Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Redman in wales wrote:Daniel Agger today hit back at suggestions he has criticised the Reds' style of play under manager Roy Hodgson and insisted: "I'm happy at Liverpool."

The Reds' defender spoke to Danish TV following Sunday's defeat to Manchester United, after which quotes attributed to him emerged in the Danish press which seemed to indicate he was unhappy with the role he was being asked to play in the Liverpool team.

Agger was keen to set the record straight when he sat down with Liverpoolfc.tv at Melwood today.

"I am very disappointed with the papers in Denmark for the way they have done this story," he said. "I spoke to Danish TV after the game on Sunday and answered the questions that were put to me. I didn't speak to the papers.

"The problem was the questions never appeared on TV, only the answers did, and then the newspapers put their own questions in. What came out was one hundred per cent wrong and that is why I am very disappointed.

"An example is the quote about me not playing long balls. The TV journalist asked me what I needed to do to get back into the team and suggested I should start hitting more long balls. I said I wouldn't do that because I'm not that kind of player. That's where that quote came from.

"I actually think we play good football and that we have showed that against Manchester United and against Arsenal.

"What I don't understand is that it was only a few days ago when I spoke to the media ahead of the Steaua Bucharest game and I think I said everybody at the club was happier now with the new manager, the new players and the new methods. It's strange to read this just a few days later but that's the way the media works, especially in Denmark. They don't have much to write about so they look for every little thing and try to make a big sensation out of it.

"I have been involved in every game this season. Of course I'm disappointed when I'm not in the team, but I have been here for five years and really like it here. I wouldn't have stayed for this long if I didn't like it or if I was unhappy. I am still happy and will keep fighting for my place."

So Danish press are kunts too??Who'd have thought.

Next time Danny lad say fu,ck all, don't talk to them cause they only manipulate what you say.

Should be in the team in CD every day of the week before Skrtel though. The fella fought so hard to get back from injury and is chomping at the bit...only to be on the bench to a big reckless carthorse
Unlike some I cant warm to Skrtel at all....Agger is twice the defender he will ever be.Agger has a brain,Skrtel has not.

Skrtel is far from a bad player, he's not world class but the guy knows how to deffend but I'd always rather play Agger than him.

I agree about Hangeland. He'd be ideal. How old is he?

Benny The Noon wrote:Scott do you think his injuries have knocked him back as a player - I remember the 06 - 07 season when he was a virtual ever present at the back and looked superb all season and it looked like we finally got ourselves a genuine jockey replacement , he then got injured and since then has never looked as good as he did that season

Yeah no doubt it's knocked him, he was looking very good that season but I can also remember him having an absolute mare against Drogba in the Champ league semi at the bridge. You could say the same about Skrtel on the injuries front, he's had his fair share, remember how well he was playing to start the 08/09 season? The guy was fookin brilliant for the first 10 games, hurt his jaw and has never been the same since.

I just think we are seriously lacking a dominant (in the air) centre-half to compliment Carra or Agger at the back, al of our lads (bar Krygiakos) is abit lacking in the air and it costs us. You can play the greek but he's slower than a JCB on the turn.

Not too sure mate, I think he's around 27-28 but you'd have to check it. Cracking player. Not just in the air either, reminds me of Hyppia in so many ways. If we ever get new owners and Roy is still the boss he will be a Liverpool I think.

The lack of reaction in here (which of course also has to do with all the takeover talk) to Agger's latest injury setback just shows that unfortunately we've almost come to expect/accept him being injured. It's a real shame with his constant back problems and these various other niggling injuries, as it has no doubt hindered his progress from a few seasons back where he was excellent imo (if injury free I'd still very much have him ahead of Skrtel anyday).

Liverpool FC rocked by "long-term" Daniel Agger injury setback

Daniel Agger's injury-plagued Liverpool career has taken yet another turn for the worse after it emerged that he will be out of action indefinitely.

Roy Hodgson confirmed that the Denmark international, who visited a specialist in London earlier this week to assess what was described as a 'fairly serious' calf injury, is now a long-term casualty and admitted that he cannot foresee an imminent return date.

Agger, 25, has endured a long and arduous battle with the treatment table since moving to Anfield from Brondby in 2006 and speaking after today's 2-0 win over Chelsea, Hodgson is cautious about attempting to rush the centre-back to action for fear of further setbacks.

He said: "Agger is long-term. They can't put a date on it. So it could be very long-term.

"At the moment he can't train, he has just got to rest and wait for the next time he goes to see the specialist again.

"They are very anxious that bone doesn't form. It is a calcification issue and training would certainly accelerate the calcification.

"Now they have to wait and hope the body breaks down the calcifying elements before he can even think about training again."

:(   so sad.  Easily our best ball playing defender. But Can not stay fit for for 3 months in a row. So unlucky, but there comes a time where you have to bite the bullet. He can not be relied on to be our first choice defender (I know Roy didnt pick him much, but even if he were favoured by Roy, he wouldn't be able to have a sustained run in the team cause of his injury record. )

Such a shame. I love him as a defender, I've stated before he'd be the first defender on my team sheet, but right now he's aiming for Kewell's treatment room record.

He's so unlucky with injuries this lad :(. Seems to take quite a long time to heal from them as well. Here's hoping he'll be back soon enough, though it unfortunately seems I shouldn't be holding my breath about it.

Not great news at all.....I really like Agger and think he's a cracking player, a football player...

BUT...

It raises questions about our backroom staff and the physios, medics and all the other potion makers responsible for making sure players are fit etc. He's had his fair share of injuries, hasn't he ? Why has it taken so long to diagnose ? Is this calcification thing a progressive injury or does anybody know ?
Reminds me of all the injuries Nando and Stevie G had - neither recovered fully and limped from game to game, to injury, recovery, to game, to injury etc etc...

Wonder if the new owners have any thoughts on the backroom staff and the medical staff ?

Really feel for the Lad ....but feel his loss to the team is greater ...one of the most comfortable defenders with the ball at his feet since Hansen ,and I really had high hopes for this Lad becoming one of the best in the game ......such a crying shame :(

Has the potential to be a class act for LFC but I fear for him with his injury record. I read that Rafa is interested in taking him to Italy and I think Agger may be tempted - fresh start, slower pace of game, less contact - maybe he will actually get fit.

Even if injured he could fetch a few quid in the January window and that might tempt Hodgson/Commolli to cash in and bring in a replacement - like Gary Cahill or Ryan Shawcross (i.e. young homegrown talent).

I hope Agger stays but I have a feeling he will move on for the reasons stated above :(
