Agger would have to be on drugs to want to leave us.

Sorry Daniel :D

Agger reassured by Reds boss

Rafael Benitez insists Daniel Agger is a big part of his plans at Liverpool, even though the Dane has only made 10 league starts this season.

The 24-year-old centre-back has been persistently linked with a move away Anfield, with AC Milan understood to be monitoring prolonged contract negotiations.

Agger - whose season has been hit by injury - has yet to put pen-to-paper on a long-term deal as he is not guaranteed a place in the starting XI after apparently falling behind Jamie Carragher, Martin Skrtel and Sami Hyypia in the pecking order.

However, Benitez has implied that the Denmark international could regain a regular place in his plans if he remains on Merseyside.

The Liverpool boss said in the Mail on Sunday: "Agger knows what I think of him.

"If he stays fit, he will have as good a chance of playing as anyone else, maybe more."

--------------------

Although I think Skrtel has a good future ahead of him at present I would say Agger is a better all round player so im not sure why when fit he is behind in the pecking order. Anyway I hope he signs a new contract. I wouldn't mind that Albiol either but Agger is settled, he has adapted to playing here and I would rather he sign a new long term contract.

Good news. This coming from Rafa is a reassurance.

But it's true he needs to stay fit. IMHO, one of the players we've missed most these two seasons. Now I hope the contract is signed soon.

Daniel Agger Set To Reject New Liverpool Deal - Report

The Dane's Liverpool future still appears to be in some jeopardy.
29 Mar 2009 11:28:47

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger is reportedly set to reject the club’s offer of a new contract this week, according to the News of the World.

The Dane is currently away on international duty with Denmark, who beat Malta 3-0 yesterday, but when he returns to Anfield he is expected to decline a new deal.

Agger’s contract expires next summer, which has led to a number of clubs, including AC Milan, expressing an interest in the Dane.

However, Liverpool are believed to be keen to keep the 24-year-old and are hoping he will follow manager Rafael Benitez in putting pen-to-paper on a long-term deal.

But Agger appears to have become frustrated on Merseyside, after a series of injuries have seen him fall down the pecking order at Anfield.

The defender has struggled for first team appearances this season, making only ten Premier League starts, and has found the form of Martin Skrtel, Jamie Carragher and Sami Hypia another barrier to overcome.

A back injury has been his latest set-back, yet he has now returned to fitness and may play some part in Liverpool’s title run-in.

That's very dissapointing if true. Of course a player can be frustrated with injuries but surely that's nothing to do with the club you play at.  :(

I don't know if we tried to renew contract before but we should have. Not renewing Agger's contract and not getting money for him is dissapointing.

P.S. Ah, but it's News of the World, it means nothing. Phew.

I seriously have my doubts on Skrtel, Agger is a better player.

I have my doubts on both... Skrtel imo is the better of the 2... Agger better on the ball and the more likeable of the 2 bcause of his style but still.. nowhere near as good as the likes of Vidic, Ferdinand, carvalho, even Terry... maybe in time but for now theyr not yet at that level... wouldnt mind losing Agger if we get someone better because i dont think Skrtel is going anywhere...

why is he stalling on a new deal, is it club or him? Is it all about money?

Personally I think the club are stalling on it and he's taking the :censored: a bit
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing

I don't think so, I guess Agger is tempted by AC Milan, and with Skrtel back in the team sheet he is getting frustrated with the games he isn't getting.

I think originally it was down to money that Agger was demanding 70k a week and Rafa was not prepared to offer that for someone who is not a 1st choice player.

If it's purely down to money then he's out of order and can do one, he hasn't had a full season since his first and he wants to demand those figures

It's hard to say that, I reallly like him as a player, he has composure on the ball and can pick a good pass but if it's cash it's players like him that help give the sport a bad name  :no
