DANIEL AGGER - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Ideally I'd keep Agger, but I've said time and again that he's overrated by LFC fans in general.

I wouldn't shed any tears if he left, that's for sure.  If Benitez can do one thing well, it's organise a defence, so if Agger has thrown the toys out and wants to go, Benitez will replace him no problem.

Personally I think the club are stalling on it and he's taking the :censored: a bit

I think originally it was down to money that Agger was demanding 70k a week and Rafa was not prepared to offer that for someone who is not a 1st choice player.

If it's purely down to money then he's out of order and can do one, he hasn't had a full season since his first and he wants to demand those figures

It's hard to say that, I reallly like him as a player, he has composure on the ball and can pick a good pass but if it's cash it's players like him that help give the sport a bad name  :no

Word of caution mate that 70k thing was just a rumor. In fact he might have even come out and denied it some time ago (yes this has been going on for quite some time  :D )

I think if it is down to that then his character has to come into question. However he is a top class defender imo and if we were to sell him we would have top spend around 8 - 12Mil on another top class defender as let's face it we would not want to sacrifice quality at the back.

thats why I said 'if'. I think he's shown good character so personally I believe this 70k is a bit exagerrated (thats not to say the stalling may still be down to money)

For me the more likely scenario is that he's holding for a clause to play a certain percentage of our games and Rafa won't budge, that's just my opinion of course

it seems out of character for agger to be making these demands so its hard to believe, but lets be honest we dont know these people players let us know what they want us to know in interviews

but agger is class and we should try and sort out his contract because i dont believe there are many defenders with his ability in the world

And I thought most of the fellow reds underrated him!  :D

I don't know mate, the other day I heard Rafa was interested in Albiol a rather young and promising Spanish international.

When I heard the news I didn't like it whatsoever, precisely because I thought the future of our CB was well secured with Agger.

Right now with his experience, defending he's not a world class defender, but quality in defending will be brought by experience (in this position is more important than in any other bar keepers).

With the ball though, he's the best CB we could dream of, he helps our CM a lot in games in which the midfield is crowded and to top it off he has a shot to worry about. Perhaps I'm overrating the Dan, but I can't help having a soft spot for his football. A matter of tastes I guess!

It seems people on here either highly rate him or don't rate him at all.

i dont see many who dont rate him at all mate...
hes a very good footballer as Sabre put it but not yet a top defender.. not by any stretch of the imagination i'd think... if experience would lead to him improving on his positioning and anticipation, i think that would go a long way for him brilliant centerback (needs to be a little more dominant, maybe a little more time in the gym could sort that out)... for now he's just another good player who is by no means indispensible to this club..

cant beleive Agger is behind Skrtel in the pecking order, i cant see why everyone rates Skrtel at all, always looks clumsy and a big mistake is just around the corner.

I think if Skrtel is not playing with Carragher, Skrtel would be average at best. Carra covered a lot of mistake. As many of you had watched the friendly between England and Slovak, Skrtel was horrible. I prefer Agger at least he is calm and about to give us another dimension. I'd seen Skrtel lose more header than won. I think we might as well put Hypia back there if Agger is to leave. Heard he rejected the deal and i think Rafa would off load him in Summer if he is not going to sign. Anyway, one point for certain is Agger doesn't look happy.

skrtel average at best?? hes a bit raw but not many players arent at his age with only 1 season at the top level under his belt, hes improving his positional sense and decision making with every game and in my opinion can form one of the best defensive partnerships in the world with danny boy agger

I agree and think we have to get them playing together as soon as, but what about Carra? he sure as hell isn't going to take being a squad player is he

I dont think he is a squad player. IMO carra is the best defender in our squad. He plays and rotate skrtel n agger along with him
