Agger needs to be blooded sooner or later and what better chance than when Carra's out. We didn't pay 5 million for the lad to have him behind Traore in the pecking order.

As for Kromkamp on the right of midfield I don't fancy it. Maybe in certain away games, but not tomorrow, it's too negative. I think he's a decent player, but he's not going to offer enough of an attacking threat playing at home against a side we should beat.

I think we'll win this one, but I can see it being close, maybe 2-1.

Daniel Agger and Jan Kromkamp have both been named in the Liverpool team for this afternoon's Premiership clash with Manchester City.
Agger comes in for the suspended Jamie Carragher while Kromkamp will fill on the right side of midfield as Steven Gerrard moves into the centre to replace the injured Momo Sissoko.

Stuart Pearce reckons Liverpool have leapt above Manchester United and Arsenal as the biggest domestic rivals to Chelsea.

Rafael Benitez's men suffered a setback to their hopes of retaining the Champions League with a defeat to Benfica but the loss has done nothing to dampen Pearce's admiration of the Spaniard's work at Anfield.

Sixteen years after the last of their record 18 league titles, it appears Liverpool now have a side capable of winning the championship again.

And, while Chelsea may be running away with this season's Premiership, Pearce has warned Jose Mourinho to watch out for a red tide which could eventually engulf him.

"Liverpool are Chelsea's biggest rivals now," said Pearce. "In fact, on form, they are currently the best side in the Premiership, and I include Chelsea in that.

"Eighteen months ago, people would have said United and Arsenal were nearest but Liverpool have now catapulted themselves into that category.

"People talk about the standards Liverpool set in the past but they are not too far away from that now. They are the European champions for a start and you can't do much better than that."

For all the improvement Liverpool have made under Benitez, there are some who deride them as a long-ball outfit. Pearce is not one of them.

The Manchester City boss sees them as a hugely effective team unit and having seen the notoriously mean Reds defence operate at close quarters in last weekend's FA Cup win over Manchester United, he knows his Blues side will struggle to find a way through as they look for a long-awaited Premiership away win.

"You have to admire how their back four works together," he said. "I watched the Manchester United game and they were so well organised defensively it was untrue. The tightness of that unit is incredible.

"It would be fantastic to be able to take some of my young defenders to a game at Anfield and show them how the two centre-halves in particular work together. It is a fantastic example for any young player."

I hope Pearce gets a phenomenal reception today, and not just because of the way he went about the Fowler transfer. He goes on about his inexperience at managerial level, but he's been so honest and respectful in interviews that you can't help but warm to the guy. Normally you get the odd platitude from a manager before a match as a matter of course, but for me there's no mind games behind what he's saying. It just comes across as an incredibly genuine and warm thing to say about an opposing team.

He's turned Man City into a bit of a mean old unit as well, so I think this may be a tight affair today. I had this one earmarked as a tonking earlier in the season, but I'm not so sure now.

That said, I think Rafa's got our best currently available 11 on the teamsheet there. Carra for Agger and Fowler for Morientes would be the only improvements we could make on that, both of whom are obviously unavailable.
