last week he thought along the same lines as us ...that he was undoubtedly  the classiest defender we had at the club and he would be the mainstay of our  future  defence ...
he's gone from  World Class to fucking bench warmer in the space of a fortnight.... I think he has the right to vent don't you ?

Oh i totally agree mate - he should be starting every single game he can .

Everyone who has watched  football should agree mate ... that's what makes the managers decision to omit him from the side so galling

I can only think he sees Skrtel as his Hangeland player - big strong and good in the air - shame that currently Skrtel is none of them .

Agger is terribly under rated, and it seems as though Roy under rates him also.

He reads the game much quicker than Skrtel and doesnt have those annoying lapses in concentration that Skrtel also has.

Skrtel isnt that bad a defender but he should never be starting every match. I would even rather Kyrgiakos!

In all honesty neither Agger nor Skyrtel are top class in their own right, but I slightly prefer Agger like most people. My current crusade though is Agger plus the Greek with carra at right back and Johnson on the right of midfield. Makes us better in both defence and attack no?

I came up with this suggestion recently but it was pointed out Carragher would be too slow for pace at right back. I would still like to see Johnson further forward, though.

Here's a link to the post match interview with Agger where he is basically ''complaining'' over the long-ball tactics that do not suit his game.

Tonight's Liverpool Echo

DANIEL AGGER today backed Christian Poulsen to emerge from his baptism of fire and show the qualities that thrust him to the top of Roy Hodgson’s summer wanted list.

The Denmark international had appeared to struggle in the first few games of his Liverpool career following his move from Juventus but left that form behind against Manchester United on Sunday.

Poulsen fulfilled a busy, diligent role in trying to protect Liverpool’s back four and was not found wanting when it really mattered.

But that came as no surprise to Agger, who again had to settle for a place on the bench at Old Trafford, having started the campaign as a makeshift left-back.

He knows from playing alongside Poulsen for Denmark exactly what the 30-year-old is capable of and has urged supporters not to judge the former Sevilla man alongside Javier Mascherano.

“Everybody has a period at the beginning when it is really, really tough,” Agger explained. “It is difficult because of the pace because there is nothing like it anywhere in Europe.

“But Christian has played in three of the big ones (leagues) and he has shown since he has been here that he can do (a job) and play well.

“I can’t see why it shouldn’t be the same in this league. It’s unfair to make comparisons (with Mascherano) as they are not the same kind of players.“In football, people always compare players but I think everybody is different. Everybody adds something different to a team and you never get two players who are exactly the same.

“It’s wrong to compare players and even more wrong to compare players in the past. But that happens a lot.”

With Hodgson set to ring the changes tomorrow night when Liverpool begin their Carling Cup campaign against Northampton, Agger should find himself back in the starting line-up.

It is not an ideal situation for the classy central defender but he has made it clear he is willing to play whenever and wherever, so long as it means he is a first team regular again.

Above all, though, he wants to see Liverpool leave their indifferent early form behind and improve their league position as a matter of urgency.

“It has been a bit mixed in terms of results but there have been positives,” said Agger. “When you have 10 men against Arsenal, whether it is at home or away, it’s always difficult.

“We want some more points but we have had some difficult games, like against Manchester City and United. There have been times when we haven’t played well and you admit to that.

“If you don’t play well, you lose. So far things have been okay but, as everyone knows, we need some more points. We are working hard every day.

“I want to be in the team and that is the most important thing for me. If he put me as a goalie, it doesn’t matter. I just want to be in the team.”

I like Agger not only for his footballing ability ,but his honesty in saying he will not compromise on the style of football he believes should be played

In fairness agger would know better than me what's been said behind closed doors, but in both of our last two away games we've actually played some lovely stuff, it's just that it's been completely toothless for the most part which is the problem. We had more of the possession for much of the game at Old Trafford, so it's not as if we were lumping it, we were keeping it.

Funnily enough we might have considered lumping it a bit more I reckon.

I completely disagree. He's overated by most reds I think, he's a decent player, there's not doubt about that but neither he or Skrtel is really suited to playing with Carra in my opinion. Agger gets painted as some sort of ball playing libero but it's all a little over-exagerated for me. He's good on the ball, average to decent in the air (but not dominant), run of the mill for pace and fairly strong in the tackle. I prefer him to Skrtel as well but there isn't a million miles between them. Skrtel is stronger, better in the air and more agressive and perhaps that's why he is getting the nod at the moment. I still wish we had been able to afford big Hangeland ove the summer. The guy is a class act (Hyppia mark 2) and would have complemented either Agger or Carra perfectly. Hopefully we might get him next summer. Unfortunately we are left with 4 lads who do not complement each other as a partnership.

Scott do you think his injuries have knocked him back as a player - I remember the 06 - 07 season when he was a virtual ever present at the back and looked superb all season and it looked like we finally got ourselves a genuine jockey replacement , he then got injured and since then has never looked as good as he did that season

Daniel Agger today hit back at suggestions he has criticised the Reds' style of play under manager Roy Hodgson and insisted: "I'm happy at Liverpool."

The Reds' defender spoke to Danish TV following Sunday's defeat to Manchester United, after which quotes attributed to him emerged in the Danish press which seemed to indicate he was unhappy with the role he was being asked to play in the Liverpool team.

Agger was keen to set the record straight when he sat down with Liverpoolfc.tv at Melwood today.

"I am very disappointed with the papers in Denmark for the way they have done this story," he said. "I spoke to Danish TV after the game on Sunday and answered the questions that were put to me. I didn't speak to the papers.

"The problem was the questions never appeared on TV, only the answers did, and then the newspapers put their own questions in. What came out was one hundred per cent wrong and that is why I am very disappointed.

"An example is the quote about me not playing long balls. The TV journalist asked me what I needed to do to get back into the team and suggested I should start hitting more long balls. I said I wouldn't do that because I'm not that kind of player. That's where that quote came from.

"I actually think we play good football and that we have showed that against Manchester United and against Arsenal.

"What I don't understand is that it was only a few days ago when I spoke to the media ahead of the Steaua Bucharest game and I think I said everybody at the club was happier now with the new manager, the new players and the new methods. It's strange to read this just a few days later but that's the way the media works, especially in Denmark. They don't have much to write about so they look for every little thing and try to make a big sensation out of it.

"I have been involved in every game this season. Of course I'm disappointed when I'm not in the team, but I have been here for five years and really like it here. I wouldn't have stayed for this long if I didn't like it or if I was unhappy. I am still happy and will keep fighting for my place."

Both Agger and Skrtl came to England as relatively young players with good reputations looking to make a name for themselves. Agger in particular as been plagued by injury but overall you would have to say that both footballers have not really improved their game since they signed on. They had promise, but just have not managed to improve at Liverpool or maybe they just didnt have it in them. It probably speaks volumes that no manager sees fit to pair them at centre back and thats because the cannot be trusted so and ageing Garragher is having to carry either one of them. The way its shaping up its proving to be a burden he cannot carry much longer.
