New Manager - Who would you have? (merged thread)

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I would be happy with pellegrini.  Expansive football is what he delivers.

He didnt spend a fortune at Real.  The club decided to buy Kaka, Ronaldo and Benzema whether Pellegrini liked it or not.  He didnt want to sell Robben either but again the club made that decision.  He did a good job last season and I would be shocked if Jose wins as many games as he did.  He lost the title to an amazing barcelona side.

His Villareal team was fantastic and has experience of managing a huge south american club.   I think it would be a v good appointment.

Get him in quickly and hopefully he could get Riqueleme in as well!!

Liverpool talk to Manuel Pellegrini over vacant manager's job• Kenny Dalglish meets former Real Madrid coach
• Roy Hodgson remains favourite to take over at Anfield

Andy Hunter The Guardian, Friday 18 June 2010

The former Real Madrid coach, Manuel Pellegrini, has been in talks with Liverpool over their managerial vacancy.
Manuel Pellegrini, the former Real Madrid coach, has held talks with Kenny Dalglish over the managerial vacancy at Liverpool despite Roy Hodgson remaining the club's preferred candidate to succeed Rafael Benítez at Anfield.

Pellegrini was dismissed by Real last month for failing to deliver in the Champions League or beat Barcelona to the title, although he did produce a club record 96 points during his one and only season at the Bernabéu. The Chilean's agent last night denied reports that the 56-year-old met Dalglish at Heathrow airport but Pellegrini was in England yesterday and did meet the Liverpool legend who is overseeing the search for Benítez's replacement alongside the managing director, Christian Purslow. Dalglish has told the Liverpool board that he would like the job in the absence of any superior candidates.

Negotiations with Pellegrini, who worked with the Liverpool goalkeeperJosé Reina during a successful five-year spell in charge of Villarreal, reveal that Anfield officials are working through a short-list of candidates to succeed Benítez, although it is understood Hodgson remains top of that list. The Fulham manager has yet to receive an official approach from Liverpool and last night reaffirmed his contentment at Craven Cottage from South Africa, where he is commentating for the BBC.

Asked about Liverpool's interest, Hodgson said: "I'm happy at Fulham. It is all speculation and I can't enlighten you. I don't know any more than you do." An official move for Hodgson from Liverpool is anticipated next week, however.

Id be made up if we got him. just made up, Worked with Pepe and all. Ony good things have been said about him from my friends in Madrid. Some of them players they signed last season the likes of Kaka , he didnt even want. And could get the best out of players on a shoestring budget, (well they said it in different words) but the fans liked him at Madrid and so did a lot of the players.
If Kenny is talking to the likes of him  then ill be happy

If Dagger thinks Pellegrini is our man then I trust him and they are clearly taking their time and talking to everyone that is interested in the job. I imagine one or two may still be in South Africa as well. They have to look into all the options but for me going down a route with a Chilean manager that has no Premiership experience and has only managed two European clubs failing in one is not the route for us right now. I assume our Spanish contingent would be happy at his arrival but aside from that I fail to see why this man is more qualified and ticks more boxes than a fella like Hodgson.

my mate got a chance to meet Roy lats night in SA (BBC LIVE GAME)
off screen Roy said he did not know what was going on with the liverpool job, but then gave a smile.
AH seems to know what is going on but will not say nothing but he and Roy spent some time talking after the game.

in my view he not too bad for the job as he knows the english game very well but i fear when it comes to the bigger games.

untill last night my mate was under the view that Kenny was going to get the job, but he not not sure.

yer thanks for that.

Its my mates last job with the BBC before moving on, he has done the last 2 world cups with the BBC and the last few years on MOTD.

Roy would bring some good things to the club, I also think that the players will get on with him, the problem is dop the players think they are getting Kenny? and then bang...they get Roy........will it upset them so much they would leave?

also could a club that is in so much debt like ours turn down bids of 65mil for players?
say Torres 65mil
SG 35mil
say two more players 15mil each.

could any club turn down that sort of money?
a chance to halve the debt in one go?

This is a disgrace IF Roy gets the job.  The majority of fans clearly want someone like Kenny or Pellegrini.
Looks like once again we wont be getting what we want.
The first 5 games of the season are VERY tough and if Roy cant handle it... people will be very upset with him quickly.

why is it disgrace IF Roy gets the job?

lets look at the facts....how many real games has kenny won over the last few years?

it is a good point that some are making that Kenny has not done the job for years.

yes i would love him to be our manager again but i think it should only be to bed the new manager in.
Kenny should only get the job if he is going to have someone like JC to teach the job to.

we need a fire fighter manager right now and thats what ROY is.

I am not saying he is the best person for the job but he fits what we need right now.
