I would agree with you on Lucas though, although at times he too was poor today. The thing is with Lucas, you just get little glimpses, little flashes of something. A bit of vision here, a nifty little sidestep there, a first time lay-off now and then which exudes quality. The thing which really caught my eye about him today (and there's always something with this little fecker  :D ) was the one where he almost got the header in from Gerrards set-piece (I can't remember whether it was a corner or a free-kick to tell the truth). He kind of ducked in behind his marker and then out, almost Fowler style and then really attacked it with gusto. Only a fantastic defensive header from Carsley prevented him scoring. For such a little fella it was a sight to see.

The feeling persists with him that there is a footballer within him trying to get out, and if it ever happens he'll be a very good one. Whether it will or not though, that's another thing but my feeling is positive towards him.

Babel, despite having some ability I'm not so sure about as time goes on TBPH.

Mick, there was another glimpse when Lucas had the ball and two everton players closed him down, he held the ball then cheekly passed it between them (in the second half that was), the lad has potential, he looks good and I hope he starts building some confidence and adjust to the premiership.

Yeah it's just flashes and dashes but there is definately something there. People often say "give him time, remember Pires" and all that nonsense but sometimes it's true. If a player shows something you don't mind giving them time.

For me Lucas has shown something on lots of occasions, so I think he deserves time, and by that I mean another season like this one at least before we expect him tobecome a regular. He may not make it, but he might very well too.

so true, he has it, but needs learn when to you use it and how to use it. Its a matter of adjustment IMO

the best way for players to develop is to play them its that simple, babel and lucas have alot of potential and will benifit from all the game time their getting this season.

utd and arsenal play their youngsters that show promise when they are 19 20 21 and realise that although they might be inconsistant and make the odd mistake they will develop into experienced confident players by time they are 21 22 23 aslong as the talent is there

i hope next season players like insua and nemeth play a similar role that lucas and babel have this season as they will both be 19/20 and have alot of talent, too much to waste in the reserves

i can't remember if this is true, but me brother told me that the reason Benitez gave for not playing Lucas as often as he could is because Lucas needs to adjust to the lenght of the grass in england. Laugh or cry I don't know.

I think he's got in him, but not in the role he's playing. He's to lightweight at the mo to play as a holding midfielder. He needs to be pushed further forward with two holding midfielders behind him or as a central midfielder in the 4-4-2 system. He's a bit like Garcia, flashes of brilliance and flashes of stupidity. Today he played a great through ball to Babel, over the top of Hibbert. I think he will be as good as Alonso has been for this club and that's some praise.

2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

again I must have been watching a different game, I thought Lucas was bloody useless and far too weak. I can't remember any specific examples but I actually wanted to see him subbed off in the first half I thought he was so bad. Babel also had a very bad game as did most of the team really but a win is a win.

All in all though I'm very happy as that win has pretty much guaranteed champions league football for next year.  :buttrock  :buttrock

erm yeah kuyt, couldnt hit a cows @rse with a banjo and his head is shaped like a 10 bob bit, the ball just hits it and comes off at all sorts of ridiculous angles    :D

the guy is garbage and should never pull on the shirt again, some of you talk about him playing out of position, well i am sure if he was good enough in his own position this might not happen.

give him away in the summer, his finishing today was atrocious, yes he works hard blah blah blah but normally practice makes perfect but not in this case

Couldn't have put it better myself.....

We can easily pick any fan from the kop and he will do the same job as kuyt (running your heart out)....pretty easily too.

And in some cases, he might get a shot or two on target.....

I admit...kuyt's workrate is unquestionable...But if we use that to gauge his performance on the right flank, then we are accepting mediocrity....

Yeah.......2nd half was a real bore.

Anyway we won......but hate to say it...but we don't have the players to excel in this 4-3-2-1 formation.

1)The bad -

Kuyt and Babel are an embarrassment on the wings. Babel might do a good job on the right  but on the left, the opposition players have found the way to neutralize him (ie...he always tries to bring the ball to his right foot).

As for Kuyt......no comments needed.

Alonso....if barcelona really wants to pay 15 million for him....i say just sell him. Lucas did exactly what alonso did.... and if alonso continues this way...it would be better to sell him.

2)The good  -

Riise has shown that he is our best left back....period. With him on the team, we defend way lot better on the set pieces (although we still look vulnerable in it). I don't care what others say, but riise is a better defender than auerlio. And thats more essential to a left back.

Gerrard - No comments needed...He is great as ever.

Skertel - Has proved that he is indeed a good purchase. He only had 2 bad games since he came here (his 1st match and against manure). Judge him next season...He will be a colossus like vidic for us.

Lucas - Neat player. But he doesn't look like a world beater i thought he would be (with all the hype about him winning player of the year in brazil)

Torres - No comments needed. 1 chance 1 goal.... Can't imagine what will we do if he is injured...

The ugly -
PHILIP NEVILLE.....................    .........  :p Loved it when he grabbed the windbreaker when he was subbed.....

 Oh did you watch this game ,or were you with your judy ,doing the the dirty deed again . Your opinion means nothing ." Oh i'm not watching us against the mancs  this weekend ,cos me judy won't let me. "

Your Opinion means sh1t to me too...IGOR  :Oo:

And get a life......

The Kuyt bashers are out in force again, just after we've won the derby eh?

We've won the derby FFS!, and Kuyt was by no means our worst player, if anything he was one of our better players. I don't expect that to be acknowledged because that's not what Kuyt bashers do, is it?

All this abuse and criticism towards him is unwarranted within the context of this thread. If you want to slate him for his performances over the course of the season do it the Kuyt thread, not the 'We've just won the f*cking derby' thread.

It's tedious otherwise.
