MANCHESTER CITY VS LIVERPOOL - Build up here

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

If you go buy  our player standings the line-up has got to be:
                 Reina
Finnan   Carra   Agger   Arbeloa
         Mascherano   Alonso
Pennant      Gerrard         Zenden
                          Crouch
Subs:
Dudek
Hyypia
Riise
Kuyt
Momo

Although I am thinking riise or even gonzalez would have better chances at starting on the left.  Also, I am aware at how playing Gerrard in that position can take away from his game because he is also such a good defensive player and sometimes gets lost in the hole, but it was the only way to get him Pennant (who is on very good form recently) Mascherano (on even better form) and Alonso ( played well against PSV at home) on the pitch at the same time.  Although Kuyt scored the late winner against reading, the midfield has been playing really well and we went with 5 in midfield against Arsenal and that seemed to go pretty well.  The only other option to play those 4  in midfield would be to put stevie on the left, which I have also seen called out as a cardinal sin.

With the key players being rested in midweek they should be up for this and we should be winning there.
It wont be easy though City are also in good form and although they are safe from relegation Pearce should have them up for it, as he will be wanting them to finish as far up the league as possible. Also the game against them at Anfield was really tight, with a late-ish winnner from Gerrard being the difference.
I fancy a narrow victory for ourselves.

By the way is Robbie fit ?
I only ask as this question was put to Rafa on the official site

Going into the semi-finals of the Champions League are you confident you have enough fire-power because you have some injuries to Craig Bellamy and Robbie Fowler?

I hadnt heard anything about any Fowler injury  ???

Haha, Joe, I can see you are fan of statistics really. :) But Stats need more trials and weeks to be considered. Anyhow, that line-up of yours it's not absurd whatsoever ;)

And yes you're right, Zenden won't play probably.

Play the team most of you are saying, 2 quick goals then start pulling players off to rest them. Best to rest players once the points are in the bag, not before.

if I use common sense and replace bolo with Riise, then its identical to st. Michael's XI.  But I think these statistics are very good to use as well since they only take the last 4 games into affect showing the trend of recent form.  When it gets this late into the season if a player and been playing incredible for the first 13 weeks but was playing like absolute sh.ite all of a sudden towards the last month and a half the overall stats would still show that the player was worthy of a go, instead of playing the hot hand.

Fowler is out today with a calf strain, probably caused by constantly switching positions trying to get a decent pass in the PSV game  ???

With pennant and gonzales playing in the wing , alonso and mascherano in the middle (gerrard above them)

We will score loads with a midfield like this...!!!

4-0 to the the Reds..!!

2 crouch , 1 gerrard , 1 pennant !!! :p

I'm also feeling confident about this game and if we can win this one and the gooners loose to Bolton then I reckon we more or less have 3rd place in the bag.

BTW There are some decent streams for the game at http://www.streamedsport.com

Swap Dirk for Crouch and thats probably our strongest 11 for me at the moment. Riise is a lot better on the left of midfield than at left back and he restores the balance we are missing with Harry out.

I predict a 2 - 0 win for us today - Dirk Kuyt 2 goals.

That's f.ucking sound that formation. Really strong in the centre especially in terms of tackling and passing. Yeah, I would rather have Crouch but I'm pleased with that. Maybe we will see a more revatilised Dirk Kuyt when the onus is on him not him trying set others up as such.
