leaving midfield exposed ?? im sorry but i cant remember them attacking much down our right side ? maybe the left side but not the right ? if kuyt wandered inside then keane filled the gap or torres did , they switched and moved around a lot and created between themselves. look at our second goal as a perfect example - kuyt just inside the right - holds off three players dribbles round two plays it to torres wide right who whips in a great cross for keane to get on the end off - so nothing was exposed.
people are praising gerrard for last night (some saying perfect performance) yet slagging kuyt of for his .
gerrard played ok - was pretty woeful in first half with his passing and second half got better and scored a cracker - so an ok performance.
Kuyt did well first half - getting on scoresheet and helping create the second . second half was a bit quiter but was constant movement going forward and defending by working well with arbeloa - tried passes that didnt come off and some that did - remember that ball he pinged out to reira - great ball and reira put in an equally good ball into the box - if gerrard had played that ball some would of said it was an outstanding racking pass.

If you don't think he is good enough fair enough but just leave it at that, there is nothing you can do about it. He is in the squad, a big part of Rafa's plans by the looks of things. Back your team, back your players.
Untill Kuyt starts playing well below par im backing him and the manager and I think you should do the same

i think people are taking both sides to the extremes. lets make no mistake kuyt is to football what penquins are to flying, thats my opinion and it may be over the top, but then we get people defending kuyt and also going over the top, someone likened him to dalglish on here ffs![]()
lets just meet the middle ground, kuyt is a slightly below average footballer with lots of energy who is a squad player at best for us but would shine at somewhere like bolton
Dont agree Peewee.
If you have to have a compromise it has to be that Rafa DOES know what he´s doing more than members of this forum so therefore:
"Kuyt is an above average footballer with lots of energy, a first team player who would shine at just about whatever club he played".
Thats reflects reality a bit better.

Hes doing his job at the mo setting people up and scoring the odd goal he works his
off for the team.
I just wish now an again the lad gets the credit he derseves. An dont say it was a flucky goal he made the space for himself to put the ball in the net. And he held off 3 defenders to set the ball nicely up for Torres to put the cross in for Keane. Give the lad some credit

GYBS wrote:umm isnt the basic concept of the game to get the ball into the back of the net ? Didnt kuyt do that ? There is only the top class players that do everything to high standard ie torres gerrard messi etc . No one has said kuyt is like that . And you must of watched a different game to many people last night ? Lots of gaps ? I didnt say many ? Slagging him of for chasing down the ball and players ? What next ?
maypaxvobiscum wrote:ok here is one for you guys, kuyt scored. i feel the keeper made a mistake. that any other keeper would have done better. if THAT type of goal was scored against us, would u blame the keeper, or would u think that it was a good strike?

You completely lack basic understanding of the game.
Yes I was slating him for chasing down players, you ever played the game?
No?
Ok, well heres an example for you. If I've got the ball and I'm in the centre of the pitch and I see the right sided player come running towards me I'd look straight away for my left back or left winger knowing for a fact one of them would be free. If I couldn't actually make the pass I'd look to realease it to a player who could get the ball into that position as thats where the space is.
That happened 5 or 6 times last night as Kuyt went mindlessly chasing the ball infield and they picked him off. Had a better player been receiving the ball then they would have used the space alot better.
Now in football, alot of circumstances lead to goals, now if you give a player like Evra that kind of space, he'll step on the accelerator and run at your team causing it to lose shape, chances are he'll play a pass... to someone like Rooney or Tevez or Ronaldo then bang, you're 1-0 down and chasing the game.
Against the best sides, its little details like that, that cost you points, goals, possession and everything else. Now, if you don't pick up on them and eradicate them against the lesser teams, then you're going to get punished when you play the better sides.
Football is about more than just running around alot. A hell of a lot more.
