From the ECHO

RAFA BENITEZ has put doubts about Daniel Agger’s long term Anfield future to one side by insisting the fit again defender can have a big impact on Liverpool’s title challenge.

A succession of niggling injuries have meant that Agger has started just two games for Liverpool this year but having announced his return to full fitness with a cameo appearance in the Reds recent 5-0 demolition of Aston Villa his manager believes the time is right for the 24-year-old to showcase his considerable talents.

“It is always a boost when you have good players coming back into the squad after injury, especially at this time of year because it is the most important part of the season,” said Benitez.

“If they are fit they can help the team with the quality they have.

“Agger showed when he came on against Aston Villa that he is no longer injured and he also showed that he can play really well with the ball, bringing it out from the back.

“So it will be good for us to have him available again, particularly as we have been without him on several occasions.

“Hopefully now he will be really fresh and ready to play his part because everyone knows that he is an important player for us.”

Doubts continue to shroud Agger’s future with the Reds because he is yet to signal his intention to sign a long awaited new contract at Anfield.

To be honest, it would be nice if he stopped giving ten interviews a week.

I agree and think we have to get them playing together as soon as, but what about Carra? he sure as hell isn't going to take being a squad player is he

I dont think he is a squad player. IMO carra is the best defender in our squad. He plays and rotate skrtel n agger along with him

thats where the problem lies, with three top class centre backs who al want to play but cant, it may well be that our strength in depth is going to bite us in the @rse

For a top class partnership to gel properly the same two should play together week in week out. Rotating centre backs IMO will lead us to making a lot more errors at the back and conceding silly goals

Have heard that he'll sign a new contract by the end of the week.

Yeah Dundalk was saying something similar earlier. Good news if true. Is he still injured?

Personally I´ve given up on Agger, I dont understand any of the machinations that have gone on in teh last 3 months, if the w@nker wanted to stay he would have stayed by now. Seems to be a prima donna if you ask me.

i guess for him to stay that would mean he would actually have to be offered a new contract which hadnt happened up until now and that is what he has asked for - talks on a new contract .

apparently you're all clued up on this then, what was the hold up then? All of this 70k business is certainly false then? its all the club's fault and not Aggers?

Be delighted to see Agger sign a new deal this week. The guy is class and has a BIG future at LFC. I have been quoted earlier in this thread as saying he is a potential LFC captain of the future.

Those berating Skrtel on here need to remember that he is 1 season into life at LFC. I think he has done well and will only improve next season again.

agger since coming back from injury hasnt looked the same player - down to the fact he has genuine competition in skittles
he has also had his head turned by the "glamourous" milan links

i hope he stays but if he is :censored: about then like any player i,d want him out

skittles is class and will only get better
