DIRK KUYT - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I agree with Kharhaz... Kuyt can definitely perform for us...you can see in the first few games this season he formed a very good partnership with torres...and to be honest I haven't seen crouch or voronin form as good a partnership with torres IMO...

There's not doubt he's not performing right now... and I believe this is down to his personality and maybe also the lack of communication between him and rafa rather than his lack of skill...

I think I know what he's going through... He's such a nice guy, a team player, and probably a bit too eager to please the manager... so when benitez keeps saying we need your workrate, we need you to be the first line of defense, or something along those lines, he will do this to a T, he will dot the i's and cross the t's, eventually to the detriment of his goalscoring...

yeah so somehow I blame rafa for the decline of kuyt... he can be too methodical, he seems very detail-oriented, and insist all the time on what he wants during the games... you can see his hand motions showing "stay tight" or "compress" or whatever all the time... benitez needs to step back a little and see if kuyt is following too strictly his orders, tell him "Dirk losen up a little... stay in the box more and score some goals"...the reason of Kuyt's decline right now is that he's too much of a filial son...

This is on a second note:

I dont' know what's with this forum... I find myself having to defend the currently much hated players, the Un-flavour-of the-months, riise and kuyt... the criticism is unbelieveably harsh IMO... I don't mind if these kind of criticisms are directed at players like Diouf, Traore, Zenden, Pellegrino, Nunez, Le Tallec, etc. IMO riise and kuyt are no where near as bad as those lot... Gerrard is playing badly now and he gets nowhere near as much criticism... I don't see how Sissoko (he who can't make a five yard pass) can have more praises than riise and kuyt. And pls don't bother answering to this post cause I already know almost all the cases against riise and kuyt.

I just wanna say you guys are like premiership referees... inconsistent...

I'm disappointed about what Kuyt thinks about himself as being one of the best performers at Liverpool this season. But I think this is down to Rafa. It is well documented that Rafa is into all this computerised player analysis, and he must share this with the players. Rafa has defended Sissoko in the past by referring to this analysis, saying that no-one else ran as much as him during a match etc.
I suspect the analysis goes something like we'd see in PES or FIFA - time played, time with ball, pass %, shots, shots on target etc. If this is the case, then I'm sure Kuyt is one of the top performers. He spends a lot of minutes on the pitch, he sees a lot of the ball, his pass % must be pretty decent and he covers a lot of ground.
It goes to show how misleading statistics are. I'm only speculating this, but if Rafa is relying too much on the data, then he needs a reality check. Strikers are mainly rated on one thing, GOALS. Personally, I think assists go a long way too. Kuyt at the moment is providing neither, and it's a concern that he doesn't see this as a crisis.

Selling Bellamy and keeping Kuyt was a mistake......

We are a title fighting club(at least that is our goal) and when
a 3rd of the season is played your main striker(Kuyt has played much more than anyone alse) has 0 goals from open play it says something.
Added to that fact is that I have seen him play those games, it is no coincidence that he hasn't scored.
That is just not good enough, simple as. And I don't even want to comment on his interview when he made those remarks.

This is not about med hating the guy whatsoever, only his lack of footballing skills.

No thats not what I mean, I mean he is one of those annoying people who gets under everyones skin with comments that are not generally classed as offensive. He gets to that individual through his words and he knows it, its not just me he annoys the hell out of.

Bad Bob wrote:No, what I am saying is that, with respect to the now thousands of minutes Kuyt has played in a Liverpool shirt (42 matches and counting), you've provided us with a Youtube clip that shows 4 odd minutes of highlights.  If I was churlish, I'd ask to see clips of him showing a heavy touch or misplacing passes or missing sitters--you'd have plenty of footage to work with there.  As I actually like Dirk, however, I'll just say that Youtube is simply not a  good barometer of measuring football talent by its very nature.

Youtube or you've been framed? Youtube might have the odd gaffe, but it's hardly likely to have lots of MOTD like montages showing how he had a bad game.
