I see here and there that "Plessis is too young to perform". I guess you didn't see our midfield yesterday, check the post of my fellow standardman here to see the age of our team...

Before you get me wrong : Liverpool is a better team than Standard. It's normal considering your budget is much bigger than ours. But that didn't prevent your great Rafa to be overwhelmed tactically yesterday.

Given that it's one of the biggest and most important matches in Liège's history, we could've expected to encounter a well organised, highly charged opposition full of confidence having won their league after 25 years without it. We just weren't at the races and it'd difficult to explain why sometimes - however much we've spent in comparison to Liège. Suffice to say, if Gerrard was fit and able to start, and if Mascherano was available I think it would've been a very different match. However, we should have had more than enough in the squad to cope without these two, against a team that, albeit are champions in Belgium, are nowhere near any of the top teams in Europe.

It's a wake-up call for us before the start of the season.

Oh, you know it's back again when the :censored: slinging starts and fan's of minnows come in to talk their :censored:.

Thank God.

Edit - note to mods: any chance of toning down the language filter? I mean, come on - it's a football forum and I can't be f'cked having to alter certain words every time I want to make myself clear. Lando would also appreciate it too. Ta.  :D

Some porn links should accompany every match thread header as I feel that clicking on such links would ease a lot of tension. That is all.:D

Dutch striker Dirk Kuyt spoke for an embarrassed Liverpool squad by vowing that they will not play as badly again in Europe.

Kuyt said: 'It was a bad performance. We tried to do our best and it was not good enough.

'The forwards just did not have enough of the ball, and our man of the match was Pepe Reina, that says everything about us.

'We will need a big improvement at Anfield. We know we did not play our best game against Liege, we know that as a team.'

A small, mainly silent Liverpool following high in the rafters of Liege's intimidating stadium watched in horror as the five-times European champions were battered from start to finish.

Kuyt said: 'We struggled. We could not pass the ball to our team-mates anywhere near enough.

'It was a difficult night and difficult to know what really went wrong. But the good thing was a clean sheet and that will give us the edge in a fortnight for the second leg.

'We know it was not our best game. But we want to step things up and we know there is quality in the team, we have shown that in pre-season and now we must show it in competitive matches too.

'We have some big games coming up. One of those is on Saturday at Sunderland. So we must not play like this again.

'Now we are looking forward to Saturday and the first league game at Sunderland to show who we are and what we are.

'As for the Champions League, fortunately we are still in the tie, but we definitely have to show better form than we showed in Liege. We need to score, we have to play better and we will.'

We gifted your team a goal opportunity from about two inches from the goal line and your guys still couldn't score.

Then you got a BS penalty, and STILL couldn't score.

OK we didnt score, with our goal oppurtunities, buth look it at the other side little boy... we had at least 5 changes,... AND how many LIVERPOOL? :;):

And again: the fact is that loosing from liverpool is not so bad for Standard, its NORMAL

0-0 at standard is a humiliating for liverpool... and winning in anfield is just normal for liverpool.

face it

i understand that you can't see it buth no worry, when ur older you'll understand it

Do it. Belgium wants to meet the real Liverpool. The real 12th man.

Yesterday was simply a joke
80M but they need a wake-up call? 50 players with a value  200M but you need Gerrard, Babel and Masscherano to beat a bunch of kids?

what about all the excuses. Fellaini was in China last week but had no problem with the liverpool midfielders. But you  are complaining that it's only their first game. Plessis is only 20 and that's an excuse? so what. 5 players of standard are even younger.
what are we talking about?

and what about the kop? I didn't hear them yesterday. First time they drunk real beer or what :)

This is how I know them

For christ sake
UNLEASH HELL AT ANFIELD. these belgian kids deserve it.

Yet everything I said about yesterday's game was entirely true.

OK we didnt score, with our goal oppurtunities, buth look it at the other side little boy... we had at least 5 changes,... AND how many LIVERPOOL?

So you won the game 5-0 on chances?

Is this a new rule that's been introduced over the summer?

And again: the fact is that loosing from liverpool is not so bad for Standard, its NORMAL

As it will be at Anfield.

0-0 at standard is a humiliating for liverpool... and winning in anfield is just normal for liverpool.

0-0 to Liege isn't humiliating. It's motivating to finish off the tie at home.

the millions of liverpool against the real life soccer of standard,
face it

Face what?

You couldn't score from the penalty spot.

You couldn't even score from the Liverpool goal-line.

i understand that you can't see it buth no worry, when ur older you'll understand it

When I'm older, I won't use "ur" instead of your.

Right, I've just logged into this thread to find the usual suspects reigniting old flame wars.  This is on top of some objectionable comments about Belgians that surfaced last night and which are still bubbling under the surface today.  So, let me take this opportunity remind everyone of the forum rules regarding this kind of thing:

"Threads which degenerate into long drawn out abusive slanging matches between members will ultimately be closed.  Members have the right to express their opinions without fear of being bashed or flamed.  They also have the right to offer good firm opinions and to debate strongly.  If you do feel the need to spoil discussions with insults and personal arguments, do it by PM or whichever way you wish to settle it, but KEEP IT OFF THE FORUM.  Consistent and frequent abusive conduct towards other members is not allowed and members guilty of continuous abusive conduct will be warned by the moderators.  Baiting other members to start arguments with you will not be tolerated and persistence with this will result in a posting suspension or a total ban.  Please don't waste your time writing obscene or abusive posts as the forum is moderated and such posts will be deleted or at best edited to ensure the universal appeal of the forums content."

LINK TO FULL FORUM RULES

Now, I'm not especially interested in dishing cards to anyone at this early stage of the season.  Instead, in accordance with the rules, I've been deleting or editing the most offensive posts.  But I'm not going to do that forever.  I hope this general warning will suffice and that everyone just takes a deep breath.  It's going to be a long, long season, folks, if old enemies insist on going for each other's throats from the off and others insist on having an almighty pop at 'Johnny foreigner' every time we have a European match and a few kids turn up to take the mickey.  Let's swerve all that and show that we still have the best supporters in the world.

Walk On.
