Ok maybe the prem was to quick for Morientes but a striker is a striker after all.

Its the way we set up a slight tweak to the team I am positive all 4 of our forwards would get plenty of goals.

Ermm mayb but if you looked at chelsea , drogba has been scoring goals for fun where sheva has been sh.ite.It all on the ability to adapt to the fast game of the PL , you need strength speed and a good touch to be that , kuyt has none of them. But seriously I did not know why a players like morientes failed with us , mayb it was too late for him to adapt just like sheva

Before the season started it seemed logical that strikers would have to make their time on the pitch count in order to stay in contention for starting spots, and all three of Crouch, Voronin and Babel did themselves no harm at all against Besiktas.

I genuinely think that Kuyt's a lot better than he's showed since arriving, but on that basis right now he simply doesn't warrant a place in the side. With Torres approaching fitness again, I'd be happy enough if Rafa left Kuyt out entirely and just rotated Torres, Crouch, Voronin and Babel up front. I'm fairly sure that he won't, but in a sane world that would seem to be the obvious way forward until a time occurs where further resources are needed.

To be honest, I wonder what would have happened yesterday had Kuyt figured. Imagine if it had been he and not Babel that had got the two quick goals, for example. Didn't happen though, and by rights I think Kuyt should be bench-warming for a while now.

Unfortunatly I agree ivor. I have defended Kuyt and me agreeing with you will seem hypocritical but he needs to get away from the 1st team for a bit. Go to the reserves and gather some confidence.

As long as hes a Liverpool player he will have my backing, as will every other player for that matter.

I'd love to see torres-babel in front. Hope rafa tries this partnership out... not really a fan of crouch... he did well when he came on for arsenal and now for besiktas... but I'm afraid his lack of pace is unbelieveable... make no mistake I think he's particulalry useful against offensive minded teams like arsenal and chelsea and in europe because european teams rarely has to deal with a player of his stature... but with defended minded teams in england he's almost useless...

A defender can become world class by being a great hard worker and superb determination.

A striker will get nowhere with those attributes as it is not needed. If Carragher was to play as a striker then the comparison would be relevant.

And c'mon, penalties that not even he was the cause for can be taken by anyone and not specifically the strikers role.
It can make a defender look like a goal machine just cause he is the teams penalty taker. Doesn't mean he is cause he can take a penalty!

where is stu when you need him.

Not scoring enough goals and being poor are two different things, and only the former can be levelled at Dirk.

In Kuyts case he's been both Leon.

Or put another way, is there anyone who believes we would have scored more goals the other night if Kuyt had played instead of Crouch or Voronin.

:D Well given we won 8-0 and broke the scoring record in the competition I'm not really sure the question is entirely fair on Dirk Saint, to be totally honest. I'm not sure we'd have scored more than eight if we had Ronaldinio playing down the left and Thierry Henri up with Crouch, but I do take your point all the same.

I think most of us would agree that Kuyt is much better than he is currently showing. So shot is his confidence, yet so desperate is he to succeed that even his most ardent critics must have felt for the man if not the footballer, when he dribbled it into Friedels hands rather than having a shot or passing to Gerrard with any conviction. The pain etched on his face was entirely for real IMHO and I for one hope that at some point, he shows the fans what I suspect he is really capable of. Whether that form is going to be good enough to be a first team regular for a team like Liverpool, and whether it will be sufficient to justify his transfer fee is extremely doubtful IMHO, but whatever, I hope he can look back on his Liverpool career with pride.

We have had many much more talented players in the past who would have gone on to become legends had they had Kuyts ethic. The best thing which could happen to him now is that he is glued to the bench for the forseeable, coming on late in the game when we are ahead so he can chase down the opposition, harrying them to distraction. If he can nick himself a goal or two into the bargain so much the better.

The last time a striker at a big club was villified by his own fans so much was at man Utd. They signed a bloke who couldn't hit a cows erse with an acoustic guitar, hopeless. Funny enough, the only team he could score against was us. Then he won the golden boot in Spain and we nearly bought him. Kuyt is much better than he is showing I'm certain of it.

:D

Don't recall quite the fella you're thinking of, NR, but, to tell the truth--and my apologies to any Germans on this board--but you could put forth several examples of German nationals who's faces could absolutely make a train take a dirt road:

Bastian Schweinsteiger

Oliver Kahn

And, the uber-ponce himself, Michael Ballack
