CARDIFF CITY VS LIVERPOOL - 26 february 2012, ko: 16:00

Liverpool Football Club - Games

Postby Kenny Kan » Mon Feb 27, 2012 3:50 am

I Have to say I was underwhelmed by the team's performance as it just epitomised our season. We, yet again, failed to break down a side that showed a defensively spirited game plan and it was ordinary to watch. The game was good don't get me wrong but it was Cardiff IMO who made the game what it was.

Gerrard had another poor game IMO and I really don't like watching him in the deeper role. I've advocated this in the past, for him to play deeper as the twilight of his career beckons. I think, looking at the performances against the Mancs and then yesterday's game I got that wrong, defensively/positionally I think he's found wanting.

Henderson was a disappointment again. Adam not much better and Downing good. Even though Carroll's improved a bit - his touch was good yesterday but his anticipation and movement is akin to a pub Sunday league player. Downing put in a few good crosses and he couldn't read them - he should if he's the spear head of attack. Suarez was disappointing, can't help but feel the s.hit he has been through recently has affected his game, I hope he pulls through this because he is a quality player, a quality player only the likes of Fergie and the FA could ruin. I thought Enrique was poor bordering okay, Johnson fared better but should have got forward more. Skertel was good even though he played Cardiff's first goalscorer onside and Agger was alright too.

Kuyt's impact was obvious, more so than Bellamy's IMO, he came on and looked a genuine threat wanting to play the pass forward at every opportunity. I Felt sorry for him because he didn't start and on form I would have picked him over Henderson.

Hate to sound like a miserable old fecker after a cup win but after that performance I wouldn't have been too bothered had Cardiff won it. At one point I thought they deserved it more than us.

Typical LFC - always making hard work of it, it's taken 10 years off my life watching this club! :D

Special mention to Downing though. That's the player I've wanted to see since day one. Easily our best player. We still commit nowhere near enough men forward from midfield though to get on the end of his crosses.

Agree.  Every shot was off, he was defensively frail at times, and you could tell he was getting desperate to easily, and launching long passes up the pitch to nothing.  It's unfortunate really, but he has to have at least 1 bad final, it's not fair to make him win any more trophies for us.

Nice Pixs Bam
Thoughts as I struggle through Arvo half asleep.
Kudos to Cardiff who i think deserve more credit and I think our team not just Suarez have pretty torrid time of late.
We were always on a hiding to nothing playing lower division side in a cup final.
Least for neutrals it was entertaining final which is good our PR for those worried about such things.
Certainly there are negatives but as shamelessly rose coloured happy clapper I not going to dwell on them in cup winning thread
Well done to Kenny and boys and especially made up for Dirk Diggler

I was at the game, thought we deserved to win but full credit to Cardiff.
Skrtel was immense, Downing had his best game for us, I agree Gerrard wasn't at his best but he cannot save us all the time.
Though Henderson was terrible.

Great day, very tired but just glad we won something at last.

WELL IT WAS EXCITING AND LET'S FACE IT WE NEVER LIKE TO DO IT THE EASY WAY!! I have been moaning about Jordan Henderson for a while and unfortunately his selection over Kuyt very nearly cost us the game. He was atrocious against a Championship team. Downing had his best game and was nearly my MOTM. He played very well against Brighton and I wondered if that was a level more suited to him. I'm now hoping he has turned the corner and can put in similar performances against Arsenal and Sunderland.Kuyt was immense and get's MOTM. When he came on he very nearly won us the game. Great to see us back in Europe and winning cups. THANKS KENNY !!!!!
