My point is untill we get new owners we arent going to win the title, we need stability untill then.

It looks like we have no money to spend. However we are still Liverpool - and yes we might not be able to get someone like Van Gaal because he would be leaving a well run club and starting with an unstable one however I do feel we still have the pulling power to get someone like Lippi or Hitzfeld .... to even have roy hod being linked to us is a joke . But it does run with Sky and the media's agenda to batter us in every possible way. The list of candidates drawn up by the bookmakers and media will look alot different to those drawn up by kenny daglish and christian purslow .  Because both of these men really do know whats going out at the club and more importantly they realise the greatness of liverpool- I suppose I think we all need to calm down and trust daglish to find us the right man - no stop gaps.

My choice would be Hitzfeld. Approach him now- The Swiss wont go far - he is a winner at club level .
I've always liked how he  and his teams carry themselves. Finally I think he might bring in some Northern European boys with flair and steel ; the Germans and Dutch of this world. Call me optimistic but I've no doubt we will be back up there next year- granted why might not win the league although utd and arsenal are arguably the weakest they;ve been for many years- but I think FA Cup and Europa league are attainable.

Time to think positively- new slate for everyone at the club

I think Kenny would much sooner go down the mon or hodgson route than the likes of lippi.
I`m willing to bet those two name are at the top of his list but we`ll just have to see.

Rush job  i think we have a team which if stayed relatively injury free could win a title next year.

What we need is a very savvy manager that can convince the joe coles / michael ballacks and the various other out of contract players to sign for free this summer !

The best realistic manager we could get right now would be Guus Hiddink. This is a bloke who last year inspired confidence back into the chelsea team that were completely drained. Frank Rijkaard would be a nice option too.

I just hope to god we dont get Martin O'neill :;):

Fair enough mate but imo we will be very lucky to keep hold of Gerrard AND Torres plus Masch is most probably on his way too, oh and Benayoun.
I dont hold with the opinion that a different manager could have won us the league last season so I dont think we could win it next, even if we do hold on to our players.
We should be aiming for top 4 and a cup and hope for the best. :)

I think everything points to Hodgson.

Van Gaal, Hiddink etc are not going to leave their positions for the shambolic set up that we can currently offer them. I think Martin O'Neill might fancy it but Randy Learner is not going to let him go anywhere.

Hodgson, though, would grab the chance with both hands. He has connections to the area.

Also, I can't quite recall (too many late nights, too much alcohol, too many fast women (I wish!!)) but somewhere in the deep dark corners of my mind I think Hodgson was heavily linked with us before. I think it was when Souness went. At the time it looked like a done deal. I seem to remember him stating in the press that he was very interested, claiming he had stood on the kop and had studied the Liverpool way. It obviously didn't happen at the time though.

So, I think he still has that particular itch that needs scratched. I'm undecided if it would be a good or bad thing. He's undoubtably a great coach but I think he might be too long in the tooth. And, would he command the respect of some of our senior players and ensure that they would stay??

Personally I'd love to see the passion of M O'Neill on the touchline. But look out for the dark horses of Rijkaard and Eriksson on the outside rails.

As long as kenny has something to do with it neither Rijkaard or Eriksson will get a look in, thank fk. IMO of course.
As if the club isnt a big enough circus as it is without fkin sven, he`s a sh!te manager anyway and lucky for us we couldnt afford him.
We need stability untill the club is sold, getting back into the top four is the aim.

Can't get over the absolute assumption by so many posters in here that if Rafa had stayed on that:

A/ all our top players would have stayed. Apparently it was a given they would have?

B/ He was gonna turn around a seemingly baffled dressing room that had lost all confidence in his and their own ability to perform at the highest level?

please stop posting as if these were facts.

Bottom line for me: If we had a normal ownership scenario (ie. not complete c....u....n...t...s) and it was purely down to footballing/transfer reasons. Rafa deserved to go. Simple as.

I'm nervous as fook he's gone because I don't trust the owners and the fire sale they may be planning but speaking PURELY from a football perspective. We needed a new manager.

Then someone should stop posting these as if they were facts:

A/ he had lost the dressing room

B/ Gerrard and Torres allegedly made an ultimatum that if Rafa stayed they go...

The only sprinkle of hope that us fans now have is that Kenny is in a capacity involved with finding and advising the board on the successor

Bang on the money Scott.

To a degree your right as well Magus, it's something we do all the time on here - trying to fill in the inevitable gaps in our knowledge about what really happpened, then passing off our assumptions as fact.

There's no disputing that things we're badly wrong at Anfield last year and that whatever happened the manager wasn't getting the best out of the team. They were performing below themselves at the start (beaten by Villa at home etc.), middle (beaten by Portsmouth and Reading etc.) and end of the season (rubbish like the draws with Fulham and Birmingham).

So the fundamental questions were - what would give the club the best chance of getting back on track next season? Could Rafa inspire and motivate this group of players to turn it around next year? What is best for us from here on in?

I have my opinion on those questions, others have theirs.

Lippi is still the man that interests me most. Wouldn't be dissapointed with MON or Hodgson though.
