we have 20 million to spend right now

would you sign mascherano for 18 million or a creative genius type like aimar or van der vaat?

i believe a creative midfielder with guile is the only way we move forward as a team

in a perfect world we sign them all but i think the americans aint that generous

That is a much more sensible point than saying Carragher could do Masherano's job, he couldn't.

I've long said that given our financial situation, we've got too many central midfielders. We've just sold one for 8 million quid (and by common consent he was number five in the pecking order) and meanwhile we ain't a got a second striker or a winger worthy of mention. It's daft and the squad is lopsided.

Step one to addressing that is getting Gerrard back out into the position where he is the best in the World bar none, and letting Lucas, Masherano and Alonso fight it out for the two central midfield spots (or alternatively let them take it in turns which is our normal method). Then flog off eitheror both of Benayoun and Pennant (keep Benayoun out of the two if we must) and then move on from there.

gerrard midfield right is the best solution i know

i just think gerrard believes he is better in centre mid

he needs to take one for the team while we still have rubbish wide players

Me? I'd sign Mascher for £17m, and Aimar for £3m.

Failing that, Riquelme is available for next to nothing.

Forget Aimar.  His past it. Riquelme would be nice but Rafa wouldnt have a player like that in his side.  Also His back at Boca now and v happy as well.  Van Der Vaat is a player I would love.  His got bags of talent!!

I'd say that is about the best thing right now for the team as well mate.
Alonso,Gerrard and Mascherano are 3 of our best and most important players available,we need our best players on the pitch.
I also feel Alonso needs games dseperately at the minute to regain form.
If Gerrard cares and he should,he would be happy to play on the right. Its not as if he is going to be stuck to the by line, given the opportunity he can cut into the middle and do what he does best as he has proven before from the right.

I just feel it wont happen though becasue the manager does not want to unsettle the captain and cause friction.

Kinda funny that we are back to this after the endless whining about Gerrard in the middle from fans and media.

It's a cracking price, seeing as though he's arguably a worse player leaving than he was when he first arrived. :D

Good luck to him - on his day an awesome player. I'll definitely keep an eye on the Juve match reports to see how he gets on.
