out for 4 weeks with 2 broken ribs (sigh). how can you break 2 ribs by merely slipping on the pitch? this means he'll miss the derby and united games. :(

And suddenly we look short at centre back! the football gods are already quewing up to vomit down our shirts!

Thank god we bought Coates! We will have to look at some of the younger lads until Sk returns from suspension!

we seem to say it every season... maybe this year he'll stay fit for more than 5 games in a row.... NOPE!!

Our best CB can't stay fit. We really need a top class CB to be the mainstay of our defence. Coates may be a replacement for Carra, but Skrtel isn't good enough to be a first choice CB and Kelly is our back up RB, not to mention injured at the mo.

Now we've got our left hand side sorted, this is imo our number one priority.

But gone are the days where we can pay a squad player 40k a week or so. Chelsea and city have spoiled the market. And I'm pretty sure Rooney earns higher than Gerrard. Probably even spurs players may earn higher than hours. We have to stay competitive...

my opinion is that you have to an extent pay decent wages and transfer fees for quality.
we spent big on players from smaller clubs and id say the reason we did was because neither of them earned big at their previous clubs and probably got a payrise from us but i doubt any of our new signings with the exception of suarez are earning above 50k a week.
they have potential to be good players and if they do im sure their salaries will increase.
look at spurs and modric?.that guy earns a pittance for the type of player he is.he signed a new contract at spurs  last jan for 45k a week which levi claimed he was delighted to sign.chelsea were willing to pay him more so he wanted out and now twitchy face is calling for him to be given a rise to try and keep him.
rooney apparently earns 250k a week which is riduculous and they shot themselves in the foot with the contract they gave him.they were unable to sign schneider because of it.
in fact what these players earn a week is a kick in the teeth to ordinary tax payers but when you consider the money the clubs make off them its only fair they get a percentage.
manure, city and chelsea pay big wages to big players and thats why they are where they are and when we were paying high to even squad players we were up there too.
we are a big club with massive earning potential and fsg dont want to pay the wages.simple.they would rather pay pittance on young players hoping they pay off in the long run.
we never tried to sign any world class players at all or even put bids in for them because we wont pay the wages.
cl football doesnt really matter and neither does history when it comes to players signing for clubs, its all about whether the player thinks the club will go anywhere and how much they are willing to pay them over the rest.
city are testament to that.
fsg are investing in the long term and gambling on whether a players stock will rise over the term of his contract.

shame agger is out as he has been fantastic for us this season and was only getting better.
the guy is out not because he's made of glass but the fact is that he more than likely got clattered in the ribs.you dont break ribs by stretching.
he will be missed but we should be thankful we have coates as back up.

could be out for longer than 4 weeks if we believe Agger's agent:

Agger's agent, Per Steffensen, confirmed today that the setback will see the 26-year-old, who has endured a string of injuries during his time at Anfield, out of action for up to a month.

"It's the worst possible news," Steffensen told sportentv2.dk.

"He has broken two ribs, and he must keep still for four weeks."

Reports are that he will be able to start training in 4 weeks, back in 6 / 7 weeks!

I seriously hope we bring in Cahill in the transfer window, Carra is on his last legs, Skrtel isn't good enough and Agger keeps getting injured.

Coates will hopefully be able to take the reigns from Carra.  Cahill will be available for a bargain price.

A shame hes injured but its something that we should be prepared to handle. Agger for me isnt that much better a defender than Skrtel and it remains to be seen whether hes better than Coates. Certainly not better than Carragher for me. Obviously in the absence of Skrtel through suspension we'll see a Coates-Carra partnership so hopefully that works out well.

We're a top CB short unless Coates proves to be a dominant force.

What about Danny Wilson?

He's one of those players that unless he's not 100% wont play, we need to replace him as good as he is we need some more reliable

Out for a month with a cracked rib, only a few games in.

Do we take a risk with Skrtel or throw Coates into the meat grinder. I'll go with Coates, he did ok against Spurs 9 men & all, give him a go.
