ASTON VILLA VS LIVERPOOL - The countdown begins

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I'll take that.

Its funny cause these arguments come up all the time. 2 seasons ago under Tubbs we played Blackburn away, missed about 12 sitters (step forward Milan Baros) and contrived to lose 2-0. This was blamed on our inept finishing - and rightly. If the game had finished 90 seconds after the equaliser would you have blamed bad finishing, or felt hard done by?

In my more philosophical moments I think Saturday had to happen like that. Was it 'Boro away last year when Gerrard was "getting on the end of his own crosses" and you didn't win?

Losing at home to you lot, despite losing me a few £5's with all the gloryhunters I know, will be worth it if we get the breaks up at St James' next weekend. Heres to a winner direct from a freekick Petrov won by diving. Which it is probably time to admit he may do, or at least go down easily.

And Bamaga Man if you're bringing up history lets have another look at the penalty Rodney Trotter won last season.

I think that was the worst decision out of the lot of em.

Thing is Gerrard didnt dive (ala Barry style) he could of powered on through Petrov, but didnt bother as he felt he was obstructed rightly or wrongly. But he stayed on his feet unlike Villa's very own Barry, whos poor attempt at diving made Robbens diveS like Olympi-esk.

Best of luck to you. Any team that can wipe the smug face off Fat Sam will do alright with me.

And btw...

Fair play to you lad for coming on here after the game, especially when you've lost. Takes Bollox that. Like i said, you don't always get the breaks when you want them. But sometimes they DO even out.

YNWA.

Or, Gerrard stopped for pretty much no reason when the ball had ran away from him and nearer to another player. If he could have powered on he wouldn't have stopped, surely that is an uncontroversial statement.

Edit, cheers red37. I came on here wanting to start a topic about the crowd problems on Saturday and sort of got distracted but I think that needs to be talked about as well, with both sides contributing.

Anon_Villan wrote:You saying Gerrard didn't buy that free-kick? Still? Don't start shouting your mouth off cause you're on an internet forum, I'm not trying to wind anyone up, I'm just putting my view (which has calmed considerably since Saturday evening) against all of yours. Quite a few Liverpool fans have admitted it wasn't a freekick, Alan Hansen was one of them.

Look at Carraghers own reaction to that penalty, he knew that it would be given and rightly so. If Cahill did that at the other end would you have wanted a penalty? Of course you would. I don't really understand your point about no players being right behind him, you can't control a ball with your hand no matter who's around in football. Though maybe Gerrard should try that next time Mike Rileys reffing you.

Likewise if Petrov had ran, not very fast, into a stationary Gerrard (didn't even move his arm towards him), then stopped, flung his arms around and bawled at the ref you wouldn't have thought it was a freekick - because it wasn't.

Barry did not throw himself down like he had been shot, he skinned about 4 players, lost control and took the easy option of falling over. I've just seen it again and it wasn't very clever, but he seemed quite embarrassed by it - as your hardman captain should be.

Any other insults or football :censored: to spout RedBlood?

Sorry the freekick wasnt liverpools fans fault , gerrards fault .
Ref gave it so blame him tbh from that area its still a 1 in 20 that gerrard scored so i just LMAO at villa nice we get our own back this season.

Plus if i was a villa fan i worrie about how defencive you was playing at home i would worrie alot because i cant see you finishing any where more then 16th in table if you keep that up.

So before comming no our forums and moaning about your home loss look at the way your team played and ask your self why did we really lose.

Oh don't worry I'm blaming the ref. Get your own back? For what?

If we were playing Liverpool/ManUtd/Chelsea every week I would be worried. Fortunately none of the other teams are anywhere near as good. If you really think we will finish 16th or lower go down the bookies and back yourself.

Now I may have been watching completely different game to you Leggy, but I don't think we were entirely defensive. Particularly since in the second half your tactics (rightly) were to soak up pressure from deep and then hit us with pace on the break. This is what we tried, and failed, to do in the first half. I guess a few other people on here went to the match as well, am I talking complete rubbish?

Yes you attacked in the last 15 mins but you cant win a game like that.

The rest of the game i remeber us pretty much dominating your play.

Now i cant say i am happy about last 15 mins , it was a pen but you didnt look like scoring really apart from that pen and the good header at end.

Look my point is i see this ever year with villa at home to the top 4 they defend all first have mostly attack last 20 mins.

You should take a look at pompy or reading because these are the up and comming teams and if villa aint careful you could be catched out by these and have a very poor season.

I guess only time will tell but if i am right i would liek you to pop on here so i can have i told you so.  :rasp

I thought the second half wasn't dominated by anybody. Liverpool broke well and created chances but only when we pushed forward.

You are right about Villa not beating the top sides, apart from Chelsea who we've got the sign over (Jose has never won at Villa Park, they haven't this Millenium). Thing is your sort of wrong as well. Take Arsenal last season at home, we battered them for the whole of the second half. Take Liverpool last season, no-one bothered attacking.

If we finish below Pompey and Reading, and in the bottom 5 as you predicted before, i will come on here and take a public humiliation.

Just for the record, where do you think you will finish this year? Will you take a year out from the cup competitions as well?

the thing is you said :censored: in other posts like "Gerrard dived"..."I've lost respect for your saintly captain" and "Gerrard bought that free kick"... and in between your seemingly fair discussion points you've put bitter sarcastic remarks against our team... and then you claim I'm not here to wound anyone up... pls do me a favour... stop being bitter and wasting your time on here... don't worry about what liverpool will do and go worry about when your first keeper sorenson will return so that you won't be stuck with a fatass arsenal reject keeper who couldn't save a free kick from 30 yards out....

aston villa is a historical club... so pls worry about your own club... and not worry about what we'll do...

personaly 2nd would be great but i hope we can prove every one wrong and win the prem i dont think its an option for me but you can hope.

We lack 1 more good center half a left back and another winger messi be nice.

But this year we have to close the gap , and have some good run in the cups.

I be happy with that.

Just shame with villa they promise so much each season have some good players yet they play so defensive i love martin o'niel he is a top grade manager and who knows in a few years if you can stay up he might just build a team that can go for uafa  :glare:

Imo, we just need a left back, really.

We have still have Hyypia.

And we've got Leto.

I'm surprised Rafa didnt go for Chiellini. ???
