New Manager - Who would you have? (merged thread)

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

If Kenny wants it, I'd give it to him. Either a one year contract, extended if he finishes top four or situation reassessed if he doesn't, OR a two year contract up for review after two years. I would insert a clause saying either party can terminate the agreement at any time with two months notice in lieu of compensation.

I'd rather the decision maker(s) assess someone like Woy than react to his Euro Disney "achievement". In two seasons he had a decent finish of 7th followed by midtable mediocrity of 12th when you'd hope for progress, or at least not to drop more than two places (allowing for Citeh and spudz doing better). And in the cups he had a run in the EDL in ONE season and facing sides up to and including the final who finished no higher than SEVENTH in their domestic league. He needs to prove he can make his teams overachieve, I would say last season he didn't. It is only that noone expected ANYTHING from Fulham in Europe that we're thinking his team overachieved, reaching a final is ok but then why not mention Avram Grant (now unavailable) or smeegel who both reached the FA Cup final and lost to abetter side than Fulham did?!?!? If you believe anything the bitters claim then smeegel manages good finishes with a small squad, no money or spending and with injuries blighting the squad every minute of every season. Their last four seasons have ended 6th, 5th, 5th, 8th which is more consistent than Fulham although Fulham don't spend as much as the bitters - if you believe bitters, they don't ever pay fees for players and their squad cost the least of all Premiership clubs, they never quote that teams like Burnley pay like £4m for their entire squad and that, if you order the Premiership by cost of squad, they would be only one place lower than they finished last season (Sunderland being the team spending more than them yet finishing lower)

DISCLAIMER : I am not advocating we go for smeegel, just pointing out that his CV is comparable with Woy yet Woy seems to be man of the moment. As if a bitter managing us is an incredibly likely or attractive an option

To be fair to hodgson he didnt do as well in the league this season but playing euro footy right to the final would have taken its toll on their league campagn, without that we could have ended up in eighth. :D

Hope this is true.

Al Fayed: Hodgson will turn down Liverpool - Exclusive

The battle for Roy Hodgson’s services is about to hot up.

Liverpool are on the brink of making an official approach for the Fulham boss.

Although it is unlikely Fulham owner Mohamed Al Fayed would try to stand in Hodgson’s way if the Reds come calling, the Craven Cottage supremo is confident that his manager is likely to reject a move to Anfield.

Al Fayed said: “I don’t think he’ll leave me. I’m sure he’ll have lots of approaches from other clubs, but I give him anything he wants to reach results and we have a very good *relationship.”

Despite increasing speculation that Hodgson is Liverpool’s No.1 target, no official *approach has yet been made.

In fact, at the recent Premier League summer AGM there was no formal or informal discussions about Hodgson by the two clubs.

Under the terms of Hodgson’s rolling one-year contract, Liverpool will only be required to find around £2million in compensation to secure his signature.

But a senior Fulham source said last night: “Roy’s his own man and if an approach was forthcoming I’m sure he will sit down and evaluate the situation. He is very private and keeps his own counsel, so you can never second guess what he’s going to do.

“However, the indications are it would take something extraordinary to convince him to leave Fulham and I’m not sure given all the documented financial problems at Liverpool he’d see that as ideal move.

“Roy has an incredibly good relationship with the owner as well.

“Given that he is pressing ahead with player recruitment for the new season, I’m not sure that is an indication he is planning to leave.”

You reckon Zara? I think he knows he would only be a short term solution until we are sold - a caretaker manager even. Plus the thought of working under the current ownership would put him off anyway.

Roy Hodgson expected to snub Liverpool FC manager offer by Richard Buxton. Published Sun 13 Jun 2010 11:54, Last updated: 2010-06-13
Kenny Dalglish is now favourite to be installed as Liverpool's next manager  Mohamed Al-Fayed expects Roy Hodgson to snub Liverpool's overtures to become their next manager.

Fulham's owner responded to claims that his boss will leave Craven Cottage after a remarkable three years which has seen the club transformed from relegation battlers to the continent's surprise package by reaching last season's Europa League final.

Liverpool are planning to make there interest in Hodgson succeeding Rafael Benitez known before he jets out to South Africa to fulfil his role as one of the studio pundits for the BBC's World Cup coverage

But former Harrods supremo Al-Fayed is confident that the 62-year-old will be in charge of the West Londoners at the start of next season.

He said: "I don't think he'll leave me.

"I'm sure he'll have lots of approaches from other clubs, but I give him anything he wants to reach results and we have a very good relationship."

A Craven Cottage source also revealed that any offer from Anfield would have to be significant to prise former Inter Milan coach Hodgson away from the club, especially with Liverpool's restrictive debts offering little or no transfer funds to spend this summer.

The source said: "Roy's his own man and if an approach was forthcoming I'm sure he will sit down and evaluate the situation. He is very private and keeps his own counsel, so you can never second guess what he's going to do.

"However, the indications are it would take something extraordinary to convince him to leave Fulham and I'm not sure given all the documented financial problems at Liverpool he'd see that as ideal move.

"Roy has an incredibly good relationship with the owner as well. Given that he is pressing ahead with player recruitment for the new season, I'm not sure that is an indication he is planning to leave."

Hodgson's rejection of the role would see Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish running unopposed for the vacant hot seat which he sensationally quit in February 1991, ending a 14-year association with the club as both player and manager.

One of the Scot's first tasks will be to convince several key first-team players not to follow Benitez out the Anfield exit door, with captain Steven Gerrard rumoured to be considering his options as the club's long-term future faces continuing uncertainty.

But the 30-year-old has refused to discuss club matters until he returns from the World Cup, and was quick to rally round Robert Green after the England goalkeeper fumbled a Clint Dempsey shot into his own net to draw the USA level in their opening game in Rustenburg.

"It was one of those freak things," he said.

"We need to get behind Robert and support him. I'm sure he'll make an important save further down the line for us.

"Robert's a man, I am sure he'll learn from this and go from strength to strength. He might get a important save for us that wins us a match, so we're all behind him."

****************

Bad news is that we are in such a cr@p state that Hodgson does not want to manage us, the good news is Kenny does!

lets face it its going to be hard to convince any manager to work under the conditions Benitez had too, whoever they approuch will probably contact Benitez anyway to find out exactly whats going on inside the club, i know i would.

i reckon Kenny will probably get it untill the ownership issue is sorted.

I reckon he hasn't even been asked, he know he won't be, but all publicity is good publicity

What she said.

I was talking to a lad today and i tend to agree with what he had to say, The longer we leave getting in a new manager the better fot them two, NO MONEY TO FORK OUT, No new players are gonna be signed without a new manager . NO MONEY TO FORK OUT, our top payers dont know who will be there boss and there all out of the country anyway playing for there national sides , So these two and there mates Martin and Christie can run a fecking mock, The Europa qualifying starts for us next month, players names have to be put in to EUFA. The world cup has come at the right time for these four. Players contracts need sorting , . Watch us get a new boss just before we start to play in Europe, Leaving no time for any money to be spent, Not that we have any like ,

I expect our new manager to make the best out of a bad situation. If there is no money for transfers then the manager should turn to our youth and blood them in.

I only wanna see kids brought in if they are good enough.  picking them just for the sake of it will be a waste of time

Sorry to butt into the conversation, I realize you guys all contribute regularly to debate.

It seems the consensus of opinion is that we don't want Roy Hodgson. I also understand the issues with Mark Hughes, and David Moyes (not that I think he'd consider it).  That said how strong a position do people really think we're in ?  We might be the club with the greatest history in the British game, but to say that you are only as good as your last game really sums us up.  While Kenny is an undisputed legend, given his time away from management and the way in which he has exited clubs, I wonder how much better we could do if we weren't in such a desperate financial position ?

The Daglish/Lee combination harks back to the days of the back to the good old days of the "boot room", but how much has the game moved on since then, and are we also replacing all of Rafa's backroom staff ? Given the current lack of depth, and the expense of English players, will the lack of continental contacts hurt us when trying to unearth bargains in foreign leagues (discounting any chance of major signings). The best we could hope for is the return of a production line of youth players, but this is the height of optimism.

All in all I don't see that we have many other options, but if anyone can think of any, I'd be interested to know what they think.
