Scapegoats, by their nature are exactly that, one person or group of people wrogly held responsible as the public figure of the failure of one or more people or persons.

People who sit by me at the game and moan at the same people time and again get right on my ti.ts.

Sometimes its better to keep quiet and be thought a fool, rather than speak and confirm it. I think you may have done better staying quiet mate.  :D

There are certain players that always get more stick than others. Some deservedly, like Gonzalez, Cisse, Nuñez, others not that much. But when they're gone there still seems be the need to find new scapegoats.

Crouch doesn't deserve to be one, that's for sure.

You're right in as much as saying Crouch is near useless would be stating facts and not scapegoating at all !

While i can see this thread is a bit tongue and cheek, it is actually one of the better ones and makes sense.
Everyone needs a scapegoat.
Its obvious Saturdays in a lot of people eyes is Crouch, which has really disappointed me to be honest.
He has looked poor but has been poorly treated for almost a full season now despite being our top scorer last season- (and unlike Cisse when he scored his goals- a team player)

I'll go one step further and nominate Pepe Reina. Isn't he supposed to be some kind of expert at saving penalties ???  Well, in our first five games he has only saved one - that's right ONE - lousy penalty out of three. Just not good enough, if we want to win the title. I say bring on Itandje, he can't be any worse than that Reina fellow. I know he has kept an awful lot of clean sheets during his time here, but that is ONLY due to great defending, and he has absolutely NOTHING to do with this. Worst keeper ever.

Fortunately it hasn't really cost us tonight, but in a bigger game it might. He got himself pretty wound up against Chelsea and could easily have got himself sent off and tonight was ana ccident waiting to happen really. Hopefully, Benayoun comes into the team and proves me totally wrong, and Pennant gets plenty of time to sit on his erse and contemplate his navel. I don't think it's beyond him to learn, but he'd better be getting on with it sharpish.

Pennant has been getting wounded up ever since the opening game against Villa.
