team seems so much better balanced now with gerrard centre he had so many chances, a hatrick most days but for a great display from thier keeper. torres looks class and already seems to have an understanding with kuyt. babel looked threatning when he came on overall a good display: good result : well pleased

It was a bollox penalty, it was only the spin on the ball as it came up that caused it to hit Carras hand, he wasn't even looking at the ball, funny how it came not long after O'Neil cried about not getting a throw in. Its irrelevant now anyway as it evened itself out with the free kick that never was.

Impressive work upfront from Torres and Kuyt, first touches are not there yet but that will come both of them very Rush like in the way they never gave the Villa deffence a minutes peace or time to look up and play a decent ball, Pennant is improving but we need people in the box or there is no point him putting crosses in but he needs to look up more too, if no one is there wait or cut back,  and he needs to sort his temper out he was lucky to stay on the pitch both today and in the Feyenoord game.

Expect the changes to be made for the Tolouse game Wednesday, i would stick with Torres up front and let him gain a little more confidence and hopefully a goal or two

Ive just watched the free kick again on the screen when they showed O'Neil and Petrov got the ball but Stevies momentum took him into him, there was at least four or five challenges exactly the same as that  in the game that were not given, the Reff bottled it on both decisions and evened them out.

If the incident with Carra was outside the box IMO it would not have been given, if the incident with Stevie was inside the box IMO it would never have been given.

Like i said irrelevant now, we got the win so its all good

Agree with that - Carra could and should have left the ball - it was a reflex action.

Great opening game to the season though - not perfect but we came back to win after the penalty which is the mark of a good team.

The new boys looked impressive today - you could feel the class and intelligence of Torres and Babel looked dangerous on the right - like he could really unlock defenses. Voronin didn't get much time today but he looks like a natural finisher. Very encouraging. BTW Luke Young - superb!

On the telly they showed a view of the foul where Stevie was clearly held back by the Villa player - definite free kick, but as you say - who cares? 3 freakin' points!

When you think off all the money we spent and what everyone was saying about that it worth noting that the 11 players that off took to the field today only Torres was a new signing

Villa away is always a tough match, but we got the 3 points and our team will only improve with fitness and form.

Great to see that Liverpool is finally starting to attack their opposition... I can only see only great things coming of this change from defensive to attacking.

Te positive:
Babel plays great- create chances, able to beat defenders and looks strong.
Pennant (while doesn't cross great) provide great knock back for teammates outside the penalty area to shoot. Great strategy.
Alonso seems ok. Some great passes and vision. But still need more creativity to break teams down.

Riise need to build-up his confidence and control his shot better.
Momo Sisoko really need to learn how to pass and keep possesion of the ball.
Kuyt (while hard working and all) really need to improve is ball control especially critical first touches.
Gerrard really need to boss the midfield abit more.

Overall defense look troubled by good crosses (some bad ones too). Team passing is not bad, but still room for improvement. Once all this nitty gritty stuff more or less iron out, we can aim for more trophies...
