Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

LIVERPOOL are still trying to gel together and without Steven Gerrard they could struggle at Aston Villa tomorrow.

It is a work in progress at Anfield and for the time being Rafael Benitez can rely on just two players – Gerrard and Fernando Torres. With Gerrard injured, I rate Villa slight favourites and the Gareth Barry transfer saga may fire them up even more tomorrow.

However, long-term I don't foresee problems for the red half of Merseyside and I am puzzled by the negative analysis after two league wins and progress to the group stages of the Champions League.

Torres came back late after Spain's success at Euro 2008 and we are still waiting for the partnership with Robbie Keane to work because at the moment they are making the same runs.

Keane just needs to work harder in training and he will improve and Rafa will give the duo until at least Christmas to make the system work.

The plan at the start of the campaign was to have two full-backs playing as wing-backs, but that has not worked out with Andrea Dossena failing to deliver what was required of him, so that is why Albert Riera will be signed from Espanyol rather than Barry to give the team more width.

On his day, Riera is the best left-winger in Europe – he has so many qualities – although he struggles for consistency and I also wonder how he will react to Rafa's rotation system.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Interesting to hear his views on Riera

So Villa are favourites, Dossena is a flop and Riera can be the best winger in Europe...right

In your own little world it is yes, are you going to sack rafa?

I would sack Rafa if we did very badly in the 1st 10 games and if we got 3rd or 4th or didn't get into CL next season, I would sack him after the season ends and start with new manager. ( Hope I'm wrong )

There are three very good young manager in the European countries. JM , I don't he will come to Liverpool , Rafa , our current manager but been with us for more than 4 years and still no win as champion in PL and last Slaven Bilic has proven in Euro Cup.

Possibly I agree there, but to say this game is make or break is just madness, there is 35 games left after this and we've already won 2

Maybe you are right ... it's madness but it's a pain where Rafa

1) wants to buy GB for 18M ( because he's english and can play left back, left midfield and CM ). O neil knows that if he sells GB , it's just given Rafa a "solution" on the problem on the Left Back because Rafa just sold Riise to Roma. So he "markup" the price from 10M-12M to 18M. Lucky the two owner didn't give the money to Rafa.

2) Sell alonso to the Goners. They "lost" Flamini (CM) to Milan and they thot Denison can do the job but he's too young, if Rafa did sell Alonso to them, it's just like Rafa given them a "solution" to solve their problem in  the CM. At least if Rafa told them that exchange TW (no cash) just exchange do you think that they will exchange ? Of course NOT.

3) Now he going to sign Reira. If he's good , surely RM and Barca buy him or Man City will sign him end of last season  ( NOT Loan). Rafa states that "He has experience in the Premier League and that is really important." I don't really understand what he's talking about. Hope that Rafa won't sign him.

4) In less than 48 ago, we miss SWP (10M) and Milner(10M). They are English , they are wingers and they are young and they also have the experience in the Premier League.  Why Rafa did go and get them ? But there's a Hope, Downing and Aaron Lennon but I don't think they will come cheap.

5) Current Team, everyone knows that Kuyt is hardworking player but why he keeping playing on the right midfield, and if he's a striker why buy keane in the 1st place ? Only Rafa knows the answer.

Well we will see all this the first 10 matches.

Tomorrow match , My Heart say Liverpool will win but My brain say .... hope that we go there at least get a point.

Tomorrow will be a tough game , tensions will be high , the crowds will be hostile , our players will be booed but its up to them to shun this out and perform , we have the quality with or without gerrard and we can beat villa , whether we will is another thing . I don't think Gareth barry will play tomorrow , its to personal for him . Villa have some good players but we are liverpool and if we really want it , we will beat them . Xabi , this is a big game for the lad , time for him to prove that he;s better than barry , make a stand that rafa was wrong to court barry all summer when he's got alonso , i've been one of his biggest critics but i hopes he performs tomorrow and saves us that money that we were supposed to spend on barry , he needs to rediscover his form and he is capable of doing it .

I don't think he will play as he's mind as not been on footie for these past 3 games including the england one , sure they had a good first game , where barry had 2 assist but apart from that he was practically anonymous the whole game , and last week against stoke they lost and barry put in a poor performance just like he did for england , MON could go for a more defensive centre pairing such as petrov and reo coker , and there's no way he'd hand him back the captain's band yet .

If we want to be serious title contenders we HAVE to take all 3 points tomorrow.

At the end of the days its just another game against a mediocre team.
