DANIEL AGGER - Official Thread

When is he back?

After yesterdays performance I think we need him back ASAP. With Carrager lobbing hopeless balls forward to no one in particular and Skrtel playing crab like passes the whole game, we could do with someone like Agger to bring the ball out of defense. With Xabi now gone we lacked a lot of creativity in the middle of the park. Near the end of the match Gerrard had to come back BEHIND Lucas and Mash to get the ball!!

I think Agger is capable of picking out a pass in through the middle or even finding a man on the flanks. His distribution from the back is a lot better IMO then then Carra and Skrtel and on the evidence of yesterday its something we sorely missed. Added to the fact he is a good defender and is good for the odd goal

Just been reading that he is booked in for a back operation next week and could be out for at least another month (october) :(

link (its in Danish but google will traslate it )

Long-term back problems was for a short time disappeared earlier this summer, but has been replaced by new problems after an incident in a pre-season game for Liverpool in Asia earlier this month. Thursday it was decided that Daniel Agger will undergo back surgery next week.
Thus, Daniel Agger certainly out for the upcoming two qualifying matches against Portugal, 5 september og Albanien den 9. September and Albania on 9 september, men det er derimod ikke udelukket, at han kan nå at være klar til de sidste gruppekampe mod Sverige og Ungarn i oktober måned. September, but it is not impossible that he can achieve to be ready for the final group matches against Sweden and Hungary in October.

according to the guardian the news is even darker:

"Liverpool's early season defensive problems show no sign of abating after Daniel Agger was told he requires surgery on a persistent back problem. The Denmark international has not featured for Rafael Benítez's side this term and missed the majority of pre-season with an injury that has not responded to treatment in recent weeks.

Following a further visit to a specialist, the 24-year-old has been booked in for an operation next week and is expected to be absent for several months."

if this is true and not a journalistic balls up then its a massive blow for us. we're dependent on keeping carra and skrtel fit for a whole season as i just don't see ayala, the greek bloke or any of the kids as being anywhere near good enough to contribute to a title challenging side.

And our best defender buggered off coz he barely got a game last season. How we could do with big Sami now eh  :(

This is a serious concern and Rafa will have to replace him with a quality CB. NOT the Greek!

I fear Agger will never be a consistant player for us....once a player starts having back problems then its downhill all the way....look what happened with Gary Gillespie ???

Gerrard had a lot of back problems early in his career, so it doesn't always mean that they are going to be a continual problem. I suppose it depends on what kind of problem he has.

Best that he get this surgery out of the way. He is still young and much like Stevie still has plenty of time to recover.

However Stevie did play through his back pains as best he could. Agger hasn't featured much for us over the past year. Probably looking at early november for closer to peak performance.

It's a long, long way away :(

How much did Milan reportedly offer? Maybe we should have sold in retrospect

Finally some light at the end of the tunnel?

AGGER TO MAKE CITY RETURN
Steve Hunter 28 September 2009
Daniel Agger will make his comeback from injury for the reserves at Manchester City on Tuesday night.
The Reds No.5 has been sidelined since pre-season with a back problem, but his return to fitness has given Rafa Benitez a major boost.

Swiss international Philipp Degen and David Ngog are also expected to feature for John McMahon's side at the City of Manchester Stadium (kick-off 7pm).

"It is fantastic to see Daniel back and it's a great boost for everyone at the club," McMahon told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"It's always great to see quality players come back from injury and this will be a perfect game for him to make his comeback.

"It's a fantastic stadium with a great pitch and it is always a fantastic boost for the young lads when they have a top professional like Daniel playing alongside them.

"The young lads look up to him and they can learn from him as well."

Would be very nice to see him back in the first team soon (Chelsea away is probably too early given he's lacking match fitness though), as the Carra/Skrtel partnership hasn't exactly been flourishing (to say the least) this season.
