I think it would be unfair to appoint Kenny in a full time role. As if it isn't bad enough not having anything to spend but we will have probably lost the bulk of our key players. What is he meant to acheive with that sort of squad?

I'm amazed that anyone thinks that the timing of Rafa's sacking, Yozzi's departure etc etc has all been by chance. Even people still thinking that the Yanks have any real imput into the clubs direction.
The WC has given a break between Rafa's reign and our future. The yanks won't be there much longer and I cannot believe that the next manager has not been picked already, whoever he is.

There must have been lessons learnt from this whole fiasco and I feel optimistic about next season. We will end up a leaner, more realistic outfit and with the right manager we've got more than an even chance of chasing the title.

The distraction of G&H's presence is clouding too many judgements.

Just keep the faith. There was life before Rafa and there will be life after. He was just another chapter in our history. The next one starts soon.

I like this post, full of positivity and optimism amongst the swill of negativity, fair play. These rumours have been bandied about lately, how this is all carefully co-ordinated, the new managers picked, a deal done with new owners etc. I honestly can't see it myself but I'd love it if it were true. Who knows....

Whoever the new manager is it is a fact that he will

1) practically have no money at all
2) not have the freedom to critisize the owners

Yoshi and Masch practically oout of the door already and I'll eat my hat if the money recopued will be spent on replacements.

The reason a new manger hasn't been picked yet?

1) Saves money hiring one later
2) The current regime can decide on transfer policy without interference from a manager.

You are one of thoser anti Rafa(anti any manger not challenging) believing that the manager is basically the major reason why you win or loose.

Where have you been living these past 20 years? Under a rock?
Money rules and just be not having you head in the ground you will se only teams speding most in wages and transfers win titles nowadays.
A team 350 million in debt losing £110,000/day, no transfer spent in 3 years and owners asking for 800 million and you are talking about it as a minor distraction and if we dig deep a title challenge is just around the corner.

We will get a mid table manager because the way we are going we are going to be a mid table team - woy step up to the plate and guide us safely to 13th and let's see who attacks him first

F all this negativity, yes we are in the but dawn always comes after the darkest hour. Have patience and believe. The will have to sell up sooner rather than later and nothing will be sorted till after that. Anyhting done now will only be an interim one, Have faith.

We where pretty much a mid table team under a so called world class manager last season and mid table at Liverpool means you lose your job. Thats why he left the football club. Theres absolutely no point looking at the worse case scenario and rattling on about end of days and catastrophe for the club. Right now we have one player, Benayoun, seriously linked with a move and are in the process of recruting a new manager. Thats the size of the on field stuff and frankly at this point its not that bad at all.

Well it also seems masher is on his way as well and add gerrard maybe looking to go to Madrid the picture is pretty gloomy - under the world class manager we had we became the number one ranked team in Europe and beat every single top team in Europe and feared all round the continent . Yes we had a very poor season but that didn't mean we were a mid table team - but we will be soon . As for looking to install a new manager well you have to excuse me if I don't get too excited by the main name in the frame who IMO is a mid table manager and will certainly not march us onto trophies and definatly not the title as someone has mentioned

Look, the roof may cave in on us but lets not hit the panic button just yet. These lads may move on and leave us with a feckin big job on but then again they may not. All Im saying is theres no need to lose sleep on it, we have Gerrard, Torres and Mash rumour every single summer so its nothing new because they are our best players. Kick back, enjoy the world cup and lets see how it pans out when these boys get back home which in Gerrards case may not be too long the way its going!

Rafa Benitez threw his weight behind Kenny Dalglish's bid to become Liverpool manager and hailed him as the perfect fit to revive their fortunes.

Inter Milan's new coach made his first appearance before the Italian media, but still found time to address his departure from Anfield and the subject of who should replace him.

Despite Roy Hodgson remaining Liverpool's preferred choice, Benitez insisted Dalglish was best qualified to appease disgruntled fans and ease some of the pressure on owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.


Reflecting on the way Dalglish has been revered by Liverpool followers ever since his arrival from Celtic in 1977, the former Liverpool manager said: 'I think they should look at Kenny Dalglish. He is the best man for the job. The owners should listen to the fans because they are unhappy.

'No one knows the club better than Dalglish, and he would be perfect there. He wants the job and in my opinion he should get it.'

Benitez was axed earlier this month amid claims that several senior players had lost faith in him during a calamitous season in which Liverpool would have missed out on Europe altogether, but for Portsmouth's financial predicament.

He strongly denied losing the dressing room, though, and revealed that he made a point of sending birthday wishes to Steven Gerrard when the Liverpool skipper was 30 at the end of last month.

'Before I left, I spoke with 95 per cent of the Liverpool players, and I contacted Steven Gerrard on his birthday,' he added.

'The majority said, "Thank you for everything". I spoke with Gerrard, and he was fine. In fact, he wished me well. I left on a positive note and the relationship with the players was good.

'It was hard for me to leave Liverpool. It was really difficult and I was sad to go. It was not easy, because the fans on the Kop were always fantastic to me. All the fans were like that. It was a sad day when I left, but I had to do it.

'My youngest daughter grew up in Liverpool. I was there for six years and she is only seven, so we will be looking at English schools. Both the girls were very attached to Liverpool - neither of them supports Everton.'

Benitez, who signed a two-year contract worth more than £4million a year, was frequently at odds with his predecessor Jose Mourinho, when they were rivals in the Barclays Premier League.

He hinted he may seek his advice, though, once he has assessed his squad and the former Chelsea boss has settled in at Real Madrid.

'I haven't spoken with Mourinho, because I have been very busy and so has he,' he said.

'Maybe I will talk with him in a few weeks when we are not so busy.

'I am not an anti-Mourinho, and I believe he did a good job here. We are different, but I like to win and I like to play good football, so I don't think we are all that different. I am not going to change anything, because that would not be very clever.'

But that will not come until we have new owners, simple as.

To talk about league title these next few years is madness and I'll really question your sense of reality if you have that mindset.

I could go on about even more negative facts but many just don't want to listen so why bother.

We are so **** compared to all of the top 5 teams that a top 4 position would be a MAJOR achievment the way things are shaping up.

I do beleive this can't go on forever and a new owner will come but where will our poor club be then?

Take away Torres, Gerrard, Masch and we are West Ham material, plain and simple.

simple they are waiting on woy to return from the world cup before announcing anything.
if they really believed kenny was the man for the job they would have given it to him already.
woys camp have been very quiet during all this buisness and haven't confirmed or denied whether he is interested.
hopefully woy will stay where he is after kenny announced his intentions.
he has to know kenny is the fans choice and might not want it purely for that reason!!
