Any of them would thrive playing swift, flamboyant football with Torres, Gerrard and Aquilani under the Hodgson. As you all seem to think we're inevitably heading for a nose dive into mid-table mediocrity, let's at least do it in style.. It's better to have not tried and failed, than to have worked ur ar5e off and still failed.

Dirk Kuyt has given new Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson some good news by declaring his wish to remain at Anfield.

Kuyt is yet to speak with Rafael Benitez's replacement and will be otherwise engaged this weekend as he looks to win the World Cup with Holland.

But once the excitement of life in South Africa has died down, Kuyt will have a chat with Hodgson.

And one of his first tasks will be to re-assure his new boss about his future plans.

"Of course I want to stay," said the 26-year-old.

"Liverpool is a great club with a great history.

"Unfortunately in my four years I haven't won anything but hopefully in the future, I will still have that chance.

"We will have to see what happens but hopefully the manager wants me to stay.

"I spoke to people at the club and I know he wants to speak with me. But it is very difficult at the moment because we are so busy and focus on what lies ahead."

Forget the stats; how many times last season were we breaking forward with pace only for his terrible control and/or lack of pace to break the whole move down. Sorry but I believe footballers should have more about them than just a willingness to work hard. Our right winger should have the guile to glide past players and create goal scoring opportunities at will; not work hard tracking back and chipping the ball in the air everytime it comes to him and then kneeing it and 10 minutes later still trying to figure out where it is.

Shame you can't see beyond the end of your nose or through some hatred of Kuyt because if you truly believe all he does is work hard then you truly are clueless, or simply refusing to register what he does during games.

And you clearly missed his assist in the last dutch game, but then it can't have happened because he never controls the ball and therefore must have lost possession just before he somehow crossed it. He didn't beat the defender for pace either, but he didn't need to, yet some seem to talk of that as if it is the be all and end all of playing out wide, or perhaps it's just Kuyt will never be quick and because that is his only real weakness then that is what the bashers have to focus on since noone can argue he is quick

I guess the dutch coach must be an idiot, what with the dutch persisting with Kuyt and as a consequence only reaching the final ffs

excuse me for giving an opinion. yes you're right - his only weakness is his lack of pace  :Oo:

hatred of kuyt? - i actually think he seems a great guy, but i'm not keen on his style of play. from what i've seen over the past seasons, i find him hugely irritating as he breaks our own play down in the final 3rd. i honestly believe that if we had a decent 'traditional' pacey winger, they'd contribute all that kuyt does and more - what evidence do you have to suggest otherwise? no, i didn't think so - so get ur head out of ur ar5e and look beyond ur own nose.

Which traditional pacey wingers score more and create more goals than kuyt over the last couple of seasons ?

That might be true but if there was a stat called unforced errors or giveaways Kuys "win" those by a mile over any wingers.

I actually watched the whole games last season with Kuyt and he was mostly awful only weighing up his performances in the games he scored.

I lost count over the season how many times he failed to keep control of the balls. He can never take a game on by himself and is reliant on how his teammates fare.

Overall Kuyt is a decent 30 year old player nothing more.
Last chance to get any money for him this summer more or less.
And he will have a similar season as the one he just had at best.

you seem to forget that Kuyt was signed as a STRIKER....the only reason he's been pushed out wide is because he was utter sh!te in front of goal and we were low on opions.

I would sell him now. At 30, and with the Dutch world cup, he would fetch a few quid and i would replace him with a WINGER.

Which winger shall we replace him with then - let's remember he must get at least 10 goals a season as well as the same amount of assists - be available to play every single game - have the best work ethic , been able to track back , play up front or on the left as well as right and genuinely have the best attitude towards the club .

Dirk CANNOT PLAY UP FRONT. I don't know why people keep banging on that he can. To repeat myself, he was SIGNED AS A STRIKER. He WAS SH!TE!  Rafa chucked him on the left when we were short on options when Kewell got injured,

Off the top of my head, i don't know who i would replace him with. But if you're trying to honestly say that Kuyt is one of the best wingers in Europe then you are either drunk or off your head.

It can be mate - but he must be affordable - same price maybe less than what we would get for kuyt at present

Kuyt can play up front and has done many times - the problem is when he is up front on his own . No one has ever said he is the best most skilful winger in the land but I tell you what - he is ine the most productive ones around and his value to his team - club and country is recognised by many people in the game - shame some of his own fans don't recognise it .

I feel sorry for Johnson if he goes!!!

Seriously though, there are lots of players that need to be replaced at Liverpool over the next season or two for many different reasons.  It can't all happen this summer.

Due to poor investment, we have a couple of old bargain players like Jovanovic, Maxi and the Greek.
kuyt, Gerrard and Carra are in their 30's now.

We desperately need new owners to get rid of the sell to buy policy or we'll have a squad of pensioners and hence more big problems in a couple of years.

so there is no way we can replace Kuyt.

One of our major failings last season was lack of width and pace. We would try and play everything through the middle because, quite simply, we have no wingers.

We need someone with a creative spark and a spring in their step. In fantasy football land, i would sign Robben. But anyone with pace and a good left foot would suffice.
