Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby lakes10 » Mon Aug 06, 2007 9:55 am

as i have said before its going to be a hard game.
there are two things we need to happen,

ASTON VILLA must feel they can beat us and come at us, that why we will win.

we put out a team that can work and get the ball in the box

We should go there and take the 3 points although picking who is going to start and were they will play is another thing.

Im going to go for 2-0.

Gerrard with then both  :;):

I hope to see Kewell starting. If he can stay fit, its gives us so much more creativity going forward which is what we need. We must get of to a good start but more importantly we cannot be out of the title race come 2 months time.

PS Did anyone watch MOTD last night. Cheeky git Lee Dixon had to squeeze a pop in at Liverpool at the end of the show. He was asked who will win the Premiership and he said at the end "I think Liverpool will finish 4th"

Personally i thought Kewell looked f#cked yesterday. The difference when Babel come on was Babel was willing to take on the full back with pace and skill whereas Kewell has the skill but looked short of pace.

Theres no way Rafa has spent £11 million on Ryan Babel to then have him as 2nd choice behind Kewell. I would have Kewell as his back up and let the Aussie get his fitness up to scratch first. Babel may well have played his way into the starting lineup for next week after yesterday.

Well thats good news. I didnt even see the game yesterday so wasnt aware of Kewells performance. I know we say it alot but on his day Kewell is great. A fit and on form Kewell and Babel will give us lots of options. Babel can also play on the right though? Whats his preferred position?

He says his preferred position is up front bav....

I'd like to see an attacking 4-4-2. My team would be:

                  Reina

      Finnan Carra Agger Riise

Benayoun Gerrard Alonso Kewell

              Voronin Torres

Subs: Hypia, Arbeloa, Momo, Babel, Crouch (no need for a keeper!)

Momo in case we need to dig in - Babel and Crouch to continue the misery for Villa after half time...

The bench will be hard to pick...we have serious strength this season. There were times in recent seasons when our bench used to be a bit of an embarassment.

Gonna go for a 2-0 victory, with us easing off after 2 early goals. Torres and Voronin for debut goals...

My inside the mind of Rafa guess lol

.................Reinna..................
Finnan....Cara....Agger.....Riissee
.................Momo...................
Pennant.....Gerrard..........Kewell
.........Torres.........Kuyt...........

Momo's been exellent in pre season, this should cement his name on the team sheet against villa.   Alonso for me is more suited for the home games.

...................Reina.................

Finnan  Carragher  Agger   Riise

Pennant  Gerrard   Alonso   Kewell

             Kuyt   Torres

That's who I'd start.  Naturally, Rafa will have other ideas!

I think thats the best formation, apart from kuyt, i would replace him with crouch because he is better with holding the ball and keeping possession.

I would be sure to have Yossi on the bench for that team, I could see it running a vanilla game and having trouble breaking teams down.  It is probably one of the more balanced and solid sides we can put out (although Mascherano comes into mind when I think of solidity in midfield), anyway there isn't a whole lot of weakness in that side, but it could use a bit of flarrrrr  :pirate

Its the first match of the season ... everyone wants to win in the first match .... I want Liverpool to get 3 points .. but  I think rafa will play 5 in the midfield ... so maybe final score line is a draw ...

While some prefers to think with their hearts..
I prefer to tell it how I see it..
Really can't see how we can win if we played like last year or like in the preseason. If we can't produce some "magic" or creativity to break down weak teams, we can't possiblity challenge for the title. No creativity to break down Villa equals a draw. I don't rate Villa highly, but then they can produce some fine form under certain circumstances.
My guess is:
Villa 1 - Pool 1

But if Momo Sisoko is playing:
Villa 2 - Pool 0

I always believe in football if you cannot score you cannot win. Though it could be different judging from response of some fans in the forum. Maybe in Premiership things are really different???  :O

Cheers.
