Kuyt had those shots on target so didnt miss sitters .If pepe had made those saves would we off been saying what great saves they were

Without Heskey,Owen by his own admission would not have scored as many goals! I am a Dirk Kuyt fan and I am proud to admit it! His work rate is fantastic and without his goals in the CL we would have had serious problems. Pennant isn't fit to clean Kuyt's boots - by comparison he doesn't create a lot,he doesn't score goals except the classic against Chelsea and his work rate isn't in the same league. Torres had a relatively poor goal scoring record at AM and just maybe that was because he didn't have players like Kuyt who will work selflessly all day long. His charitable work makes him a credit to his often justifiably criticised profession. Never whinges, never lazy, he just get's on with it. I just wish we had more with his attitude. Poor start to this season but then again who in the team has set the world on fire? After suffering the tragic loss of his Dad in 2007 after a long and distressing illness I am not surprised that at times his mind has appeared to be on other things. I think there is a lot to come from Kuyty and I for one have not given up on him!

Drop the signature Peewee - not clever and makes you sound more like a Bluenose!! He scored 83 goals in 122 games for Feyenoord and was Dutch player of the year in 2005/6 - HARDLY CACK!

I know he's got his limitations but I thought he had one of his better games on Saturday which is hardly surprising considering he actually played in his best position.

Compared to Berbatov, for example, who has 20 times the skill but only played for 10 minutes, I think Dirk was more valuable to us on the day.

Interesting discussion, but just answer one question, in a straight choice between Nani and Kuyt who do you buy? Me I choose Nani because when he gets the ball defenders run backwards or simply foul him, same goes for Walcott, Ashley Young, Joe cole, Robinho, Lennon, Wright-Phillips.

Also these guys would help with Alonso's passing range so we could play more expansively, see Carrick last season with fast players to pass to.

PS: Another point he cost us £9m as a striker, the same summer Spurs bought Berbatov for £10.9m and they were on similar annual salaries.

nani has done nothing yet in the prem also two different ype of players .

yes berbatov cost a bit more yet first season kuyt scored the same amount of league goals as berbatov did in first season .

Well in answer to your first question, as wide midfielders between Kuyt and Nani there is absolutely no comparison in my opinion, I think the Manchester United man is a much better player. Now I can see there are a couple of people in particular lurking around the boards as as I type who will rear up at that. I'll probably cop a couple of insults off them, but not to worry it is my considered opinion as a cocktail barman and a revolutionary.

As for the second point about Berbatov and Kuyt being a similar fee as strikers, that would be because Berbatov was a shrewder buy.

All that said, the fact that even detractors such as me are the first to admit that Kuyt is currently our best bet as a right midfielder if we aren't going to play the captain there says a lot about his determination, professionalism and application. He's made himself into a fixture in the team on merit, and for that he deserves all the credit in the World.

I think you got it spot on about ability wide in regards nani and kuyt but as yet has nani actually proven any of it bar a few fleating instances ? Yeah as a wide midfielder nani is better (potentially)

As for berbatov i remember watching him for Bayer and the guy was toilet more often than not and an engima who seemed to sulk when all the big players got sold off and no one bought him .

Some might, I wouldn't. When Pepe made that save on Tuncay the other week my reaction was 'thank f.uck the Turk sh.ite that one...Pepe's bailed Carra out of jail there.' Ask yourself this: would Kuyt be disappointed with those efforts (particularly the second one)? If he would be--and I'm sure he was--there's nothing wrong with some of us being disappointed either.

yeah but to say he missed sitters is a bit too far - he had good chances and got them on target only for the keepr to make good saves so it wasnt like he was missing sitters like say keane has .

Alright, mate, I can go with that. Agreed that Keane is getting a much easier ride than Dirk at the moment from supporters. It's the classic honeymoon period and the fact that most of us don't want a 20 million pound signing to flop. Both did lots of good things on Saturday but their finishing was suspect at best.

Fair points, but I would rather have Dirk in my team than Nani.
