It still amazes me how some people can consider Kuyt as a great player. He's clearly not. His only input is his fantastic energy levels, but other than that, he remains an incredibly average footballer. He has the touch of a brick wall, the shot of a damp rich tea biscuit, the control of a jelly and the passing ability of Timmy from South Park. Far too often, Liverpool's attack simply falls apart when he's on the ball. Plus his speed and acceleration isn't that hot either.

Despite his unquestioned commitment and level of energy, his end product has been and still is terrible. He was awful as a striker and he was only "moulded" into a "wide man" due to an extreme poverty of choice. He still clearly no winger, that's for sure.

A decent squad member, yes. but a "great" player? I think that's stretching it a bit.

You're spot on there!

He's a great guy and most LFC supporters hold him in high regard but he's a squad player at best.  If we have any ambitions as a club players like Kuyt and Lucas should not be in our starting 11, but we haven't much option at the moment.

I don't expect either to feature quite as much in the seasons ahead as we should be adding a few quality players to the team to take their place.

Nobody is saying he's a great player but as it stands he's the best option we have to plough that loan furrow upfront. I thought he was a MOM contender against Stoke, was instrumental in the goal against Chelsea and also played well in the first half on Saturday. He did tire visibly in the second half though but he wasn't the only one. The team was nearly running on empty.

yeah, people seem to be forgetting that we've already played 8 games under Kenny in the 5 or 6 weeks he has been here as well as the international break.

Kuyt is a good player although not a great one.  But there is a reason why Rafa, Roy, Kenny and the Dutch managers all pick him.

squad player at best imo.
good man to bring on the odd game to tighten up the play but doesent deserve to be one of the first names on the sheet every week.
the guy really is a top bloke,a great professional who gives it all in every min he's on the field but that isnt good enough alone.he's terrible at the basic stuff,no pace, can't beat players, can't cross, cant pass and isn't clinical enough to be a striker at this level.what you get from dirk is what you see and his best days are well behind him.

Has never been a player who gets away with as much :censored: as him ever.

He can be absolutely :censored: for 20 games but then have 2 great games and all off a sudden all is forgotten and everyone loves him.

And noone is better than deflecting the attention away from himself when he isn't performing going out in the media praising insert(the Fans, the club, Gerrard, Carra) anything that makes his stock rise.

Only one season did he perform more well in more then 50% of the games. Bought in for lots of money as a striker and was just to poor as one scoring 1 from 23 from open play before he was moved to the right. Just abysmal last season and atrocious for most of this season and still a favourite nailed on for a starting role week in week out.

Not good enough to be in the starting 11, would have him as a back up striker if needed, but even that wouldnt be my first choice. Truth is hes past it like so many players we have now, great bloke but that doesnt warrant a place in the Liverpool team. Should ship him out come the summer maybe give him back to Feyenoord with a bit of cash and get that Dzsudsak.

If you stick our Dirk in a team surronded by quality, his workrate lets the better players shine, what we have at the moment is his no thrills game being surrounded by other players who arnt bringing enough to the table, and in my eyes this is when his limitations stand out. Back when we had Gerrard, Alonso, Mash and he who shall not be named all in the starting 11 and on song his tireless work rate opened up space for others, led to counter attacking opportunities and had him popping up with a number of goals and assists

I totally agree on that. In a team filled with quality where we are dominating games and other player creating chances, Kuyt thrives because he doesn't have to be involved much in the buildup play and use his strenght to get on the end of rebounds
and win 2nd balls.

But he isn't a player that can create much on his own and should never be in the starting 11 when we are expected to dominate vs a team that park the bus. Just extremely ineffective.

Much better in tough games where opponent will have lots of possesion and also useful as a sub in games when we want to protect a lead.

So a useful squad player starting 30-40% of the games at most but the situation now is just ridiculous. A surefire starter no matter if he has 10 awful games on the trott and everyone is just lapping it up...

Not to mention he is extremly overpaid as to what he contributes.

Dirk: My iPod has inspired us
21st Feb 2011 - Latest News

Dirk Kuyt has revealed that Kenny isn't the only King that has inspired Liverpool's impressive upturn in fortunes.

The Holland international was recently installed as the Reds' new dressing room DJ and he remains convinced that our seven match unbeaten run owes much to his choice in music.

"Ever since I've plugged my iPod into our music system and play the stuff I've collected at home for our games, we've not lost a game. I think we are all a bit superstitious as players," said Kuyt.

"I took over from one of the lads and when they all like it, they let you be in charge. It is like taking a penalty. If you score, they all let you take the next one.'

"What do I play that gets the lads going? Kings of Leon, The Killers and Amy Winehouse. That sort of stuff.

"Then, after the warming up, I let the physio take over with his iPod for one song.

"When we come back in the dressing room he has put 'You'll never walk alone' on. That gets us all together. We feel so united when we hear that."

I ever a game summed up Dirk for me it was last night. Did some really good things and really poor things in equal measure. We all know that technically he isn't the best but I thought his work rate as per usual was nothing short of phenomenal.

Once again pops up with a vital goal as he has done so often aswell. Almost a carbon copy of his winner against the bitters and his goal against Benfica last season although why they had nobody on the post is anyone's guess.

i thought it was a typical dirk performance last night as well.
no where near good enough.
your right in saying technically he isnt the best, but he is one of the worst.some of his passing and crossing last night was abismal and yeah he popped up for the goal but his overall performance over the two legs was terrible and yet he still comes away with complete adoration just because he puts in a shift.
a bit part role is all his displays deserve as he wont compete with carroll or suarez up front and offers nothing from the wings.because we are limited this season he plays and i think next season with new signings he will rarely make it off the bench and just feature in the early rounds of cup competitions and the like.
imo if any kind of offer came in for him we should take their hand off and use the fee to fund someone decent.
