Well Kuyt has dropped out of favour, fans getting what they want. However Crouch has hardly been on fire

Crouch - 4 goals in 973 mins (goal every 243 mins)
Voronin - 4 goals in 1023 mins (goal every 256 mins)
Kuyt - 6 goals in 1037 mins (goal every 173 mins)

Kuyt has scored 10 goals in his last 25 appearances, Crouch's last 10 goals took 35 appearances and Voronin hasn't got 10 yet. Torres has 10 in his last 14 appearances so is way ahead of the rest while Gerrard has 10 in 21 appearances this season including 9 in his last 10 games. Apparently Gerrard needs resting despite this being his EIGHTEENTH consecutive game and I believe he's only missed games when he was injured.

And any mod in this thread, ideally Supersub - why close a perfectly decent thread because of squabbling? (halfway thread) Give the children a 24 hour ban and delete the offending posts, don't let the losers ruin it for others

Totally agree with cool hand on this one.

He has been given more than enoughtime to come good. He looks slow, misplaces passes, doesnt even want to shoot and likes to play the ball backwards. I dont understand how this guy is still getting a chance.

He needs to slim down.

I think he needs more than that....like talent, pace and an eye for goal.:)

yes he has added a few pounds this season, he is so much slower and can't make sharp turns.

I like Kuyt, but not as a striker for our team.

Hes too slow, he plays far too deep, doesnt seem to be able to finish any more, he doesnt get past the players, doesnt have a leathal strike on him and doesnt make the perfect runs in a movement. Sorry, but Kuyt just doesnt do it for me

I'm not his biggest fan but I thought he played quite well today. My only gripe is that header near the end which he should really have scored with.

Has it ever occured to you that Kuyt might've been instructed by Rafa to play that deep, just like what Rafa used to do with Morientes as well as with Crouch?

He didn't give the ball away as much as he has been recently, and he held the ball up well.  But for me he still never looked like scoring, even with the header at the end, everything he does lacks conviction at the moment.

I'll go as far as to say we are carrying him these days when he plays, as he offers absolutely nothing as an attacking threat.

I think the subtitle for this thread is wrong. I think it should say "time for some flogging".

I honestly don't know why Rafa keeps playing kuyt in such a deep position.  In order to play in that position you need to be fast, have good touch and you need to be very creative.  Kuyt does not posses any of those qualities.  I just can't figure out why he plays strikers out of position.  He does this with Voronin and Crouch too, it's so frustrating to watch.

We need a whole other type of player than Kuyt/another striker, if we want to play with our second "striker" this way. We need a type like Diego from Bremen/Aimar when he was good etc.

Sure Rafa likes one of his strikers too play a deeper role, that's why he always goes on about playing "in between the lines" but as far as i can see Kuyt is playing pretty much his natural game. No player can play under orders for two full seasons without reverting back to their natural game at various stages. Put Harry Kewell out on the right wing for a season (let's assume he stays fit!) and tell him to hug that touch-line and you can guarantee he will drify inside during every game, same goes for Gerrard when he's asked to play right-mid. If Kuyt was this fox in the box, goal-scoring, ball attacking centre-forward we kinda hoped we were getting then i'm sure we would have seen some of that by now. To be honest i don't think he looks particularly comfortable (at least not in the epl) playing higher up the pitch. He doesn't have the wheels to play on the shoulder and offer a threat in behind (and he knows it) and you don't often see him sit just in front of the last man with his back to goal offering feet like a Peter Crouch does.

As far as i can tell, what you see is what you get with Kuyt. A footballer with a tremendous attitude, a fantastic work ethic, unbelievable stamina BUt unfortunately for us, fairly limited football ability and physical attributes.
