So then who's getting the axe in summer? - And who will arrive?

i've read today from various sources that kuyt to liverpool in the summer is pretty much a done deal, with dudek going the other way along with pongolle on loan.

here's hoping anyway.

I'd expect to see 3-5 faces leave this summer. Cisse seems to be the only REAL certainty to go although that will depend on us getting a fee for him. I'd be surprised if Traore is still at the club, particularly with recent specualtion about Aurellio. While Warnock has dissapointed me slightly this season (i believed he would really push on) i hope that he is given another season to prove he can cut it at the club.
I still wouldn't be so sure that Morientes will be at another club next year. Rafa clearly rates him highly and may decide to keep faith should he go on to score a few more goals between now and the end of the season.
I hope and expect Robbie to do enough to earn himself a new contract. If he can score another 4 goals this season the boss will keep him on i'm sure.
A few seem to think Kewell could be on his way. That would be folly in my eyes. The lad has been in good (not great) form since the turn of the year and (along with Gerrard) has been our best attacking player for a few months now.

As for who we will bring in. i like Defoe & it looks like it could be a possibility. Of course we will be linked with Mikey again. Torres will be nice but we're talking BIG money for this lad.

Kuyt is popular with a lot of the guys on here (especially Lynds) and can you believe i went to the Ajax-PSV game in Amsterdam this weekend and completely forgot Kuyt plays for PSV! I don't even know if he was playing! I was in a mess mind   :D

:D No mushrooms but a very hazy weekend all the same pal. Was very weird going to a foreign football game.
The Dutch guy who got us the tickets insisted we watch the game at the same end as him (we had tickets for another stand) and it was all a bit much at one stage. He had us cut in front of about 50/60 people queueing to get in and then we had to tell a Dutch steward we had back backs in order to use the main elevator (to the stand we shouldn't have been in) instead of the stairs to the other parts of the ground. Was VERY stoned but the atmosphere was brilliant. Not up to a big game at Anfield but at the end we sat behind NO-ONE ever sits down and it's pretty much a case of stand where you like. the fans were excellent and didn't stop singing all game.

Ok... I am I being comletely naive to interpret Ballack's 'statement of intent' on EuroSport to be both an invitation to other premiership clubs and a bit of a slap in the face for Maurinho?

Michael Ballack has admitted he would prefer a move to England rather than Spain when his Bayern Munich contract ends in the summer.

The Germany captain is being courted by a host of top European clubs - with Chelsea and Real Madrid leading the running - but Ballack says England is his favoured destination.

"For me, it is The Premiership rather than La Liga," Ballack said on Wednesday. "I am a very physical player and, in England, the pace is fast and the tackles are hard."

Bayern have all but admitted defeat in their desperate bid to keep their prize asset in Bavaria, and Ballack revealed he feels he could become a success in the Premiership.

"If you look at the players that have become legends in England, like Patrick Vieira and Roy Keane, I see a lot of myself in players like that," Ballack said.

I know people keep saying that no-one can compete with the wage promises that Chelsea would offer but if you're saving ( conservatively) 15-20 mill on the transfer fee (Ballack's available on a free) why not simply use that to supplement his wages over 5 years?

Another 5 mill plus 5mill for Cisse would see a fair choice of strikers to choose from leaving 5-10 mill (from a touted budget of 30mill) for a specialist right winger.

I guess the question is though, what would Ballack bring to the team that Gerrard and Alonso don't...?

It's a slow day - humour me.... :grinning:

If you went to an Ajax VS PSV game, then you would of had a hard time picking him out on the pitch even if you weren't sh.itfaced. As he plays for Feyenoord and all.  :D

Will keep it simple:
Players Out: Cisse, Kirkland, Dudek, possibly Morientes and Fowler

Players in: Defoe, Kuyt, Joaquim and a back up goalie.

The players in bit is a wish list, I think Defoe is a possibility, Kuyt and Joaquim have been talked about for a long time but they would make excellent additions.

A lot of people said traore to leave and while he is a bit of a bungling clown he can cover centre and left defensive positions and as such is a useful player for a squad. Crouch won't go, I think Rafa is aching to see him play alongside a natural finisher...that is why someone like Defoe will come in, together they could be an excellent partnership. Will be an interesting summer though

I don't tend to get excited by mass speculation, about 90% of all players we are strongly linked with we don't sign, so to get all excited is just asking for a major let down. It seems as tho a lot of our speculation has just been recycled from last summer.

I would expect at least three to six players to leave in the summer, a few from the senior squad and a few from the reserves. Traore could well be on his way out, as could Djibril Cisse.

I'd like us to replace Cisse with Jermaine Defoe, I'd like us to sign either Joaquin (which is highly unlikely) or Jermaine Pennant, if we can't get either of those then I'd settle for Wayne Routledge.

I did want Wayne Bridge for left back or Justin Hoyte but I believe Hoyte is far too inexperienced for the hustle and bussle of playing in Europe and playing for a top side like Liverpool whose challenging for the top spot. As for Wayne Bridge he seems to be hampered by injury & I can't see Cheatski selling him to us. And it looks like we're signing that left back from Valencia anyhow.

So all in all I expect a miserable summer, with Benitez leaving all the signings until the last month or so of the pre-season campaign.

The one player who has impressed me every time i've seen him is Diego Milito from Real Zaragoza,he even scored 4 against real madrid last month. The guy looks class,it will be interesting to see what Sabre thinks of him.

Fernando Torres will be Rafa's main target. Atletico desperately needs the money, they will never sell him to another Spanish team especially Real, the Italian clubs have no room for strikers without selling the likes of Adriano, Ibrahimovic or Schevchenko which they will never do.

If Joaquin also makes the journey, we will have a lot of creative talent from these 2 players. Though I would give an arm and a leg for Mancini who is doing wonders on the right side of midfield with Roma

Jon Dahl Thomason, the Danish lad from Milan is also an option if both Mori and Cisse go.

I saw Joey Barton in Baa Bar last night getting :censored:. The reason he'll never make it to the top.
