New Manager - Who would you have? (merged thread)

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Rafael Benitez might only be a few weeks into his tenureship as Inter Milan manager, but he's already planning a shock return to the Premier League to become Manchester City coach.

According to the Daily Star, the wily Spainiard is making plans for a return to England in the near future, despite only arriving in Milan a fortnight ago following six years at Liverpool's helm.

However, Benitez and his family reportedly refer to England as their second home after their spell on Merseyside. In fact, such is there fondness of the north-west that they are yet to sell their luxurious Liverpool home and plan on renting it out while embarking on their latest project.

Benitez has always been a target to take over at Eastlands, and with pressure steadily mounting on current Citizens chief Roberto Mancini to deliver Champions League football, the door could be opened for Benitez to return.

The former Valencia tactician will be expected to have a successful season in Milan, following their treble last season which included lifting both the Scudetto and the Champions League.

Failing to build on last year's performance at the San Siro could result in Benitez returning to England sooner than anticipated.

Anyone saw this today?

Daily Star? It must be nonsense, in fact I am convinced it is a non-story.

Is right !!!

Kenny Dalglish opposes Liverpool appointing Roy Hodgson

Tony Barrett

Kenny Dalglish will consider his future at Liverpool if they appoint Roy Hodgson as manager, with club officials having been made aware that their kingmaker is not supportive of the proposed coronation.

Hodgson, the odds-on favourite to succeed Rafael Benítez, is the favoured candidate of the Anfield hierarchy, despite not having won a trophy in English football. It has even been suggested that his expected move from Fulham could be completed by the end of this week.

But having informed the board of his opinion that he would be the right man for the job, Dalglish, 59, has made it abundantly clear that he feels he is a better candidate for the position than Hodgson, despite his longstanding friendship with the Fulham manager.

Should Liverpool not back Dalglish’s judgment after giving him the task of spearheading their search for a new manager then they will run the risk of making his position untenable, less than a year after he returned to the club in a dual role combining ambassadorial duties with a post at the Liverpool Academy in Kirkby.

Dalglish enjoys immense popular support among the Liverpool fanbase because of his legendary status at the club he served with great success as player and manager.

A Times online survey has indicated that he is the man most Liverpool supporters would like to see replace Benítez, with 57.5 per cent of those who took part in the poll backing Dalglish. Hodgson, by contrast, attracted only 6.5 per cent of the vote, in keeping with the prevailing feeling at the club that he may have succeeded in gaining support from the board, but winning over the supporters is likely to be a more arduous task.

The Fulham manager does have some support in the Anfield dressing room, but it is by no means unanimous. While some see him as a safe pair of hands during a turbulent time in the club’s history and admire the work he did in guiding Fulham to the Europa League final last season, others question his Premier League credentials. From being seen as the unity candidate, a man of dignity who is rarely caught up in controversy, Hodgson has suddenly become a cause of division at Anfield.

Should he accept the position of manager, he will do so in the knowledge that he faces not only a battle to turn around Liverpool’s fortunes, but he will also have to confront the equally significant challenge of proving his doubters wrong.

There is growing concern that his appointment could lack credibility given that it would be made by a Liverpool board led by a chairman, Martin Broughton, who has already revealed that he will leave the club within months should the long search for new owners bear fruit, and a managing director, Christian Purslow, who continues to operate without a long-term contract, having been recruited primarily to attract much-needed investment.

One of the main reasons why Dalglish was invited to head the search for a new manager, alongside Purslow, was to lend the process a credibility it might otherwise have lacked.

Liverpool chiefs pass on Pellegrini  22.06.10

Liverpool have passed on the prospect of Manuel Pellegrini becoming new manager.

The News of the World says chief executive Christian Purslow and Kenny Dalglish had talks with former Real Madrid coach Pellegrini last week.

But they were not hugely impressed by the Chilean, who was replaced at the Bernabeu by Jose Mourinho last month.

Managers i do not want to see from the "list" which is on offer

1. Ericsson (I feel he is just what the owners want and that scares me. A yes man with no morals that will let them rape the club).

2. Martin O'niel (Never really liked him but that is beside the point, average at best)

3. Hodgeson ( I think an honest man but average at best)

4. Pelligrini (never really impressed me and i cannot spell his name)

5. Rednapp (as crooked as a three pound note, just ask Portsmouth)

It has to be Kenny for me barring a superstar manager. If we are going to go through tough times, I'd rather a face I know, that lives for the club. I can identify with Kenny and do not buy into this "been away from the game for too long" cr@p as he is probably refreshed and a lot wiser.

Side note- If we lose Masch, Torres and Gerrard we will have no more good songs left, and that will really be sad.

Liverpool are desperate to tie up a deal to bring Fulham manager Roy Hodgson to the club as their new manager before England's key World Cup game against Slovenia on Wednesday, according to a report from The Guardian.

However, that move may signal the end of Kenny Dalglish's involvement with the club, as the Scot apparently does not see Hodgson as the man to take the Reds forward at a vital point in their history.

Dalglish, who apparently enjoys a friendly relationship with Hodgson, is known to want the Anfield manager's job himself as he does not believe that there are any better qualified candidates around.

Currently employed as a club ambassador, in a role which also allows him input into the club's youth academy, it is felt Daglish may decide to leave the club altogether should Hodgson be appointed.

Hodgson himself is aware of his likely transfer budget at Anfield but is also a reported priority target for England should the Three Lions fail to reach the second round the World Cup and current coach Fabio Capello resign from his post.

With England's make or break game against Slovenia on Wednesday, Hodgson is understood to want to wait and see what transpires with the national side before making a firm commitment to Liverpool.

Im absolutely p.issed off with this!  not only have we lost Rafa, but looks like we may be on the verge of losing Kenny now too.

And the funniest part is... Roy Hodgson is apparently waiting on a better offer to come along!!!

Most Liverpool fans don't even want this guy near Liverpool and it sounds like he'd prefer the England job anyways.

Disgrace of a board we have.

Surely Roy Hodgeson won't take the Liverpool job if he knows 90 per cent of the fans don't want him as manager.

We're pretty screwed at the moment so why not just take a chance on some young manager who's hungry...

I think sometimes players are over trained / too much tactics and consequently never play to their full abilities/ i love frank ribery cause I feel he plays football like a 15 year old TOTAL FOOTBALL.I realise the need for tactics  but I do feel certain managers don't get the best out of players.............I want a manager who wants us to play good exciting football. Whoever that is .

But im starting to prepare myself for life after Rafa, kenny, Masch, Stevie and Torres
