From Skysports

Kuyt rejects criticism

Dutchman happy with his form

Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt has rejected talk that he is having a goalscoring crisis.

The Dutch international has yet to score in open play in the Premier League this season with his only two goals coming from the penalty spot in the victory over Everton.

Kuyt came in for criticism for missing several good chances in the recent draw at Blackburn.

The former Feyenoord man has dismissed criticism of his performances so far this season and says his confidence has not been affected.

No crisis
"I understand the critics, it's logical because I missed three big chances against Blackburn Rovers. People talk about me being in crisis, but I can tell you I do not feel like that," Kuyt told Algemeen Dagblad.

"If you list the players at Liverpool who have shown their best form this season, I would be at the top."

Kuyt also insists he has no problems with Rafa Benitez's much-maligned rotation policy, despite not being involved in Liverpool's last two games

"At Liverpool, we have a rotation system, which can mean you not playing two consecutive games. (Rafa) Benitez believes players need good rest and so he rotates us. I knew this would happen when I signed for Liverpool.

"If we finish the season winning trophies, he will have been proved right. You'll never hear me complaining."

I'm sorry but if he feels he has been playing well, enough to even say that he would be top of the form list then he should never play again! I've never rated him. I think he's absolute rubbish. The only thing he does is run around the pitch like a headless chicken. His is passing is :censored: and so is his shooting.
Back up striker at most for Liverpool.

ok, time for some stats:

League 44 (9) 14 2 0  kuyt
League 45 (5) 14 2 0 Berbatov
League 36 (11) 5 1 0 Shevchenko
League 52 (9) 19 2 0 Adeboyer
League 47 (2) 23 9 0 McCarthy
League 40 (1) 12 4 0 AJ (spit)

so what does this tell us? (the sets of numbers are games played, games played as sub, goals scored, yellow and red cards respectively)

(and i havent added rooney or drogba, we know there stats are a different level, but look at who is there, top strikers for there clubs)

It tells us that Kuyt isn't the useless piece of :censored: that some morons on here are saying. and consider how many games this season hes been 'slightly off' in?

I just think that Kuyt is not that bad, hes actually a pretty decent player, just this season it hasnt worked...yet, but i predict it will.

I agree. This season although im sounding like a stuck record he has suffered from lack of confidence, you can see it each time he misses a shot. So many are jumping on the bandwagon that hes rubbish and shouldnt be here. The people with short memories. I hope he gets back to his best soon if only to shut up the doubters.

He was poor last season despite scoring 12 league goals. This season he is still poor and suffering from lack of confidence. Not good enough is the bottom line, great bloke but unfortunately only a decent striker.

A strikers main job is scoring and making goals, Dirk doesn't do enough of either.

It makes me laugh that people keep trying to prove a point by manipulating the FACTS.

McCarthy   32 goals since joining Blackburn
Berbatov   26 goals since joining Spurs
Kuyt         19 goals since joining Liverpool
Shevchenko17goals since joining Chelsea

Even I can do it. :D

Dawson mate Rooney only scored i think it was 14 last season, one more than Kuyt.

Pointless trying to defend the man. How can you reason with the deaf and blind.

Good player, he is good enough for this club and he will come good.

I'm not jumping on any bandwagon mate. I've always said he wasn't good enough to play for Liverpool. He has a lot of heart and works his :censored: off but he still doesn't cut it. I would always play Crouch and Voronin before him. I would also say that he wouldn't make Arsenal's, Man U's, Chelski's or even Tottenham's squad.

I think this is the problem with forum debate, the over exaggeration on both sides. The truth is Kuyt hasn't been atrocious this season though he has put in one or two atrocious performances.

The reality is he's produced some fairly consistent performances. He's had a handful of good performances, as I said a couple of woeful ones and the rest have been reasonable. Now truth be told that's not good enough for us, however lets not make it out to be more than it is.

I think a lot of what Kuyt does goes unnoticed due to the level of criticism aimed at him. I think his Liverpool career can be summed up perfectly by the Champions League final in Athens. After that game people were criticising him for still not having scored in a CL match - missing the fact he actually scored in that game. Watch back through our games and Kuyt often creates a handful of good chances. Of course it could be argued he should be doing more than that, but in him getting no credit whatsoever for the good things he does actually do (and I'm not just talking working hard) the view that he's been atrocious all season gains weight and becomes the overriding view.
