DANIEL AGGER - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

For me, it's easy....

A fit and ready Agger is our best defender we have at the moment.
If he's worked himself back to full physical and match fitness,  it's criminal to leave him out of the starting eleven.
I can understand him wanting to leave if he's out of the 1st team once the above provisos are met.

Our defense has been shambolic and for me the centre halves are less to blame than our woeful wide defenders. Those 2 positions have resulted in our centre halves being pulled out of position so many times this season it's not even funny.

I'd put Agger and the Greek in the centre and move Carra back out wide against the less speedy sides as GJ is simply not doing the job there. Konchesky has been pitiful as well except for 1 or 2 games.

We need Agger playing and playing well.

Agger is the only defender I feel really comfortable with out of our CBs, everyone else is a liability one way or another.  The lad gives a certain calmness at the back majority of the time that makes me feel like we'll be alright.  Needs more games to get his fitness and sharpness back but I love having a footballer at the back.

They said on Sky he was withdarawn due to illness not injury.  Can anyone confirm?
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Dalglish talks convinced Agger to stay at Liverpool FC, claims agent
by Richard Buxton. Published Mon 17 Jan 2011 14:03, Last updated: 2011-01-17

Daniel Agger's agent has revealed that talks with Kenny Dalglish prompted him to shelve any plans to leave Liverpool.

Under Dalglish, the Denmark international has enjoyed a new lease of life and has featured in his first three game since taking charge of the Anfield hot seat for the first time in 20 years.

Agger was expected to leave the club during the current transfer window after falling out of favour with previous manager Roy Hodgson, and was said last week to be in talks over a move to Fiorentina.

But Per Steffensen, Agger's representative, has dismissed suggestions that the 26-year-old could quit Merseyside before the window shuts at the beginning of next month and claims that Dalglish has outlined his vision to the defender in a meeting between the pair.

“Kenny Dalglish thinks a lot about Daniel and has made that clear to him in a meeting," he said.

Never doubted kenny would convince him to stay :) ....good news for the club

He was - Kenny has confirmed it on the official site (copied from a longer article about Kenny's thoughts on the game yesterday):

Liverpool's chances weren't helped by the substitution of the excellent Daniel Agger at half-time because of illness.

Dalglish added: "He was ill during the week at Blackpool and did well to survive that game. He's got a stomach problem.

"He's not really eaten properly since the Blackpool game so it's a great credit to him that he wanted to play and he did play so well in the first half.

So no injury this time around luckily and hopefully he stays fit as I really rate him amongst our current crop of cb's - as does Kenny apparently I'm glad to see.

Had a solid game yesterday, not a top defender IMO because he has his limitation as a defender, but if you play him with a big solid center half we could see a better player

Liverpool Echo
Jan 19 2011
LIVERPOOL’S Daniel Agger has given a personal assurance that his future remains at Anfield.

The Dane defender was linked to potential moves to both Juventus and Wolfsburg after Christmas.

But the 26-year-old, who has played from the start in the three games since Kenny Dalglish has taken charge, insists he is going nowhere.

Speculation has surrounded Agger for weeks now after his long-term calf injury kept him out of action.

Reports claimed Agger was interesting AC Milan, but yesterday Per Steffensen dismissed suggestions his client could quit Liverpool.

Now, the cultured centre back himself has responded to the rumours, quashing any likelihood of a move away from Merseyside.

He said: “You know how it works, some people can laugh at it, and some people take it seriously.

“Some journalists are doing a bit more than they should do with rumours like that, and we can only laugh at it.”

Asked if he would be at Anfield after the January transfer window, Agger added: “ I hope so.”

Wigan winger Charles N’Zogbia and Aston Villa wideman Ashley Young have been watched by the Reds, but no approaches have been made. And reports that Liverpool are courting Dutch hardman and Bayern Munich captain Mark Van Bommel are understood to be wide of the mark.

His agent Mino Raiola has claimed the Reds have made an offer, but there appears to be no desire on Merseyside for the midfielder, who is out of contract in the summer.

Delighted the Lad has stated he wishes to stay at the Reds ,imo he is comfortably the most gifted defender we have at the club , I always remember his performance against Chelsea at Anfield when he virtually dominated what was back then the most powerful and physically imposing  striker in world football Didier Drogba ...... to say Agger had him in his pocket would be slightly understating the Lads overall  superiority in that game  ... and he scored an absolute peach from a set piece .. Agger

The lad really needs to stay fit otherwise sell him and replace him with Sakho, Subotic, Jones etc.

Having nursed him back to fitness on umpteen occasions since he has been at LFC I am not sure I like the rumoured comments about him playing in the 1st team or he is off. Gone down in my estimations after that rant.

However...he is a good player and can do a good for us alongside Carra as a 1st choice (when fit).

Just love watcjing him stride forward from the back with the ball like he must have done 5 or 6 times last night. Just a joy to watch. Absolutely ridiculous that Hodgson was willing to sell him after dumping him on the bench for most of the season.

Our best defender by a country mile imo. Just need Carra back to play alongside him now.

Lucas just pipped him to being the best player on the field ,but the elegance and poise that Agger showed cutting through Stokes midfield was gazelle like and has you continually harking back to the days when Hansen plied his trade :D

Agger had a good game yesterday.  I think we are all thankful for the forearm shiver to Nando's chops.  However, anyone who thinks he can make a good LB will need to think twice.  The bit of play between he and Pepe showed how woefully one footed Danny is.  His lack of having the option of using his right foot nearly cost us a goal.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

He had a good game but at times he tried to play little pretty passes when they were bad options and put other players in bad positions causing us to lose possession.  I love that we wanna keep the ball on the floor but at times the hoof is the best option, too.
