I can't help think with Agger that people are building him up into something that he isn't in his absense. What he IS, is a really good ball playing centre half who when played alongside a really solid defender, can provide the balance which makes an excellent partnership. What he most definately ISN'T, is a really solid never say die defender himself.

Now anyone who is hoping he can come in and provide a means of the ball moving from the defence up to the attack without the need for 15 passes or it being lost, they'll definately get some of that. He won't on his own be able to mask the inadequacy of the Masherano/Lucas axis, but he will help to disguise it a bit. If on the other hand people are hoping that he'll come in and organise the defence, tighten it all up, throw his body on the line etc etc then they are going to be disappointed as he isn't that sort of player. What we really need at the moment IMHo is either Carragher or Skrtel to actually start defending to the optimimum of their ability.

Chelsea's goals were both too easy. Drogba is good, but he isn't as good as we made him look. A bit more strength, determination and power is/was required. Carragher or Skrtel has to provide it, then Agger can do his stuff.

:D yeah I must admit that made me chuckle as well. If ever you needed an example of a players abilities getting blown out of all proportion while he's not available, here it is  :D .

I don't normally believe in 3 at the back, but I do think we may have to try it if things don't improve shortly. With Carra and especially Skrtel having to cover out wide, we are leaving gaps you could drive a tank through in the middle. We have Insua watching as players run past him into the box to meet crosses, while Johnson chases back 5 minutes too late to be of any assistance.

He might play the full game(s) though mate, as he is Denmarks best defender and they are very important games regarding qualification. The best scenario would of course be him playing and thus gaining vital match fitness without getting injured again. I only hope that's possible :Oo:

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger believes the training ground is a happy place again under new manager Roy Hodgson after previous boss Rafael Benitez's reign came to a disappointing end.

The Reds finished seventh last season, their worst Barclays Premier League placing for more than a decade, and the club and Benitez soon parted.

At the time there were suggestions the Spaniard had managed to alienate a number of his players - having had public fall-outs with Ryan Babel and Albert Riera - but Agger today said they were all together again under the Englishman's stewardship.

"It is a new team, new players, young players, new staff and I think the mentality you can see on people's faces - they are a lot more happy in training sessions," said the Denmark international.

"When you get a new training session, new staff around you, new methods, it gives you more energy somehow.

"Obviously the sessions have to be good in the right way but I think it is really important for a team to be happy to play football.

"For me it is really important I am happy when I play football because I think I can perform better then and I think it is the same for everyone."

When asked if he felt the squad had grown stale under Benitez, the 25-year-old added: "I think we have to look at the future not the past so I don't think it's relevant.

"In every training session we focus on the future, we don't look at the past."

A happier place? Perhaps a slight did at the Benitez regime there but its good to hear that the players have a new spring in their step...lets hope it starts to show starting at Old Trafford on Sunday

I sincerely hope Agger is back in the starting line up in central defence for the best league game. That defensive performance against Utd was dreadful and needs Agger's presence to tighten it up. Skrtel for the chop, hopefully.

Carra is scouse through and through and is the heartbeat of our defence. That said imho Daniel Agger is the best defender we have at the club at this moment in time and his name should be first on the team sheet before ANY other defender imo. I love a defender who can bring the ball out and play it on the floor ala Hansen. He also has a mean left foot when he wants to hit something. Please Roy, drop skrtel for a couple of games, and give danny agger the chance he needs to cement his place next to Jamie.

Aggers happiness lasted long didnt it oh hang on......

Daniel Agger has admitted that he is frustrated by Roy Hodgson’s style of play at Liverpool.

The attack-minded defender will be eager to forget his brief cameo at Old Trafford yesterday after failing to prevent the cross that led to Dimitar Berbatov’s winning goal just two minutes after he had replaced Paul Konchesky at left-back.

Agger, who was also left out of the starting line-up against Birmingham City last weekend, has lifted the lid on his frustrations behind Hodgson’s approach to games and has refused to alter his natural game despite fears that it could see him overlooked for a regular place in the side.

"The manager's philosophy is that we play football in attack, but not at the back. That's not my style," he told Sporten.dk

“I'm not that type of player. I like to keep the ball on the ground, and that's what I'll keep doing. Time will show if he [Hodgson] doesn't want to play me because of that".

"I'll try to change myself, but I will never be a player who offloads the ball at every opportunity."

"I'll fight for my chance. I know what I stand for, and I think he [Hodgson] does too".
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

World class defenders should as a rule invariably show their obvious  displeasure when omitted from a team that is bereft of ball playing defenders who can actually defend ..... Agger is spot on in his  appraisal of the managers formations and tactics however despondent posters and fans believe it to be
Daniel Agger is the best defender we have at the club ,his omission from our team does not bode well for an eventual attacking style of play ,rather it means we may have to be come more familiar with the type of unimaginative  football we are presently  being forced to endure
Surely the manager can amend his blueprint for the pragmatic and include the obvious talent of Agger in his equation
Get him back in the team Roy ............

last week he thought along the same lines as us ...that he was undoubtedly  the classiest defender we had at the club and he would be the mainstay of our  future  defence ...
he's gone from  World Class to fucking bench warmer in the space of a fortnight.... I think he has the right to vent don't you ?
