Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

thanks st mick, well now danny has laid his cards on the table, despite the best team in the world and the richest club in the world wanting to sign him he`s prepared to turn them down and stay at anfield, if that is not showing loyalty to a club i dont know what is.
he`s been here 7 years, is one of our best players and has ynwa tattoo`ed across his knuckles.
if fsg decide to cash in on him thats me finished with footy and i mean that.
the day we sell one of our best players to one of our direct rivals when he clearly wants to stay is as far as i`m concerned the day this club stops being the football club i grew up watching.

Good post Mr. Alphabet.  I don't think Agger is going anywhere and I don't think FSG ever had any intentions on selling any of our best players.  Journo spec has unfortunately riled up the flames to a fire that never should have been started in the first place.

the bottom line in that headline reads:

"Agger now even more wants to become one of the most popular Liverpool players, and he will be known for an unheard loyalty, in an otherwise faithless footballing world.".

Hello
First of all im Danish and my English skills arent too good, but i hope i can make myself understandable anyway.

Just to elabroate on the Danish newspaper it says :

The big headline : He is going to be a legend ( yea yea it sells papers :) )

Second headline :Agger has put his foot down and refused to change to Man City eventhough the maneger wanted to sell him.

and third headline you have allready qoyed correct.

In the paper he is also asked about his new YNWA tatoo and says :
The tatoo has nothing to do with the current situration. Its out of respect to the Kop, the Clup, the people around the club and the city.

Sincerlly
Danish Agger supporter and Liverpool sympathizer.

thanks for the translation mate and your english is fine.
just to clarify the second headline though, does it specifically say that the manager wanted to sell him? or does it mean the club?
and by the way the way danny has come out and said he doesnt want to leave (at a time when the biggest and richest clubs on the planet are trying to sign him and we cant even offer him champions league footy or huge wages) will go down very well in this city, loyalty has always been important in this city and dannys stance will endear himself even more to the local fans. he already was a fan favourite because he`s such a good player but this will take it to another level.

I might have tranlated Maneger wrong. its says management. ( meaning the guys at the end of the table calling the shots ) i guess.
So im guesing that would be the owners of the club.

The article futhermore quote Agger for saying he hasnt been ask his opinion in this matter from the management, which seems ( im reading a bit between the lines here ) to surprise Agger a bit.
Agger ends this part of the interview by saying : Thats the way the club has decided to do it.

Agger ends the interview by saying it a bit more diplomatic :

I would rather stay and i couldnt imagine Playing for another club, but you never know, if the club finds selling me is the better chooice.

I feel the same mate, although it will pass and of course I will always support my club, however, I will always have disdain for those at the top that have forced this situation!

Pretty clear at this point that it City put it in an outrageous bid Agger will be off down
the road like it or not.

Its all about judging if the money will serve us better long term than the player and there
is a figure were that line is crossed which has not been reached yet but may be in the
next two weeks.

Despite his affection for the club Agger understands he is a comodity and can be traded
and no one sticks around when a club has accepted a bid and wants you out.

For & Against an Agger sale

For:

20+ million will give BR more options in the transfer market, reinvest those funds in other areas.
If City do not sign him now that deal may not come back again for the same money
Agger is injury prone as we all know & if he is out half a season then we might as well sell.
Rogers can't get good value out of other player sales & Agger at 27 is at the peak of his career.

Against:

Most important of all he is a veteran player who wants to be here & has said that out loud!
He is a world class defender, rock solid when he is playing
He perfectly fits the new BR system
He score goals too!
We will most likely not be replacing him with the same quality if he leaves which might leave a hole in our defence
No team that aims for success sells its best players to it's rivals, (If it were Barcelona I may feel better about it)
We have at least 4-5 inferior players that easily could be used as a player trade option before we entertain this idea to finance further signings (Adam, Henderson, Carroll, Cole, Spearing)

If Rodgers DOESN'T come out tomorrow and say that he is delighted to hear Agger's comments and that he isn't going anywhere then I reckon it's almost certain that Agger is on his way. The ball is very much in the club's court and they have to respond. Given that it's just come out that Skrtel could be inline for a new deal i'd like to think that the same will be offered to Danny but i've got a bad feeling about this. I think that BR wants more players in but there isn't a great deal of money so he has to make some tough choices. It would be folly to sell the lad given his suitablity for Br's style of play AND his partnership with Skrtel.

Lads, anyother possible scenario: Liverpool wanted to lock in the services of Skittle and Agger but under terms that reflect the economic climate rather than the recent fantasy wage levels. I assume both agents resisted so the club linked them with away. Remember Citech were first linked with Big Mart - then it went quiet and he has his 4 year deal. Agger (ice cream wouldn't melt in his mouth) is linked (by the club, not him) with a move to Barca or Citeh - which he states he knows nothing about and seems genuinely alarmed about - then someone mentiones a long term deal and Agger today says he wants to stay at Liverpool. To me its Fenway playing hardball - and they're right - breaking player power. 'Here's the deal, accept it or its the highroad for you sonny'. Bear in mind the owners backing wage caps, Fifa sustainable finance whatever its called etc.. Soon you'll find only Chavski, Citech and Ure support high wages, the foreigners will move out and British lads will have a fair chance again.  Viva.

The only reason to sell Agger would IMO be because he really is woefully one footed.  Great player and top value for selling him would be now.

That said. I sure as Fook don't want to see him go and have huge doubts about all the rumors.

I agree there's no advantage whatsoever to sell Daniel if we want success on the pitch. He is one of our best players and I'd even vote for him to become the next Liverpool captain. If BR is thinking about selling agger to buy other players, he should think again. If he needs to sell, sell Adam, spearing  and Carroll in that order
