Barry is completely unnecessary imo.

I'd have taken him as a direct replacement for Alonso last summer because I honestly thought Alonso had gone stale here, didn't look happy and hadn't played his best football in about 2 seasons.

With hindsight though, Alonso has proven me and a lot of people wrong, he's been our best player behind Gerrard and Torres, and perhaps even more influential than Torres this season given that Torres has missed so many games.

At the moment Barry wouldn't get in our strongest team - not ahead of Alonso or Mascherano in the middle, not ahead of Riera on the left and not ahead of Aurelio at LB.  Therefore we shouldn't buy him.  Use the money on other positions where we do need strengthening - ie up front and on the right.

You'll have to forgive my vagueness here, but didn't I read an article about a clampdown on the number of foreign players in a team being bandied around, or was that minimum number required in a starting 11...something like that anyhow. He offers us a nationality option that we currently don't have.

any such rule changes would have to be implemented down the road in order to give clubs a chance to react. By the time we would really be pressing English talent, Barry's best days would be past him.

Just reading the reports from the game - why does every rag refer to Benitez as 'the former Valencia boss'?

No-one refers to Wenger as 'the former Nagoya Grampus Eight boss' ffs. :p

With yer there Scott.

As someone else said - this is like when Vladi scored the 2nd in Istanbul.

Game on.

It's funny, cos before we played Man U, I looked at their fixtures and couldn't see when they could drop points.

Straight after the Man U game I was like that in the pub, "They will lose at Fulham, these things happen sometimes".

Now I think Villa will win there in 2 weeks after they have time to get their bad form out of their system.

Then I think Sunderland might get a 1-1.

Arsenal will get a draw there as will Spurs.

Man U are like a Heavyweight boxing Champ who hasd taken a big right to the chin, and now their knees have gone.

Question is - when will they regain their composure???

Interestinggggggggggggg..................!

United's confidence took a huge knock when we went there and stuffed them.  Clearly they haven't got it out of their system yet and Fulham took advantage.  It's still theirs to lose, but if, and it's a big if, we can win the rest of our games then I think we'll have enough points to beat them.

Once again though the international break has come at the worst possible time for us.  We lose our momentum while United can regain their composure.  One thing's for sure though, United will be sh.itting themselves tonight and we are back in this race.

"The team was doing well but it's true I am not totally happy because we could have scored more goals," said Benitez, who wanted the Reds to push on after the dismissal of Brad Friedel at 4-0.

"We were playing against 10 players and had three or four more chances. It's really important to take them because you never know what's going to happen with the goal difference.

"Today it wasn't key but in other games it has been. I wanted more goals. It's an area we need to improve.

It's interesting this self criticism of the manager. He does so at a stage of the season in which our effectiveness is being lethal. We didn't have that effectiveness when Torres wasn't available and clearly that's something the managers want out of the players.

It's a good self criticism IMHO and the goal difference do have importance. Not to mention that these spankings are sending the right messages to our next rivals. These results do intimidate and that's a good thing.

Id love a job at Anfield :)

Watching match of the day now to re-live the atmosphere again.

You just make sure you start allmatch threads OK  :;):

Well - awesome performance, perfect end to a a perfect weekend.

I said last week when we beat the Mancs.. the title race was back on.

United have the wobbles and I'm quoting some of there fans who feared the result against us last week - sighting fatigue as a real worry, they scraped past Inter, so the signs have been there.

Any how I have believed throughtout this campaign that anything is possible, even the impossible, because so much can change in a matter of days in this game.

I believe in Rafa and his methods and his ideas.. and that he will win us the league.

So it is game on... the heat is on and we are turning it up on the Mancs, yes they have the upperhand, but to be where we are today, well come on..

BELIEVE ... THIS AIN'T OVER BY A LONG SHOT  :buttrock
THE BRENDAN REVOLUTION IS UPON US !

KING KENNY.. Always LEGEND !

RAFA.. MADE THE PEOPLE HAPPY !

Miss YOU Phil-Drummer - RIP YNWA

Rafa's right, this is going to go to the wire and look at the goal differences between us, Ure and Chelsea - Reds 33, Ure 31, Chavski 32 !! We need to bag some big goals quick.

Just got in, ABSOLUTELY made up with that score, exactly the response we needed to show Utd and Chavs we are the new champions and put them off their stride. Amaazing they both lost and a fantastic response from the Reds.

Well done lads!
