There were reports of a back injury that kept him out of the Man City game and prevented him from traveling to Madrid but it's all been very hush hush.

If he is injured fair enough. If he is having trouble with regards to his 'social life' fine, get it sorted somehow. But if he is fit and is just not being played then I wouldnt blame him if he left. Personally I think he is twice the player Skrtl is. Much more intelligent in his all round game, more aware and can come forward.

I don't know if he is injured or not, but surely it can't be "his social life" as he has been playing for his country? If those rumours where true surely he wouldn't be allowed to play for Denmark either ?

Defender targets Liverpool return
09:54 PM 12 March, 2009
Daniel Agger hopes to be back in action for Liverpool by the end of March.

The defender has played just twice in 2009 due to injury, but he hopes to feature for Denmark at the end of the month before winning his place back in the Reds side.

"Hopefully I'll be back soon. I'll start training any day now," Agger told Sporten.dk. "As it seems, and what I hope, is to be fit for the international games.

“You have to take things as they come, and the last couple of days have really been good. I've been undergoing good treatment and tried new exercises."

Does anyone know what his injury is ? I heard it was a back problem but nothing official.

Good to hear that.

Some players like ALonso weren't at his level and had injuries, but, yesteryear we missed Agger too in a good part of the season.

I really liked the Agger-Carra partnership despite not having that aerial power. I'm worried about the nightmare of Agger's injuries and I'm worried about his contract.

But at least it's good to hear the same good line of news since a while!

If hes been out this long through back injury, wouldnt it be in the best interest of the club (as in everyone) to wait and see?

To me, if this is the case, it makes no sense to offer a new contract until all concerned are absolutely certain this is not going to be a future problem. Lets not forget, Rob Jones retired early through a back problem.

Your view of wait and see is logical, but I disagree, when dealing with players there's an illogical part, as feelings are involved.

My point is Karhaz, if you don't consider a player good enough for the club, then have no mercy, sell him, or  do not offer him a contract.

If you're 80% sure he won't be the same player after injury, then don't offer him a new contract.

But if there's only SOME risk of that, I'd bet on the player and I'd offer him a new contract, if I trust the footballer.

If you don't, put yourself in the skin of Agger. Having a nightmare of recovery, suffering a lot for not helping the team. Then you see the club is "waiting and seeing". Once you're fully recovered, wouldn't you  have a bit of a bad feeling with that "waiting and seeing"? what if in the waiting period some other clubs are knocking at your door showing they don't care you're injured at the moment?

In my view, the sooner Agger signs a new contract, the better.

Not with regards to the club. My point about back injuries is valid, they are nasty and if he has indeed missed almost all this season because of it you have to be realistic. Supposing he does get back to football fitness, the problems already there, theres the aggravation. Back problems are no joke. Its not only feelings with a player there is a massive financial side, the players signing fee, his bonus, his appearance fee, his insurance. No to me it makes sense, wait and see. Lets not forget what we also went through with Harry Kewell, massive wages and not much return for them.

REDS BOOSTED BY AGGER RETURN

Rafael Benitez has today been boosted by the return to fitness of defender Daniel Agger.

The Reds boss revealed that the Denmark international has now resumed full training following a back problem and could be in contention for a place in the squad for Sunday's clash at home to Aston Villa.

"Daniel is back in training," Benitez told Liverpoolfc.tv. "Hopefully he will be available for the weekend but it depends on the doctor and whether he thinks it's a risk or not.

"Having Agger available again will be a big boost. When we play at home especially he is a player who can play good passes and is a threat in front of goal.

"We have missed him but hopefully he will now be available for the rest of the season."

Benitez also hinted that Alvaro Arbeloa should be fit to return against Villa but warned that the clash could be too soon for Xabi Alonso.

"Arbeloa trained today," he said. "It was a light training session but I think he'll be okay for Villa.

"It will be more difficult for Xabi Alonso. He was training but only with the physios.

"At the moment we are only definitely without Yossi Benayoun and Philipp Degen so it's very good for us that most of the players are fit because it means we can change them when we need to."

Also Lets hope he signs a new contract soon as well now rafa has his sorted

Now that Rafa's contract is sealed, Dan Agger's contract should be signed soon. He is a very important player for us in long term

Glad to see him back yesterday. Hopefully he'll stay fit and be involved in the run in, where we could really do with him against the so called lesser teams that aim to park the bus. Fingers crossed he won't be injured again while away on international duty. Oh, and get him a new contract please :)

I agree Jamcar, it was good to see him back, he's already good and experience will make him even better.

Why would a first class player want to leave LFC at the moment with the visible improvement and success beckoning?  Get him signed.

I would second what has been said already, Agger is a great addition for the future especially as Sami is likely to move in the summer.
