Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Owzat wrote:Arsene, the only magician in the known footballing world to win the Premiership without being a heavyweight in the spending and producing a flow of talented youngsters that can be sold for a tidy profit if they don't make it. He's won more league titles against the odds than Chelsea have bought thus far, even managed a minor miracle of going unbeaten, and with the same kind of finances Rafa has COULD win the league with us. If he came here and brought Fabregas with him I doubt many would complain, or half a dozen of the rest/kids.

I'll quickly mention Allardyce and Hodgson, you're having a giraffe if you think they could do more than Souness ever did here. (or Evans, Houllier or Rafa himself) I'm even sincerely sceptical about the leprechaun, his obsession with buying English and sometimes their football is awful to watch/endure.

But back on the topic of serious contenders, there is no reason we couldn't get a top manager bar those employed by clubs as big or riding higher than our's is at the moment ie fergie and managers at big clubs. But why shop at the bargain basement? I can't see Cappello coming here while in charge of England, if he has what it takes to win the Premiership which even given his DECENT results with England (let's not get carried away with a relatively easy group, he's still yet to convince away from home bar Croatia but that's a different debate) and Hiddink seems to be over-hyped for whatever reason. Would Josie come here? Would Josie cope with the same budget as Rafa or would he simply blame everything but himself like Rafa does? At least with Wenger we could expect a team playing good football, near the top and performing to its capabilities which is exactly what Rafa does not deliver - sometimes maybe one of the three, but not all three at the same time. Wenger has worked miracles, not the easiest bloke to like, but anyone not recognising what he's done at Arsenal should probably go follow baseball or tiddlywinks

And yes, I can finally agree with Ozwat, that Arsene would be someone who could make something out of nothing but please, there is just no way Arsene would leave Arsenal for us ever!

That is why I haven't even mentioned him cause he isn't even an option.

And I do not love Allerdyce but he did take Bolton from relegation fodder to the uefa cup as did Hodgson and they are both PL proven. And they wouldn't break the bank.

Besides Wenger there isn't a top manager that hasn't spend a load of money to succeed so why go out and get one for 5 million/year and then give them 0 transfer kitty and expect the results to come...?

Lippi or Blanc for me
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

i'm going to get shot down (again) for saying this, but i think McLeish would fit the bill. He's done wonders at Birmingham and understands the British game totally.

Along the lines of 7_kewell... my personal choice isnt very popular either.

I would take Martin O'Neill in a heartbeat. He's done wonders with Villa, worked with very little budget... extremely good man manager, can motivate the players, can work on an average side and get them playing well. Has signed warnock, Dunne, Young, Milner - all british players who would get into our squad if not our team. Knows the league. to be honest i dont care about european pedigree aat the moment... hell we might not even be in europe next season!
