So Effes..... Good day out? I bet it was class the Kop in full voice and the team playin decent football and brushing aside the 5th best team in th country with as much ease as we did both Madrid and Scum. So was Masch great again? You can appreciate him so much more live? He didn't realy get mentioned tday because off Gerrard, Reira and Kuyt but he looked class agsin to me...

Im just buzzin for my daughter, it's been a while since Ive been able to take her to the game.

We needed an early goal... and got 3 !  :wwww

Everyone was great; a very rare thing but Torres probably had a worse game than anyone.
Just a bad day for him I guess.

You could tell Riera was up for it from the off - best game he's had in a while.

I though Arbeloa was outstanding; he's gonna be vital in our run-in.

I don't know why he's not posting but maybe some of us including me were a bit harsh with him and he's probably taking a lil rest, I did something similar too at some point.

After some days he'll be less angry, and he'll come back here to enjoy these victories.

If he doesn't, I'll be forced to post in the rotation thread about the nuclear delayed gazelle , but I'll only use that as a last resort.

A second phenomenal weekend of football in a row and we're back in this thing!  So proud of the lads today.  They came out of the traps focused and relentless got the vital first goal (nice one Dirk!), held off the Villa pressure well and put the game to bed when the opportunity came.  Professional, professional display to get us right back to breathing down the Mancs' necks.  Only downer is this two week lay off...it always seems to happen to us that these things crop up when we're flying.  Hope we don't go off the boil.

Some honourable mentions today on a day when another consummate team performance brought the points home.  Riera was a much improved performer this week.  I don't know who said what after last week's performance but he was playing like a lad with something to prove.  He asked all the right questions of the Villa defenders, tracked back well, took a superb goal with aplomb when Villa were looking to find their feet and won as the penalty that put the game beyond reach.  Well done son! :nod

I thought Reina was also immense today.  He too had a bit of a dodgy one at Old Trafford last week but he was back in full command this week.  The brace of saves he made against Carew with the score at 1-0 were absolutely vital.  Had we conceded the game would have taken on a much different complexion, as Carew was proving a real handful for Skrtel and Carra.  He then goes and sets up the all-important second goal with another fantastic piece of distribution.

I thought Kuyt had a good game all-around.  His goal was very well taken indeed and his approach play, while not always silky, was progressive and incisive.  He did very well to earn the free kick for our fourth and he generally looked the part in a fluid attacking unit--shades of the Newcastle game in that regard.  He did have his usual quota of heavy touches and back passes but, by and large, he's showing why he deserves a place in the side.

I thought Masch absolutely bossed the midfield today and it's fantastic to see him back to his best.  Torres had a poor game by his high standards but even when that happens, his pace and movement scare the bejesus out of defenders and he makes things happen.  Riera got a lot of freedom to operate today because of Torres and, of course, he did ever so well to win the 2nd penalty.

All in all, we looked like a team that's found another couple of gears in the last few weeks and we're starting to see fantastic performances all over the pitch.  Gerrard and Torres continue to be the nucleus of our great play but the supporting players are now starting to do their bit: from Benayoun a few weeks back, to Aurelio and Dossena last week and Riera and Kuyt today.  Let's hope this purple patch continues! :blues:

No mention of Arbeloa Bob?

I though he was contender for Man of the Match.

My dad took me to the Aston Villa game when we socred 3 in 17minutes. Im 21... so work out how old I was.. Ican't remember. I said to my old man that I bet we score 5/6 after scoring 3 so early but the second half was a bore fest. I'll remember if for ever tho, great day out we were out stood right at the back of The Kop. Robbie was my idol back then so was a great game for me as a youngster sure today will stay with your daughter for a long time... Well done Dad lol

Yeh Arbeloa made things click down the right, him and Kuyt have got working realy well together. Wasn't that long ago our problem areas were the full back positions but look at Arbeloa and Aurelio now. Things are realy clicking into place.

I remember that one mate.

Me and a couple of mates stumbled out of a pub near town 30 mins before kick off and there wasn't a taxi to be seen.

We did a mad jog to the ground.

The pace got to me though, had to have a breather before my heart exploded. Missed the first goal.

Fowler's goal that day was one of his best.

Nearly forgot, mate...too many good performances to mention.  He didn't look like a lad coming back from injury did he?  Bombed on well and didn't give Young a sniff all game.  Pity about his decision making after the Friedel gift, though! :D

i had to second glance durin the second half that Carra hadn't gone for a bevvy. Reina was indeed back to his best, the instinctive save from carew first half was excellent. and how quick is his distribution? fair play for the assist for Riera but otherwise as well. i wonder how Dudek felt the other week watchin him, and then Friedel again today comin back and bein destroyed.

Time for a beer and some reflection methinx, been a great coupla weex, and the rollercoaster's only jus climbin the hill...... so lookin forward to the ride to come.
