Why must it be totally finished players playing for our rivals?

It's better to at least get something and buy players that are young and promising like for example Young before he went to Villa.

Just to wait until all players are 35 and have nothing makes no sense at all.

When the players are still performing and doing the business for us why should we cash in when they are reaching 30 ?! Should be cash in in gerrard and carra ?! Can players no finish their careers with us . Selling kuyt on the basis that we would get less for him in a couple of years is stupid - in our situation we need to keep hold of our best players and yes that includes kuyt

I wouldn't get rid of Dirk if he wants to stay. In a season which is full of imponderables, having Derek Kuyt in the team at least gives you some surity. He won't look pretty, but he will give whoever he is playing directly against an uncomfortable afternoon. Derek Kuyt wasn't good enough for a team with pretensions about challenging for the title. He IS good enough though for a team which finished 7th last season and is looking to improve, into possibly a champions league slot. I think Kuyt will be one of our most important players, and I think it is really heartening to read he wants to stay.

Thanfully the much vaunted mass exodus of players is looking like it isn't going to happen. Masherano wants away regardless of who is the manager, but at this stage we are in with at least a fighting chance of keeping everyone else.

I honestly don't think it says too much about our team when we're even more grateful to hang to a player like Kuyt. Oh how times have changed, we now need to look to players like Kuyt who's attitude has always remained tip top. We need that now as much as anything and we'll need a player like him who is willing to dig in and get his hands dirty. If Hodgson could compliment Kuyt's style where Rafa couldn't/wouldn't and purchase a cheap-ish flair player or two, or even get the team playing some decent football again, people could learn to appreciate him more. But when he's in a side already devoid of 'ideas' and is an international to boot. Eyes are on him to produce the goods instead of leaving that solely down to Torres and Gerrard and more often than not, Kuyt has been found wanting.

So you're singling out Kuyt for criticism when the whole team is equally culpable. Since when was it entirely down to Kuyt to make up for Torres being absent and Gerrard playing like he was absent too?!?!?

Kuyt is an important player, not a star player. And by that I mean he contributes a lot, but he's not the kind of player that will turn games or boss them. That is why he looks so good in the dutch team, he plays his part but the rest of his team mates aren't passengers. That is the team Rafa built, Kuyt is one of those players that will look good in a good side, but won't look so good in a poor one - but then who does and who did?!?!?

Since when was it entirely down to Kuyt to make up for Torres being absent and Gerrard playing like he was absent too?!?!?

It isn't entirely upto Kuyt but it would be nice if some of our other senior internationals had the ability to carry on the mantle, would it not?

Ah, so you're admitting he's just there to make up the numbers and isn't expected to offer any skill, creativity, etc. If that's what your (low) expectation is of him no wonder you rate him so highly. World player of the year hey because he 'does his job' - I've read it all now.

I for one thought that Kuyt was on his way but I am happy that he has come out and stated his committment to LFC.

Let's see what Roy has in mind for Kuyt. Maybe he will be given a chance in his favoured striking role, maybe he is best suited to playing off a front man, maybe he sticks where he is on the right or parhaps as part of a fairly fluid 3 in a 4-2-3-1 formation.e

I don't think anyone can guess what Woy has planned and that's he beauty of getting a new man in. A new start for all. The same applies for Babel who I STILL think can play a part in the 1st team.

Rafa tried to fit square pegs (strikers) into round holes (wingers) with both Babel and Kuyt!!

Yes it's not really important, but three or four weeks ago if you read this forum we were going to lose all of our best players because none of them would work with a manegerial non-entity such as "Woy" Hodgson. Because our "World Class" manager had left, the players were going to be queueing up to get out of the door.

It still may happen of course, and I'm not silly enough to claim that the players were going to leave but now we've got Roy they've all changed their minds. The simple fact of the matter is though players such as Masherano leaving ("it's started" when he re-affirmed his desire to leave) hs little or nothing to do with the new manager, nor does the fact that players are now considering staying. Don't be surprised if no bids come in for Masherano to hear him saying he's "reconsidered and couldn't bare to leave".

Roy has a big reputation within the game and is hugely respected. The fact that some Liverpool fans don't share that respect and openly show it, is frankly neither here nor there.

Once again I'll put my neck on the block and say it. If we keep all our best players and either sign or develop genuine cover for Torres, non-entity or not I think Roy will have us challenging for the title. I don't think we'll win it, or miss out on goal difference, but we will IMHO challenge.

I think already, before a ball has even been kicked, that one or two are begining to re-evaluate their stance and are coming to the conclusion that maybe they were a fraction harsh on our new man. It's good to see.

It was both actually.

Apparently Rafa was so hard to work with for some players that they wanted to leave if he was not sacked.

Because of our financial situation we would be unlikely to improve our squad significantly as many of our players wanted. And as a consequence of this they would want to leave.

Maybe we will see some signs of whats happening next week when the world cup is over.
