A bit contraversel - but did we miss Kuyt more than we thought we would yesterday ?

His energy his passion his commitment , closing down are all things that were missing yesterday

Nothing controversial about it mate. Maxi was that bad we missed El Hadji Diouff, never mind Derek Kuyt.

Any idea when he is going to be back playing ? The games he has missed have highlighted his importance to the team .

:)    some good news at last...

Reds get Kuyt boost

Liverpool have been handed an injury boost with the news Dirk Kuyt is on course to return sooner than expected from a shoulder injury.

The Dutch international has been out of action for two weeks after sustaining the problem on international duty.

It was feared the versatile forward faced a lengthy spell on the sidelines, but Kuyt is back in training and could be back in contention for this weekend's clash with Sunderland or alternatively, feature in next week's Europa League trip to his former club Utrecht.

"Dirk has trained the last couple of days," said Hodgson.

"We're trying to protect him a little bit but he's made a remarkable recovery, so it'll be interesting to see how he progresses on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in relation to Saturday's game and the game next Thursday.

Say what you like about Kuyt (and I have in the past) but the bit in bold is hardly a surprise to anybody surely. Whatever anyone thinks about his ability, from an attitude point of view he has few if any peers.

And also, something we often fail to consider, his injury record is second to none.

Owzat would be freaking out at the Kuytie love-in if he was about!  :D

Despite his "lack of class" and inability to trap a "bag of cement" , anyone that lived through our world domitation back in the day will remember that at least half the team was made up of "wolverines"

Something that perhaps more than anything is sadly missing now.

I'm going to go a bit out there here, but given Torres's injuries I'd even have a look at possibly re-inventing Dirk as a support striker/main striker if you rest Torres. Torres is nowhere near the player he uslaly is at the moment, and he really needs someone to do his donkey work. If you need someone to do donkey work, well...anyway I think Dirk could possibly do the Gerrard role, Stevie could play central mid alongside Mereiles and Johnson could play on the right. Carra could play right back, get the Greek in the centre and bingo.

Having Kuyt back will bring out the best in Johnson - it allows him to move forward more knowing that he has the back up in Kuyt . Kuyt amazing ability to get up and down the pitch is something we have sorely missed - he can help up both in attack and defence and chip in with much needed goals . I would even advocate dropping carra at the moment and bringing in the greek instead .

                             Pepe

Johnson         Carra/Greek       Agger         Konchesky

                    Meireles           Gerrard

Kuyt                           Cole                    Jovanovic

                               Torres

If we can get them all out playing more often then i think we will see a massive improvement.

Lets face it , when we signed Dirk he was the top scorer in Holland (?). I think many of us were expecting we'd snapped up a new Van Nistlerooy.

Never quite understood how and why he ended up as our first choice RM  :p

For a player who receives a lot of stick, the best time to get injured is when the team is playing :censored:, and then when he's fit again, he's welcomed back with open arms, and appreciated much more. Get back soon, Dirk.
