Hopefully we don't fall asleep in this game after two big wins I would hate having a let down against Villa.  Have to keep moving forward after those wins and lets not forget about Chelsea this isn't just a two horse race right now.  They're above us on GD we need to keep the pressure on both Chelsea and Man U.

In Bermo and Rafa we trust !!

Strongest 11. If Alonso not back, happy for Lucas start another pressure game.

Would wag my finger at Albert, otherwise Dossena playing in front of Fabio.

Villa will be fired up for this one, they need the points and they want to poke us in the eye for the cak over the summer with Barry.

Rafa to stick the head on MON 3-1.

Forza lads!!

Not sure Dossena has earned a startin place for this Reg, I'm happy to see him fight a place from the bench at the minute. There's no doubt Aurellio is a better player, and he kept Gaynaldo in his pocket satdy, so if Xabi's fit and back my only other change would be to test Babel (not my favrit player by a long chalk) in Riera's place.

I have no doubt the gareth barry saga may well fire up villa, but i think we have the team to stop them. I'd leave Sami in up against Heskey, sorry Carra - RB I'm afraid son. Sami's ability in the air would somewhat negate Heskey and i dont see them startin carew.

I dont normally bother with team selections - thats what the gaffer's paid so well to do, an if u saw how my dream team was doin u'd understand why!! sundy cant come soon enough, an i doubt thats just my sentiment neither.
Stu Averill, a wannabe Scouse/Scot. I remember the good times & have faith in them comin back

Beside the Hillsborough Flame, I heard a Koppite mournin, "Why so many taken on that day?" Justice has never been done. But their memory we'll carry on. There'll be Glory Round The Fields Of Anfield Road

Villa look a bit shaken and that could be a bad thing, they really need to start picking up points as Arsenal have started to come into a bit of form of late. I still expect us to win but I think it will be close and, maybe just 1-0

Is Arbeloa still injured ? We could do with him putting Mr Young in his pocket for that game.  Otherwise we should have enough for a win by a couple of goals.

I didn't know of the amnesty Ace commented, I missed that one. If Alonso is not totally fit, I wouldn't mind to see starting the same eleven that crushed Manchester away.

I think Mascherano is playing better as of late, of course he misses a couple of passes, but so did Aurelio, so does Alonso and so does everybody. I think he's playing better than in the early part of the season, so I'd like him to get some continuity.

Alonso could be fully healed in the same time, and plus, he has shown more than once that he's able to come from the bench and plug to the game inmediatly, he's not an ipod player.

ANFIELD THE KEY TO BARRY’S DESTINY

Thursday March 19,2009
By John Wragg

MARTIN O’NEILL needs a win at in-form Liverpool to have a chance of keeping Gareth Barry at Aston Villa.

Villa’s current slump has seen them drop out of the Champions League qualifying places and without top European football next season, Barry is likely to leave.

He was close to quitting Villa for Liverpool last summer, but Rafa Benitez was not allowed to increase his £18million offer and O’Neill managed to keep Barry despite a furious row with him.

That has been patched up and Barry has been in impressive form. He pledged to stay with Villa until the end of the season, but left his options open after that.

Villa boss O’Neill is convinced that if his side get into the Champions League, Barry will stay, but that Europa League football will not be enough.

Villa have not won a Premier League game since the beginning of February, losing three times and taking only one point to allow Arsenal to overtake them in fourth place.

O’Neill has banned Barry and former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey from talking before the game at Anfield but after Sunday’s home defeat by Spurs, Barry said: “The defeat was another big blow to our season. There are nine games to go and the advantage definitely lies with Arsenal.

“Arsenal will have been watching, realising that. Nine games to go, level on points, but we are low on confidence. However, we are one game away from a good performance and turning it around again so we cannot worry about it too much. We have to be positive.

“We have two tough fixtures coming up and if we deliver a performance of the season in one of them, it could catapult us to a good finish.”

First Villa have Liverpool, fresh from their four-goal maulings of Real Madrid and Manchester United, and then they go to Old Trafford. It is Liverpool who are on Barry’s mind.

“The form we are in and the form Liverpool are in, it is two different ends of the scale. Hopefully it can help us as they are on a hiding to nothing and we have nothing to lose,” he said. “One result could turn it around. We are being written off. Character is a big word – we have to show that until the end of the season. If the good players perform when you are really up against it, that is a good sign.”

That puts the pressure on Barry, who was the key to Villa’s rise to third place after their last Premier League win at Blackburn.

“Liverpool – it is set up for a big game personally and one for the team,” he said. “The team is a priority but I will look to play my normal way and do my best for Villa.

“What goes on with the fans, I will try to keep out of my head. I have blocked out that saga, it’s all gone in my eyes. The fans will bring it back up as they tend to remember, but once I am on the pitch, I have to do my best.”

O’Neill is hoping the fact that Arsenal are now fighting on three fronts – Champions League quarter-finals, Premier League and the FA Cup semi-finals – will play into his hands.

He abandoned the UEFA Cup to target Champions League qualification and despite the criticism he is still taking for that decision, he stands by it.

It might now turn out to be his trump card. “I’m responsible for the football club so eventually all the decisions that are made will be mine,” said O’Neill.

“It’s my responsibility to put a side out to try to win some games and, of course, I obviously accept all the criticism that’s coming round. Some of it is a bit over the top but it is less of an issue than you think.

“You do what you consider is the right thing. You take these decisions. Other sides who have played lesser teams in the League Cup and have gone out have taken less abuse.

“Aston Villa might not be, for the next 25 years, in with the same chance of qualifying for the Champions League. You never know.

“I’m not really concerned about it. Take the stick, take the punishment. That’s my job. My time here will be dictated by results and the sort of progress we make.

“It’s only four weeks ago that Arsene Wenger was told by fans to leave his job and a couple of years ago when Manchester United fans were phoning in saying Sir Alex Ferguson had lost the plot – and they’re the champions.

“It’s entirely Aston Villa fans’ prerogative to do what they want, but I’m not so sure that it’s entirely helpful at the minute.”
