I think we should win this one as long as the players don't let the pressure of having to win get to them again. It is a must win game (how many times have we said that this season :(  ) and I think we will win 3-0 Torres and Gerrard are on fire and we have Dossena if we need a spectacular goal.

                      Reina

Arbeloa       Carra     Hyypia      Aurelio

Kuyt         Alonso     Masch      Babel

                      Gerrard
                         Torres

If Carew or Heskey play we will need Hyypia at the back, because Villa are experts at the long ball game, and I think Babel may cause a few more problems than Riera.

Hi Guys,

When does the team lineup get named?

I'm from Australia and am a passionate follower of Aussie Rules (its our off season now) and the team gets named on the Thursday night before the game on Saturday.

I've tried to check the lineup on the net, but can never find anything until minutes before the game.

Does it get named? Or does everyone else just find out the lineup moments before the game while watching on TV?

Cheers.

We usually find out the team about 1 hour before kick off. If you come on here about 3 o'clock tomorrow the team will be posted.

Good results yesterday for us.

Hopefully Rafa gets into the players ears that they should not be worried about having to win SIMPLY BECAUSE the other 2 slipped up. Keep a cool head boys. We've always said that we need to win every one of our remaining premiership games. Today is just another one. Doesn't matter what the Mancs and Chelsea did yesterday. Focus on the fact that we must win and do what is needful. We have the quality and Aston Villa  are 3 points behind Arsenal. They can't afford to park the bus if they still harbour ambitions of Champions League football next year. They have to go for it. They, more or less, have already sewn up a place in Europe next year. So if they don't push for it, then they have nothing left to aim for this season. And that hopefully, will open up the game a little more.

C'mon Lads!!!!

                       Reina

Arbeloa     Carra           Hyypia   Aurelio

Benayoun  Mascherano  Alonso   Reira

                        Gerrard

                      Torres

Ok. I am very hopeful we can win this Match today against Villa, and if we win it by 2+ goals we really shave the goal difference to a negligible amount between us and the filth.

So if we win, we are breathing down there necks and with all there suspensions & that nice injury to Berbatov, they could very well be at breaking point. BUT.........

.....And here's the Thing, If we somehow fail to win against A Villa (unlikely as I started the thread :) ), It will be the shot in the arm to revitalize them and put them back on form. Right now, Utd's wheels are coming off, and we must keep them off with a fine performance by beating Villa. So hopefully we can make it count and hopefully help to deny those little spoilt bast.ards there 18th leveling title they so desperately want.

Attack attack attack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Arbeloa has been training, so hopefully he will be fit. Alonso and Benayoun have had a light training session, so we will see tomorrow."

Arbeloa back in the team is real important. Sooo worried about the iffyness of Alonso and Yossi's fitness. I think we can get away with Yossi on the bench but I think we really need Alonso fit. With a lack of other effective options in attack, moving Gerrard back in midfield is not really an option, and would mean Lucas would have to play. I am probably one of the more optimistic posters when it comes to Lucas, and even I would say at best, him playing would be a "hit or miss" affair.

And I agree with S@ints idea on starting with Babel

I guess we could try Dossena or Riera on the left with Babel up front with Torres and Gerrard and Mascherano in the center of midfield, but that feels a bit choppy and changy to me.

He should start them all now :D Instant ban for anyone else starting one should be made forum rule #1

I've said elsewhere I reckon we should have a matchday subforum, makes a lot of sense. You can find old matchday threads quicker, no doubts if someone has already started one and any members arguing and abusive regularly in these threads can simply be denied access to that section.

Must win game, the difference between us and the mancs this season (and why we're playing catch-up)

2008/09 Home Form

Man Utd P14 W12 D1 L1 PTS 37
Liverpool P14 W8 D6 L0 PTS 30

Our away record is one win better/three points. The most home wins we can manage is 13, only twice have the Premiership champions won by winning less than 14 home games - Arsenal unbeaten in 03/04 and the mancs in 96/97. I think the chances are the mancs may not lose at home again, I think we most certainly can't afford to drop any more points at Anfield. A win today might put a little bit of pressure on them, when rivals lose the pressure is still on to win (something Chelsea didn't make most of)

Not sure whether havin our last game of the season at home is an advantage or not, but today needs to be the start of a winnin - not an unbeaten - run. We need to get back to fortress Anfield an make teams wary of jus seein the TIA sign never mind the pitch/crowd/team/atmosphere etc. Villa aint havin too much luck at the minute, hope that holds today too. They can have an upturn in their next game....... :p

AGain as said, its a must win game - i'll honestly eat my hat if we win this title, I said it was gone ages ago (but i love being proved wrong!!!)

I think it will be quite comfortable today, Watched a few villa games in the last couple of weeks and compared to the start of the season, they look REALLY tired, still a decent team though, expect a fair whack of defense, long ball and balls behind for Agbonlahor - it will defo be them hitting us on the break, Hypia will be needed I feel, however could also be the weakness if young or Agbonlahor get aside him.

Comon reds lets prove these FACTS!

Im less worried about who is gonna be at centre back - it's right back that concerns me.

That Ashley Young is a real threat, I think he could be all over Carra if Arbeloa isn't fit enough to start.

Benny is not fit, not even for sitting on the bench. Any news on Alonso? We desperatly need him tonight IMO. And again: only a win is acceptable!
