Apparently, he'll be out for an "extended period". Good thing we've got depth in that defense. I expect Illori to get a game now since Sakho will be also out for at least 2 more games.

If we're looking at our budget and with much talk in the forum about our defence being replaced/reshaped, with Agger being arguably one of our more technically gifted defensive players does anyone think he could be taken out of the centre back position and reshaped into a defensive midfielder ?

He's got defensive awareness, is comfortable on the ball , not shy to push forward from a defensive position and sometimes looks likes a midfielder when he carries the ball up field.

Could he be better than our current DM's ?

Whaddya think ?

Not in a million years, gives the ball away far to often, isn't athletic enough, can't receive a ball on the turn and isn't a great short passer. He's a natural centre half who can do a job at left back if you're stuck, never a midfielder.

id go for that, have said it before on here that he would be worth a shout at D.M.  rodgers wont drop sakho and he wont play both together(which i agree with).
it might take a while for him to adjust but imo he has the attributes to be decent enough as a D.M if given the shot at it.

He's not a good enough passer, and he's not quick enough either. Lucas isn't the greatest passer or fastest player either, but Dagger as a DM would probably end up just being a 3rd CB who occasionally wonders forward.

Don't think he has the legs for all that running either, especially since he hasn't had to do that his entire career.

This is the same like the time when people were saying that Johnson would make a good winger. Agger is a good passer for a CB and he brings the ball out of defense well, but it's not the same thing if he's playing as a DM.

He won't make it as a DM, especially not in the system that we're playing now.

Agreed, just like he isn't a LB. As he showed the last time he played there.

was the same with Carra when we tried him in DM...it didn't work. Admittedly, Agger is technically good with the ball, but he's no midfielder.

I'd like to see him play centre half, with Sahko.

too big a risk imo having 2 centre halves that are left footed, especially when neither of those 2 have a right foot between them.
i doubt rodgers will ever field that combo unless we are ravaged by injuries

I mentioned that once as well but I think that it's kind of a myth that you shouldn't play 2 lefties center halves together. I mean, what's the difference if you play two right footed center halves together? Do left footed people have some sort of a handicap that right footed people don't?

Sakho and Agger are our two best defenders and they should play together.

Exactly. Its a bullsh*t argument all this, two footed, left footed, right footed rubbish. You're either a good player or you aren't. Your natural foot does not in any way shape or determine which side you're more effective. Your style of play does that.

Pires was a right footed left sided player, as was Overmars. Robben is a left footed right sided player. Ribery is also more effective on the opposite flank.

Lahm is probably the best full back in world football and is a right footer on the left, as was Zambrotta.

Agger and Sahko should play together. Simple as that.

Agger is great news (where the hell is Sakho?) ,Glen Johnson can work on his tan wherever he is and for long as he wants.
