I have been one of Dickys biggest critics but up to now he has been one of the players of the tournament.
Outstanding!

Am i getting this wrong or doesnt he play on the right of a 3 in attack for Holland ?

They play 4-3-3 dont they with him in that position ?

Slightly more offensive than him being on the right of a 5 man midfield for us ?

I could be wrong but that's how i have always thought the dutch play.
And that's also why i think Babel (in the past) has looked better for Holland. As the left hand role he takes up isnt the same as left midfield with defensive responsibilites.
Its a left sided attacker in a 3 pronged attack.

Sadly the Kuyt bashers will find some way of criticising him and will no doubt pick up on everything bad he does, but ignore his contributions.

If he were a bowler in cricket, he'd be one who dropped one down legside too often and was hit for fours, maybe bowled the odd no ball that cost him a wicket, but he'd pick up 3-4 wickets a Test. His batting wouldn't be pretty, but he'd chip in with a few 10s and 20s, his fielding would cost the side a few runs in errors, but he'd still be one of the top 3-4 contributors.

Point being, if you look at the negatives all the time you could slate anyone in the side, bar maybe Reina, and make a case to sell. But in recent LFC games a lot of players lose possession, miss chances etc, but Kuyt gets in positions to score even from the wing that hardly anyone else does bar people who score more than him. He works hard and so does his fair share of work and puts in his fair share of goals, assists and non-assist contributions to goals, yet some will never give him any credit. To them he is a forward playing on the wing who hasn't enough pace or skill to beat the full-back and so pick on his every mistake/poor touch to make him out to be a terrible player.

He's not the best player in the side, he is far from the worst. I think woof said elsewhere that you need players like Kuyt in the side. All this nonsense about getting in a fancy dan, sprint boy, who can beat his defender is fanciful since most have no end product. More often than not they only get the extra yard and noone else is quick enough to get on the end of the cross, or the cross is poor. Kuyt began to cross exceptionally well at one point, a very good cross box diagonal from level the corner of the area, but again who gets in the box anyway?!? Lucas and Mascherano don't much, and when Lucas does you sometimes wonder why he bothers.

So glad he's having a good World Cup, perhaps it says all that really needs to be said about his colleagues in the Dutch and Liverpool teams respectively
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

I was being sarcastic.
He is not a winger, and as you rightly said is playing in a more forward role. The results are there for everyone to see. Lets hope Roys on to it...

Ah i see  :D

FWIW i agree and have said for about 2 years that we could have played the two of those either side of a main striker and swap them around. Then we would have seen better from both of them.

So Dirk and Ryan could end up with World Cup winners medals. That should boost their value a few quid. :D

Holland have been playing 4231, Brazil, Germany and Spain have too. For all the slating its been given on here over the last year it must be effective when 3 of the 4 semi-finalists at the World Cup have been using it.

If Spain qualify tomorrow at least one Liverpool player is guaranteed a World Cup winners medal! Who was the last Liverpool player to hold that accolade? Roger Hunt? Anyone more recent?

sorry to be picky, but it would be at least two; kuyt and babel, or torres and reina. and we should keep all of them imo.

great to see dirky doing so well and a nice assist for the 3rd dutch goal too.

think he has been one of the best dutch players of the tournament.
He is perfect in their team that has loads of technically better players.
And like for us he gets vital assits.
The cross tonight for Robbens goal was a cracker.

Made up for him.

Would Babel or Reina get a medal without kicking a ball?
