Emerald it's just as interesting to me how not one of you (hate to use pro/anti terminology) seems to EVER be willing to acknowledge any of the mistakes (see below) Rafa has made over the course of this season. It's like you (and a few others) are happy to gloss over them NO MATTER WHAT. Yesterday's substitution of Torres is a prime example. Depsite the exasperation on the faces of our two best players, despite the fact we drew a game we desperately needed to win and despite the fact it was Torres's replacement (Ngog) who missed three golden chances, I still have to read how 'we played much better once the sub was made', and 'Torres body language was all wrong from the start'.

Forget the owners and the money and the other stuff you would normally shift the debate towards for a moment. I'm not belittling them but I'd love it if you (and Benny, Lando + anyone else who still feels Rafa is the man for the job) would please address the following areas in debate. To be honest I think the failure to even acknowledge Rafa's failings in terms of selection of personnel (based on what he has), tactics on match days, substitutions and perhaps most of all, our depressing style of football this season by some of the posters on this board is as much to blame for the arguments that go on as anything else you could point your finger at.

1/ Rafa's substitutions. Always so late in the game, often he has failed to use them all in matches this season despite the fact we have desperately needed to win them. How many times has he brought on a skill player with 6-7 minutes left in a game we need to win? I mean what's the point? It's nonsensical at times.

2/ Sticking with players who are so clearly struggling for form. Usual suspects Lucas, Insua and Kuyt spring to mind but Ngog played a long stretch this season as an impotent replacement for Torres while Babel sat on the bench chewing his finger nails.

3/ A complete reluctance to try something different. We've plodded on ALL SEASON with the same ideas. The two defensive midfielders, playing Gerrard in the hole despite the fact it only seems to work for him there when TORRES IS PLAYING AHEAD OF HIM. Playing one up front 95% of the time when we are struggling to score goals, unwilling to give a youngster like Pachecho a game when all else seems to be failing.

4/ Injuries - This one does my head in the most. Please comment on the injury problems suffered by our rivals this season. The mancs played a Champions League game earlier this season with no centre-halves (they won the game 3-0), they have lost Vidic and Ferdinand for much pretty much a whole season between them, Hargreaves hasn't played, Rafael has struggled and Owen is lost for the season + Van De Sar has missed chunks. Arsenal have just lost Gallas and Fabregas (who has been in and out all year), Van Persie has missed most of the year, Eduardo has been out, Rosicky has missed time, same goes Almunia and there only fit forward for a few weeks was Arshavin, they have been so desperate Sol Campbell has been playing centre-half! Chelsea have lost Essien for the season, had the African Nations Cup to contend with, Carvallho has missed time, Ashley Cole is out and Joe Cole hasn't been on it all year. TELL ME OUR SITUATION HAS BEEN ANY WORSE THAN ANYBODY ELSE'S. IT HASN'T.

5/ Last point. Aquilani. Need I say anymore.

Scott this is a brilliant post mate, and you are absolutely on the money with your assertion that the refusal of some parties to accept even the glaringly obvious has destroyed the board as a decent way to spend a few minutes. Not only will some of them not accept what is as plain as the nose on their face, but they abuse people while they're denying it.

All your points are salient, but I definately wouldn't hold your breath on getting any answers or any concessions. I sense some frustration in your posts. You'll get used to it are the only words of comfort I can offer  .

Have to agree with Mick here, something I have been doing a lot of lately.

It's a brutal but honest assessment of the situation. The thing is me personally I keep thinking things will turn around any day now. I look back to nights like Istanbul thinking it will sort itself out soon.

Don't get me wrong there needs to be changes in the boardroom as well for us to move forward but I think it's time for a change.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

There are no guarantees in football mate, just ask Rafa about his!

You make your choice based on what you see, I see a team that is playing poorly with no heart and no spirit for a large part of the season, with players baffled and bewildered by the managers decisions, £20million pound players sat on the bench with questions being asked about their mental state, a team that couldn't beat Reading in two goes, that has only won 4 away games all season scoring only 14 goals (less than Wigan), struggling to get 4th place.

I could go on but I am only wasting my breath. No guarantees mate, but a little bit of hope is better than NONE.

It was a very good post but you destroyed it by accusing the people who support Rafa of destroying the board - i think maybe you should take a look in the mirror on the odd occasions and have a little look at yourself and the way you post towards people as a pointer towards why things havent been great on here lately .

Your being as bad as the people your accusing

Hence why i think Rafa should be given next season to turn it around . Before this season we were on track - IMO we had a blip and now we need to recover - for me we dont just bin the manager after one poor season - we gotta give him the chance .

Just my opinion off ocurse

in the last week it has come to lightthat he has a 120mil rider on any contract,  the rider is that he has 120mil to spend building the team that he likes.........we cannot give him that and the only team that can is Man City.

so i think he has now put himself out of the frame for the job, untill that come out the word was he was our next manager.

So provide concrete evidence to back up claims inside of gossip which has no backing whatsoever and then posting it like its gospel

Face it, theres extreme stress at Anfield at the moment, the seasons been a nightmare, the CL was an embarrassment and the FA cup didnt exist.

The players feel it as much as the manager, as much as the fans.

And you judge Rafa on a 5 second video of SG scratching his head? Bl**dy´ell Woof I had you down as someone with more bottle than that! Only S@int does trial by YouTube.

The season has been a pig, get it finished and world cup out the way with hopefully one of our sides represented picking up the cup and see the change in the changing room after a rest. And Rafa reassured by new owners and able to bring in a couple of new faces etc..

We´ll be off to the races again and leading contenders from the off.

The hardest part of the season is the run in when you´re trying to catch up and throwing away points, but dont react like getting 3 points should be mechanical or you´ll end up repeating the other shíte these lads say like 'the UEFA Cup means nothing'.

Its a football club where things DO go wrong, every season doesnt end with Roy of the Rovers scoring the winner in the  last minute, no, its a game of hard work with a large slice of luck.

Sacking Rafa is not the magic solution to solving our clubs problems.

And you judge Rafa on a 5 second video of SG scratching his head? Bl**dy´ell Woof I had you down as someone with more bottle than that!

???

Judge Rafa on a five second video ? More bottle ? What the f'uck are you on about ?

Cards on the table, over the years we've ALL (and that includes you) have been baffled and p'issed off with some of Rafa's at times bizarre decisions. Many of us however despite our misgivings have stuck by him.

I'm not judging Rafa on a "five second video". As much as some of us have tried to brush it under the carpet the question of how much some of the players are in "tune" with Rafa's tactics has been a question that for some years now has been raised time and again in this forum.

The sight of Gerrard publicly scratching his head at Rafa's decision to substitute Torres speaks volumes. For me Gerrards head scratching goes far deeper than just a reaction to the actual substitution, imo it's a sign that Gerrard (and probably many others) are (and have been for some time) exasperated with many of Rafa's decisions.

With this in mind, I don't believe that Gerrard or Torres will want to spend the next couple of seasons under Rafa,

disclaimer. I have to evidence to support this belief, just call it a gut feeling .

i was talking to some mates at a pary at the weekend all had very mixed views on Rafa (i was the only liverpool fan there) most say he is a good manager but looking back over the years they all felt that he has bnot done as much at the club that he should have done, even more so when they looked at the amount he has spent and the amount of players he has tsaken to the club.
